Icebergs in Disko Bay, Ilulissat Icefjord, Greenland

(in explore)

Last of a series of 24 images of Disko Bay, Greenland... for now! This series of images which uses a different approach in post-processing - somewhat desaturated to remove the strong color cast induced by bright lighting conditions, has been grouped together at www.flickr.com/photos/132192297@N04/albums/72157712965713538.

Back to Greenland with a series of new images. Different approach in post-processing as I felt colors were somewhat detracting from the icebergs themselves. Shooting conditions for the first few days: cloudless dark blue skies, a nightmare for photographers! I had a try at B&W but felt that I was loosing something with the total absence of colors. So I experimented with a different combination of white balance/desaturation, and here it is... which, from my perspective, ends up with more subtle colors and stronger whites, highlighting the magnificence of those icebergs.

Back to Greenland with a series of new images. Different approach in post-processing as I felt colors were somewhat detracting from the icebergs themselves. Shooting conditions turned for the better on the last day with low clouds and heavy fog, a significant change from the cloudless dark blue skies we had experienced during the week.

Amazing memories of floating among the many, small to mammoth icebergs.

Disko Bay, Greenland.

Nature tends to move from order to disorder in isolated systems. Entropy is the measure of this disorder.

Its quarter past midnight in Disko Bay in West Greenland with a sun that doesn't set. I was in awe of the incredible light and pastel colours in these huge icebergs from the very low sun. In fact I've reduced the saturation and vibrance in Lightroom because the raw shot just doesn't look real!

Summer night cruise around the icebergs in Disko Bay, Ilulissat in Greenland. At this time of year, the sun never sets. Instead it produces some incredible colours and textures reflected in the icebergs. We were totally mesmerised by the light

This particular shot was taken around 12:15am and has not been enhanced at all – in fact, I have desaturated the RAW image because it just doesn’t look real.

Apologies for not responding recently to your posts - working with limited broadband and very limited time on this amazing photo tour

An early morning on a still Disko Bay with amazing icebergs all around us.
