I thought my focus was off, but it was just the berglets were moving in this longer exposure! By removing the largest and closest berglet, the rest of the image looks good, just don't pixel peep and then you'll notice the mov't.

Landsat image of glaciers that drain the central ice field through Disko Bay, western Greenland. Near the western edge of the image are two communities, Ilulissat (to the north) and Claushavn (to the south). I chose this image, which was acquired in 2000, as a basis of comparison with a series of images that I posted after flying over the same features in 2012. By comparing the two sets of images (the posted aerial photographs and the Landsat image), one can get a better appreciation of glacial actions. This satellite image is the first in a series that show the same area.

Looking north from the hills above Ilimanaq at the icebergs leaving the mouth of the Ilulissat Icefjord. In the distance you can see Disko Island, 60 km away.
This panorama was stitched from 15 hand-held photographs with PTGUI Pro, processed with Color Efex, and touched up in Affinity Photo and Aperture.

Le Groenland ou Kalaallit Nunnat, province autonome du Royaume du Danemark, est au cœur de nombreux enjeux géopolitiques. Après avoir obtenu une autonomie interne en 1979, le pays n’a eu de cesse de la faire accroitre jusqu’à l’obtention, en 2008, d’un régime d’autonomie élargie. Le Groenland présente un fort potentiel minier et pétrolier, ses eaux côtières recèleraient des réserves de pétrole équivalentes à près de 10% des réserves mondiales connues. Le réchauffement climatique va faciliter l'accès à ces ressources. L'exploitation des richesses du sous-sol est une perspective à double tranchant : elle ouvre la possibilité de s'affranchir de la tutelle danoise, mais, ce faisant, menace l'environnement et les traditions.
