Discovered this abandoned castle a while ago. This morning we got up really early to shoot the sunrise in combination with the frost and the snow. It was -8°C (really cold for us), but nevertheless a beautiful morning!
(And no, we couldn't enter the castle, a pity...)

Discovered an odd combination Mamiya 50mm f/2. It has the machined focus ring of the old AUTO, but the rest of the lens is SX, but the extra pin is missing and the SX label is omitted. It's also lighter, like the SX model. Who manufactured this lens? Tomioka? Mamiya? It's neither lens model. What glass is used? An interesting find.
This building is being renovated and look what surprise showed itself when the '60s era façade was removed. Love it!
Looking through my old phone books, this company was here from at least 1949 - 1964. By 1977, it had moved to another location at NW 21st and May.

The Luray Caverns Wishing Well is the deepest body of water in the caverns with a depth of six feet at the center. At the end of the year, two to three feet of coins will cover the bottom of this pool. The coins are collected annually, and awards are made to national and regional health, environmental and educational organizations as listed.
Luray Caverns, originally called Luray Cave, is the largest cavern system in eastern America and the most visited in the United States, generously adorned with speleothems such as columns, mud flows, stalactites, stalagmites, flowstone, and mirrored pools. Although known to Native Americans and estimated by scientists to be approximately 450 million years old, Luray Caverns was first discovered by Euro-Americans on August 13, 1878, by five local men, including local tinsmith Andrew J. Campbell, William Campbell, John “Quint” Campbell, and local photographer Benton Stebbins. Luray Caverns is known as a solution cave, or a karst cave, which is formed in the soluble rock limestone. Bedrock is dissolved by natural carbonic acid formed from carbon dioxide and ground water. When that solution seeps through the ground, it hollows out the bedrock and over geological epochs, these openings expand as the walls continue to dissolve. discovered in the north of yukon, the fact that placer miners noticed the find and saved the ancient pup in such pristine condition is a testament to their keen observation.
I didn't see the heart when I originally shot this pic. Discovered it later and thought it pretty cool. When I first saw the thumbnail of this photo I almost didn't open it up. The other thumbnails looked better. Boy, I'm glad I did. I found some hidden love. Turns out the other pics didn't have it.

Stained glass window to St Helen.
The window depicts St. Helen [Wikipedia], the mother of Emperor Constantine, who discovered and brought to Rome the remains of Christ's cross. The Latin inscription reads "Ave O Crux. Spes Unica." That is: Hail O Cross, our only hope."
Inscription: "From her loving husband & children to the memory of Ellen Coughlin RIP". Ellen Coughlin is my daughters' (Helen's and Laura's) great-great-great grandmother. Ellen Coughlin (née O'Brien) was born Ardfield, County Cork, Munster, Ireland, on 11/04/1845.
It is highly probable that Andrew Coughlin and Ellen O'Brien, with their respective families, emigrated from Ireland at the time of the Great Famine (Ireland) [Wikipedia] (otherwise known as the Irish Potato Famine), as did a great many others during that tragedy.

Could there be any correspondence between the name Coughlin and the name Cú Chulainn [Wikipedia]? I first came across this mythological character from ancient Irish Celtic tradition whilst watching the TV documentary Ireland's Treasures Uncovered [BBC iPlayer, presented by Dr Alice Robert] in February 2016. One of the artefacts discussed in this documentary [38 minutes from start time] is the Book of the Dun Cow (Lebor na hUidre [Wikipedia]). This book dates from the 12th century, and is written in the Irish language. It is the earliest book written entirely in Irish. Although written by monks in the 12th century, its stories, this inherited lore, are not Christian, but instead the stories related within in it are pre-Christian, or pagan. The epic of Táin Bó Cúailnge [Wikipedia] tells the story of Cú Chulainn, the most important character in the book.
If there is any bearing from this ancient Irish mythology on the origins of the name Coughlin, then this is most intriguing.

Television documentary that speaks of the Great Irish Famine or the Potato Famine: Great Irish Journeys with Martha Kearney [pronounced Carney] - [BBC iPlayer]
* The television programme referred to above visits the site of a mass burial of 10,000 people at Skibbereen, County Cork. These people died as a result of the famine that struck Ireland in the 1840s.
* Mention is made of artist, Mr. James Mahoney, of Cork, who produced drawings of the famine for the The Illustrated London News. A web page showing some of these drawing can be found at: Sketches in the West of Ireland - [Blog: Views of the Famine]

...Here at EPCOT Center
From time to time, various EPCOT Center ideas pop into my head and whenever I make anything out of them I always think to myself, "If this were in a store, would I buy it?"
And the answer is always YES. Even if these are done purely out of my own interest, I still like making them; but, it sure would be neat to work for the merchandising team and be able to produce actual materials to be sold in the parks and online.
This is just one of a few variations I came up with. I made another one that features Spaceship Earth at night, and one that has a slightly modified overall layout.
In fact, this was not originally the one I was going to post. I had a different version that I was working on, but it just didn't feel finished, so I saved what I had and left it for a few days. Then, when I decided to finish it and make it feel complete is when I came up with this one
-- and a few other good versions.
I had a day off today, so I got into the car with my camera and drove down 10 East. I had no idea where I was headed to until I spotted the exit, Orange. What I discovered was a peaceful little town filled with old school architectures and antique shops. LOVE! Took me a while to find out where I was - Redlands!
Ambassador Hans Klemm awarded Erika Garnier of Motivation Romania with the title of Romanian Woman of Courage for 2016. Erika, a young woman in a wheelchair, has become a tireless advocate for people with disabilities. Since 2011, Erika has worked with Motivation Romania to help people facing mobility challenges to discover how they can become more active in their personal, social, and professional lives. Erika coordinates the training for clients and families on how to best use wheelchairs to achieve freedom of movement and personal independence.
The Embassy also awarded; Magda Ciobanu and Ramona Brad who founded the Romania Respira Coalition, a network of more than 250 organizations advocating to ban smoking in public places; Ioana Moldovan, a freelance photojournalist who has dedicated her career to showing the negative consequences of conflict on human lives and also covered the military and political developments in Ukraine, Turkey and the refugee crisis; SFC Mirela-Valentina Melinte, the first member of the Romanian Armed Forces to participate in a mission with a US Special Forces Detachment; and Madalina Turza, the President of the European Centre for the Rights of Children with Disabilities (CEDCD) – an important NGO advocating for the rights of children with disabilities in Romania, particularly for their access to equal education. Ms. Turza, whose daughter also has Down’s Syndrome, mobilized parents of children with disabilities across the country to develop and prompt the parliament to pass a bill to reform the education and protection systems for children with special education needs.
