Mica Herrin. 2015. Full title: Dissection of Myself; beautiful flaws

Scars. Broken nails. Facial hair. Crooked eyebrows. Stretch marks. Fizzy hair. Acne. Belly fat.

It was strangely beautiful for me to let my insecurities out like this, to purposefully capture the features that I feel are imperfect. I guess you can never really know how other people see you. But I know how I see myself. It makes me wonder if other people even see these features the way I do. Maybe the first step to being beautiful is realizing that you have flaws.

Other than stitching the images together, this is unedited and that makes me feel alright.

East Elementary School teachers and students watch as teacher John Malloy helps Gil Bane dissect a salmon shark on Monday afternoon, Oct. 8, 2012 in Kodiak. Dissection of the 440-pound female shark was a live science lesson for students at East and other students who arrived for the demonstration. (Nicole Klauss photo)

unravelling the delights of the Ambassadors treats. here we see the Rocher fully clothed, wrapped in an enticing golden coating. let's delve in and see what secrets it hides!

I ordered some Kysan DC Gear Motors to test on, and this is one of them taken apart and dissected. It looks like a pretty good motor with nice, metal gears. David Kavanaugh, Senior Entomologist at the California Academy of

Sciences, dissects the male specimen of new species of beetle that was obtained in the Trinity Alps by UC Berkeley doctoral candidate Sean Schoville. Dr. Kavanaugh is going to dissect out its aedeagus, or the male reproductive organ, since it possesses characteristics that will help him determine differences between Nebria species he is looking to compare.

I think the fork is kind of large so you can't tell how HUGE this cupcake is. It's...very big. I'd say it's for two people except I ate the whole thing and subsequently felt very guilty. I thought it was a good cupcake (not overly sweet, cake was mm yum moist and chocolatey) but it was too large and there wasn't enough icing to balance out the cake. There was a small well of icing in the center but NOT ENOUGH! Raawr.

First I undid the screws and prised open the shell...

And located the chip I needed to disconnect.

Now, not being very technically inclined, this took me a fair bit of time. Apparently it is different for USB and PS/2 cuecats - mine is a USB!

Only the few survivors of several dozen soft toys that have been thrown towards the stage during Dissections 2005 Wacken gig. Those few were "saved" by the stage crew - Jon Nödtveid & Co kicked most of them off stage.

These photographs were taken in the plastination lab in the medical school.

I accompanied by friend Dana Nowak to the plastination lab while she completed her frog dissection assignment. She has created her very own major here at Michigan: Perspectives on Death and Dying. She works st a funeral home and is studying the physiology as well as the psychology of death. She takes many classes that other pre-med students would take so that she can better understand the processes of the human body. She is the only person I have known to have had an interest in working with the deceased and the families of the deceased. I noticed that other students in the lab were working on the same assignment even though their career aspirations differ from Dana’s. Her major is undoubtedly very important and very specialized. These photos illuminate the University’s scientific resources that are essential for Dana to realize her dream of running a successful funeral home.
