South Wales Electricity Board showroom, showing what was in the early 1960s, a modern display of domestic & office electric heating.

The Pocahontas and John Smith Designer Dolls are now completely deboxed. Here is the empty display stand in which they were originally packaged. The dolls placed back in the stand, in their original positions. However, Pocahontas' hair is much neater than it was originally, and her braids are now visible, being placed in front of her, rather than behind her. Her shawl has also been loosened, so her arms and hands are now in more natural positions. Her feet are now directly below her, and the trim of her skirt is now a bit neater.

Pocahontas has the same body and head as the 2014 Classic Pocahontas doll, but with obvious changes to her face and hair. Her external hinged knee joints are largely hidden by the trim of her dress, and her articulated ankles enable her to stand flat footed.

John Smith has the standard Disney Store prince body, and his satin shirt is sewn to his vest. The faux suede bag can be opened up by undoing the Velcro fasteners. There is a plastic piece inside to keep it full looking, which I left.

Photos of my Limited Edition Pocahontas and John Smith 12'' Designer Doll Set. Second of five releases in the 2014 Disney Fairytale Designer Collection. I purchased them in store on the release day, Tuesday Sept. 30, 2014. They are #1352 of 6000, and cost $129.95. I think these dolls follow the artwork very well, and look very good together. I like the colors and textures of Pocahontas' outfit and accessories much better than the original Designer Pocahontas doll (released in October 2011). I also think her face is prettier and her expression gentler and more natural. John Smith also has a good expression, and doesn't look as bland as most of the other Designer Princes. The couple are presented side by side in the box, so are both very well shown.

The first three releases of the 2014 DFDC Dolls are placed side by side. Tiana and Naveen, Pocahontas and John Smith, and Cinderella and Prince Charming. The first two have been fully deboxed then placed back in their display stands. The last has not been deboxed yet, but the covers have been removed.

My newly acquired Aqua Fantasy Ariel doll is posed with other Ariel dolls in my collection, so they can be compared.

On the left is my Designer Ariel 12'' doll. She is posed standing, supported by her included custom stand. She is from the Disney Store's Disney Princess Designer Collection of 2011.

In the center is my Aqua Fantasy Ariel. She is posed standing on the included custom display stand. She is a 12'' Disney Collector Doll in the Film Premiere Edition series, made by Mattel in 1997. I'm glad to get her new in her original unopened box. The box is in very good condition, with some wear and warping. The doll is in excellent condition. She has a beautiful face, her hair is in an updo, and she is wearing a spectacular aquamarine dress and tail festooned with pearls, jewels and golden starfish. Included with the doll is a custom plastic stand, a Certificate of Authenticity, a two year warranty, and a cardboard reinforcement for the popup scene that is inside of the front cover.

On the right is my 2004 Sparkle Princess Ariel 12'' doll by Mattel, wearing the Saban's Adventures of The Little Mermaid outfit. She is standing, supported by a Kaiser doll stand.

A Geisha partially dressed, wearing only her Juban (inner kimono). Her hairstyle and the kimono hanging behind her are both in the Genroku style in imitation of the dress of the Genroku period (1688 -1703), a fashion that became popular amongst Tokyo Geisha around 1905. This postcard is captioned “A Japanese Singer in the Dress of Olden Times”, Geisha were often referred to as “Singing Girls” by Western commentators during this period, while Maiko and Hangyoku were referred to as “Dancing Girls”.

Snow White and her Prince have now been fully deboxed. They are posed standing, supported by the built-in doll stands in the base of the display case.

This regular version of the Snow White and the Prince Disney Fairytale Designer Collection Doll Set has the same two base dolls as the D23 special edition dolls that I reviewed earlier. That is the dolls themselves are identical in every way (except for the serial numbers on the back of the Prince dolls). They also have outfits of almost identical designs, but made of different materials and with differing colors. So the dolls have different looks, especially the Snow Whites.

Snow White has the body of a 2012 Disney Store Classic Princess doll. That is, she has hard plastic legs, with hinged knee joints and ball jointed ankles. She is missing the usual manufacturer's marks printed on Disney limited edition dolls, including the part number and her edition size and serial number. She is also missing the twist waist joint of the previous Designer Princess and Designer Villain dolls. She has a pale complexion, the same as the 2012 Snow White, with whom she shares the same body. However, her neck joint has more freedom of movement, especially downward, and her painted on panties are deep golden yellow, much darker than the 2012 Snow White.

