The transverse head of the adductor pollicis has been cut close to its origin from the shaft of the third metacarpal bone. The oblique head has been divided and dissected to show the course of branches from the deep ramus of the ulnar nerve.

Pine seed with embryo removed. The megagametophyte provides the nutrition for the embryo when it grows into a seedling as the seed germinates. I'm not sure what species it is, but probably some Chinese pine (commercially sold "pine nuts" from the grocery store).

The iRobot Create robot is very similar structurally to a Roomba. It uses the same framework as a Roomba but omits the vacuum parts (to give you more battery power for your own projects). It also improves on the Roomba from a robotics perspective, by having a swivel front caster and an optional back caster.

Of course, almost all Roomba accessories work with the iRobot Create. For instance, here I've plugged in a normal Roomba battery instead of the green AA battery holder the Create ships with.

This section cuts across the mid-portion of the fourth ventricle and the nodulus. The cerebellar nuclei are prominent and the beginnings of the brachium conjunctivum visible. The restiform bodies are extending upwards into the cerebellum and fibers of the juxtarestiform body are passing from the acoustic area toward the cerebellum.

Point out crop, gizzard, intestine, and ventral nerve chord.

Point out mantle, gills, foot, and labial palps.

My students don't have the opportunity to meet F2F, but they build a sense of community through live video conferencing sessions each week. Here is my biology class doing a hands-on frog dissection. There are three sites connected. I can view them on the right monitor. The feed that I am pushing is on the left hand monitor. We meet F2F every day, but I use an online LMS as a back channel for interaction with me and other class members.

On this cat, the liver and spleen are visible. The fatty tissue covering the internal organs is called the greater omentum. More cat dissection photos available at www.anatomycorner.com

i learned a lot on a crude level, but next time i'll have to do with a proper scalpel and microscope.

I spare you of all the rest of the photos, but hit me up if you are interested.

I've always liked the way letters are mixed in with drawings in old science and anatomy books--usually an 'a' or a 'b' with a line linking it to some detail in the illustration. This book (a 1903 zoology text) goes further on occasion, wrapping the drawing in labels. I just think it looks cool. I guess they didn't have room to identify everything in the caption.

Best part might be where it says "Love, dove, loved." Perhaps a valentine's card?
