There is something about the stark, barren, unambiguous nature of ice. It is unwelcoming, unyielding, and bitterly cold. And yet, like the Ice Queen herself, we are drawn to her beauty, and view her with fascination. Despite her deadly nature, we are captivated by her power, her indifference. There are stories and verses galore commending the beauty of trees, sunsets, mountain meadows, a golden pond, but far less is said about the icy fortresses of glaciers and the arctic. I suspect it is because when face to face with such an awesome sight, our words simply fall short. They rise to our lips in amazement, and then fall silent, as frozen as our breath, and all we can do is gasp in wonder.
A mama iceberg drifts through a stormy Disko Bay surrounded by her little offspring. Don't like the weather in Greenland? Just give it 20 mins :)
Happy Wednesday!