Her face mold appears to be the same as the 2012 and 2013 Classic Snow White, but with a considerably different face paint than either of them. She has large dark brown eyes that are glancing to her left, with four short thick lashes over each eye and four very short and thin lashes under each eye. Over her eyes is gold eyeshadow, and thin black eyebrows gently following the curve of her eyes. She also had short rooted eyelashes that are just barely curving upwards, and are even in length. She has a small button nose, a small mouth with blood red lips forming a charming open mouth smile. She has light pink rouge over most of her cheeks, and a round face with small chin. She is a very beautiful and faithful representation of the sweet and charming movie character.

Her hair is a considerable departure from the traditional short flip hairdo. Her jet black hair is parted to the left of her head, and pulled tightly over her head into a medium length braided ponytail that tapers down to a point and is secured by black rubberband, and is sewn to her collar on her right side. There is a small amount of hair product applied just above her forehead, to a thin strip of her hair. In my doll, that strip keeps on separating from the rest of her hair. I haven't been able to integrate it with the rest of her hair; perhaps I will have to apply more hair product to keep it place. There is a thin bright red satin ribbon around the top of her head that ends in a small bow at left side of her head.

Her outfit is a take on her traditional Princess gown. Her bodice and skirt are separate pieces. The bodice is dark blue velvet with gold piping and elaborate gold embroidery, and decorated with a bow made of metallic gold thread. The floral design is similar to the D23 doll, but differs in its details. She has puffy sleeves of the same dark blue velvet, with separate ribbons of bright red satin that float over the velvet. The sleeves have black lace cuffs decorated with gold hearts, and the oversized collar is pure white lace folded in a fan-like manner behind her neck and head. Her skirt is dark golden taffeta with gold embroidering incorporating fleur-de-lis, flowers and hearts. The embroidery in the skirt is identical to that of the D23 doll. The taffeta gives the skirt has a wrinkled, antique appearance. It has a thin pale tan satin lining. There are golden rhinestones scattered throughout the bodice and skirt of her dress. Under her dress is a floor length white satin slip with the lacey pattern at the hem showing below her skirt. It is sewn to her skirt at two spots at the hem, which I chose to leave alone for now. It is also sewn to the waist band of the skirt, so it is a permanent part of the skirt. She is wearing golden tan flat shoes (or slippers), the same as the D23 doll. It is a beautifully designed and beautifully made outfit that is a darker and more ornated version of the Princess outfit of the movie character.

The Prince appears to have the standard Disney Store Prince body, with articulation at the neck, shoulders, hinge jointed elbows, ball jointed hips, and internal knee joints with limited movement. His hands and feet are large, but his head is disproportionately small compared to Snow White. His face has a neutral expression, with small, narrow deep blue eyes, wide mouth and a straight nose. His molded dark brown hair looks okay. His face doesn't look that movie accurate to me; I actually prefer the playline Classic Prince. As with all Disney Prince dolls, he is sturdily built, and can free stand fairly stably. But for safe keeping, it is best to put him up in the included doll stand, which has a wide C-clamp that goes around his waist very snuggly.

The Prince's outfit is very well made and fitted to his body. It consists of a dark blue faux leather vest, a bright red velvet and satin cape with gold piping permanently attached at the shoulders of the vest, a dark blue faux leather belt with a gold metal buckle and a short black faux leather scabbard attached, white satin shirt, black pants and black boots with a worn look and creases. In the scabbard is a steel gray sword with a brown handle. The sword is thin and very flexible. It was slightly bent out of the box, but was easily bent back into shape. The D23 Prince's vest is much thicker, and feels much more like real leather than this Prince doll. But this Prince has an outfit that is much closer in color to the movie character. He looks great in his outfit, and very dashing, but I wish his expression had more emotion, and was more cheerful.

My display stand for the MCU figs.

I'll eventually add a row for the Defenders and swap out to some of the Infinity War versions.

D23 Designer Coronation Elsa and Hans have been fully deboxed, and are back in their original display stand. They are now both facing forward, in more natural poses than the original boxed poses. You can also see the full extent of Elsa's outfit, as it is no longer restricted to be inside of the case.

The cape is magenta with a black embroidery and magenta jewels, and is fully lined with magenta satin. Her skirt is teal with multicolored embroidery and jewels, and is also fully lined. Her separate bodice matches the skirt in color and decorations, and has the black blouse sewn to it. She is wearing blue green stretch gloves, so she is fully covered up. She is holding the royal golden orb and scepter, attached by rubber bands to her hands. Finally she has a golden crown with a blue gem in the center.

