This is not going to be the first, and last picture of a person smoking from Burma. It seemed like “everyone” did smoke, and especially pipes. Smoking pipes are not very common anymore in Norway, so it was a bit strange to see this behavior.
According to www.tobaccoatlas.org/country-data/myanmar/, Tobacco harms the health, the treasury, and the spirit of Myanmar. Every year more than 56400 of it's people are killed by tobacco-caused disease, while more than 152000 children and more than 7218000 adults continue to use tobacco each day. Complacency in the face of the tobacco epidemic will ensure the tobacco industry continues to run roughshod over the lives of Myanmar's citizens and ensure that tobacco's death toll will grow with each passing year. Tobacco control advocates must reach out to other communities to strengthen their efforts in this mortal fight.

Pandora's Trunk (4829)
This evening, the sky was filled with unusual, beautiful cloud formations. I decided to make this composition look as if the clouds and stars were streaming from the open trunk of the car, almost as if spirits or the very stars were being unleashed. Pearsonville Auto Salvage Yard, Mojave Desert, California. I used a handheld LED flashlight to illuminate the interior/exterior of the truck. We had these amazing clouds most of the evening, creating fantastic shapes with or without long exposures.
This is a real photo taken at night. Everything was illuminated by a big bright moon, an almost full moon, almost bright enough to read a book. And setting my tripod-mounted camera to a long exposure made the camera much more sensitive to light than our eyes on this already bright evening. This is why this photo seems brighter than what we might see at night. It is not due to post-processing. The moon, which reflects light from the sun, also makes the sky bluer, and when the photo is a long exposure photo, the sky will appear brighter, making the blue more apparent. I also illuminated the junkyard car with a handheld ProtoMachines LED2 flashlight while the camera shutter was open. This is not a post-processing creation. No pixels were harmed during the creation of this photo. :D

NadaDada is a group of artists who came to recognition in 2007 with the first Dada Motel Exhibit centered at the historic El Cortez Hotel in Reno, Nevada.
Outside the historic mining town of Goldfield, NV, in a desert dotted by Joshua Trees, you can see a field of old cars that are wildly painted and jammed into the ground at unlikely angles. This is the International Car Forest of the Last Church, created by Michael "Mark" Rippie and painted by Chad Sorg. In July 2014, I stayed in Goldfield and created night photos with light painting to enhance the bold colors of the painted cars even more. Light painting photos of this nature are often best done near a full moon, and although occasionally plagued with cloudy skies, I managed to get some photos I was happy with here at this strange art installation.
With a nod of gratitude to Troy Paiva and Lance Keimig, two photographers who largely pioneered this sort of light painting approach.. I don't do this sort of light painting often, but their two books definitely had an influence on this photo.

This is a real photo taken at night. This evening, everything was illuminated by a big bright moon, an almost full moon, almost bright enough to read a book. And setting my tripod-mounted camera to a long exposure made the camera much more sensitive to light than our eyes on this already bright evening. This is why this photo seems brighter than what we might see at night. It is not due to post-processing. The moon, which reflects light from the sun, also makes the sky bluer, and when the photo is a long exposure photo, the sky will appear brighter, making the blue more apparent. I also illuminated the interior in a very colorful manner with a handheld LED flashlight while the camera shutter was open, grazing light off the walls, ceiling, and floor. This is not a post-processing creation. No pixels were harmed during the creation of this photo. :D