Photos of the D23 Exclusive Designer Elsa and Hans doll set. I purchased it on its release day, Friday August 14, 2015. It is Limited Edition and cost $129.95. My set is #758 of 1023. It is part of the 2015 Disney Fairytale Designer Collection, but is a variant of the LE 6000 version. This D23 version has Elsa and Hans in their coronation outfits. The regular version has Elsa in her Snow Queen outfit, and Hans in his normal gray outfit, and will be released in stores and online on October 27-28, 2015.

Hans is in white, and Elsa is in teal and purple. Elsa is also holding her golden coronation orb and scepter. They are posable 12'' dolls. They are supported by built in doll stands, and inside of a display case with a golden nameplate and protected by a clear acrylic cover, with a fully illustrated slipcover over that.

Elsa is very similar to the Limited Edition Coronation Elsa 17'' Doll that was released in March 2014. One big difference is that Designer Elsa has her royal orb and scepter, and a blue jewel in her crown, that are missing from the 17'' doll.

☠ ☠

-->> I mostly use the "Paramount Movie" tag to distinguish the 2014 movie reboot from the original films. Not that it's hard to do that. My "tOkKustom" repaint of the standard carded Leo figure was to heighten the details of the Varner sculpt, not necessarily to go for hyper-detailed movie accuracy.

The two noggins on the toy seem slightly different. But i highly suspect a manufacturing issue on that note.

My Designer Zarina Doll has been fully deboxed, and put back on the display stand. The slip cover and acrylic lid of the case have been removed, and the cardboard backing has been cut off the base, so we have a clear view of the doll from all angles.

Even though she is listed as 11'' H, she actually stands 11 1/2'' high on the display stand, the same as previous Disney Designer Princess dolls. She also has the same body construction as the original Designer Princess dolls, with ball jointed neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist and hip joints. She has rubber legs with internal hinge knee jointed knees, and fixed angled feet. She has the same face mold as the Classic Zarina doll and has a very similar look. The biggest difference between them is the shine, pearly textured skin on her face and body. Her face is shinier than the rest of her body.

Her outfit is based on that of her movie character in The Pirate Fairy, and with details in the product description below. Her navy blue coat is made to look like part of the sleeve of a British Royal Navy officer (the insignia is that of a Lieutenant). Her fairy wings are a single piece of transparent plastic that is tinted pale orange, and is iridescent. It looks like a butterfly with its wings slightly folded. It is sewn to the back of her coat. Her sword is secured to her right hand by a piece of clear plastic and a rubber band, that I left as it was done by the factory. It allows the sword to held at an angle, or straight, and hold the pose.

Her hair is similar in color and style to Classic Merida, even though the movie character has much straighter hair. It has a good bit of hair product to set the curls, which makes them stiff, but the rest of her hair (on the top of her head) is smooth and soft. She has long curvy eyelashes, with antennae-like longer lashes on the outside corners of her eyes. She has thin red lips in a smirk. She has a swashbuckling attitude, and is a very beautiful and impressive looking doll.

Photographed with built in camera flash.

Zarina Disney Fairies Designer Collection Doll

US Disney Store

Purchased In Store 2014-02-18

#0137 of 4000

First look at my Zarina Limited Edition Designer Doll. My Zarina is 0137 of 4000. There were no designer bags, as there were in the previous Designer doll collections.

I visited my local Disney Store on Februay 18, 2014, for the release of the Disney Fairies Designer Collection dolls. I also noticed that they had several items in the Frozen section that had been missing for several weeks, especially the mugs and Classic Anna dolls, but no Elsas.

They had eight of each Designer Fairy doll, Tinker Bell and Zarina. There were about that many people waiting in line before the store opened, waiting to buy them. I didn't do an actual count, but no one left the line when it was announced how many dolls there were, so there were probably seven or eight of them in the line. They had no designer bags, so they just put them in regular Disney Store bags.

I inspected my dolls, and they looked in perfect condition. I was surprised by their shiny pearly skin (similar in texture to LE Ursula and Harrods Elsa), but they looked very beautiful. The artwork on the boxes were also very beautiful, but the backgrounds behind the dolls were plain looking. The CM had to help me take off the slip cover of the Zarina doll, as it was very tight. She said all the Zarinas seemed to be that way.

-->> Representing another interesting turning point in the 2003 series as the actually, somewhat short-lived, "futuristic" and lighter TMNT: FAST FORWARD line marked the start of a shift in the Toys and animated worlds of the Turtles. All of this was both praised and shunned by many fans of the show. Cut off by the TMNT 2007 film toy line, a whole wave of unreleased characters and fun Turtle variants never made it past TOY FAIR.

Another "alright" reproduction - this one was kind of hard to remove from the base. But it may have just been mine. Small paint apps are missing such as below the knee. Leo's futuristic katanas were partly made of a translucent blue plastic with a painted metallic handle ( representing the lazer-like, lightsabre-ish weapons of the show ). Here they are cast in solid silver. The scabbard on his back is completely blue, the original's scabbard is silver-metallic. While it may just be MY particular figure, it does appear that the head on my repro FF Leo is just a tad off-mold. ~ t

Zarina Disney Fairies Designer Collection Doll

I just received my mail order Zarina Designer Doll today (February 27, 2014). She will be my spare, that I keep boxed. She is #0004 of 4000! -->> Another custom CLASSICS line fig with Tokka paint work for comparison. Also based off the classic HENSON CREATURE SHOP designs. ~ t

☠ ☠

-->> This guy translates alright, but again is not without a tiny bit of modification. The most notable mod is in the bigger whites of his EYES. The change from the smaller molded eyes of the original 2012 also appears on carded retail 2015 reissues of that standard Leo toy. The explanation prolly lies in another budget issue with Playmates and a small money saving tactic. A "throwback" variant of the same sculpts of the 2012 first wave of Turtles with "retro" colored knee/elbow pads, initials on their belts like the classic '88 Turtle toys, and show accurate pupils that replace the "WHITE" blank eyes of that initial wave. Leo's eyes on the 2012 were apparently too small so the Varner sculpted noggin has had the eyelets widened to compensate for the pupils on the Playmates touted "NEW DECORATION" Leo version of this figure and the 2015 reissues. They use the wide-eye head for both versions. ~ t

☠ ☠

-->> Modifications on this reproduction aren't too bad. The right foot has been modified to set FLAT on the ground. Possibly again for stability reasons on the display stand. He may stand better than the original release actually. The feet are a little tiny bit bigger.

The Dual-Action Katana is recoloured from vintage releases but actually looks really good. The belt strangely has just a silver medallion where an "L" initial used to be on the '97 release. The "L" imprint is actually still there, but it almost looks painted over by the silver paint. You can barely see it under the metallic.

Like the vintage MOVIE STARS, the N.M. Turtle's arms, head and legs had softer and rubbery plastics. The only soft part left is the bandanna piece on the back of the noggin.

-->> A slightly early, surprise release for the 2002 holiday season at Wal-mart stores ( perhaps others ) of just the Teens to get kids hyped on the then NEW upcoming relaunch Turtles show brought the original intro of this sculpt. Arguably, that original wave of TMNT '03 figures was some of the strongest product PLAYMATES ever produced. With the Teens and supporting cast featuring newer articulation not seen in TMNT toys before, great detailing and washes on the paint schemes, and notable actual paint on the weapons themselves -- Playmates & 4kids wanted fans to know that these Teens meant business !!

In the budget cutting age of Playmates with minimal, weird, questionable, or NO paint decos on retail figures - this guy translates "OK" in this set.

Another stabilization modification is made to the left leg this time on the toy giving his foot and lower leg a slightly less 'bent' stance compared to the original. The newer stance is a bit more rounded and stable and looks cool. The belt, scabbard, & swords go unpainted this time so no real details except for the sculpt itself. The body gets only the basic paint and NO paint washes or detailing. The plastron chest-piece on the '02 toy is a bit softer and you can actually press it in a little bit. The chest-piece on this reproduction is entirely solid. Non-pliable whatsoever. This repro is still pretty adequate a representation of the '03 figure.

-->> The noggin on my FF Leo reproduction toy seems just slightly off. Not a big deal, but it just doesn't look 100 % correct. The forehead particularly seems off-mold.

-->> The box art reproduces the initial '03 card backer art of Leo ( also used on other Playmates and non- products ). That art was used for quite some time. It really matched the look of that first wave Leo. You may still find it here and there on some items like BLUE BUNNY frozen ice cream Ninja Turtle products. ~ t

-->> The notable differences on these repro Leo toys really stands out starting here. Varner's original Sculpt has been modified at the feet, prolly due to display issues. Now with larger toes, missing scabbard & belt ( for some reason ), lack of paint compared to the detailed original release, and the bandanna piece on the noggin has swapped sides ( similar to the '92 prototype ) compared to the '92 figure. The plastic is harder also, the original had a softer "REAL FEEL" rubbery texture to the turtles head, arms, and legs. ~ t
