Former Grant City Discount Store located at 1400 South Limit Ave. in Sedalia,MO. The building is currently occupied by a Kmart. This Grant City location closed in 1975 with the building quickly being acquired by Kmart which has still retained the overall exterior design and even hints of the original Grant City interior. The most notable interior holdover from Grant City is the olive green floor which gives an odd, dark feel from the florescent lighting throughout the store. The auto care center is leased to an independent repair shop operating under the name Auto Masters. The auto care center has a strange setup as there is still access to the (seperately owned) auto care center from inside the Kmart building. There space which operated as the restaurant for Grant City and later Kmart now holds a rather large office supply and stationary department.

Kmart Discount Store located at 2821 East Main St. in Russellville,AR. This store which is/was the last Kmart location in the State of Arkansas is slated to close by the end of the 2018 holiday season. I stopped by this store on October 23rd 2018 and it was "business as usual", the following day over a dozen "going out of business" signs were being put up throughout the store. I should note that the garden center is currently used for storage and not accessible to the public.

Former Kmart Discount Store located at 381 Madison Ave. in Skowhegan,ME. The building is currently occupied by a Tractor Supply Company.
Note Kmart opened this 40,000 square foot store on August 9th 1979 and operated until May 15th 1996. After Kmart closed this location the building sat vacant until the Summer 2007 when Tractor Supply opened in the space.
Its also worth noting at the time of its opening, this was the first Tractor Supply store in the State of Maine. As of October 2022 the company has 10 locations operating across Maine.
Kmart Discount Store located at 10321 East 21st St. in Tulsa,OK. This store which opened on November 9th 1972 is closing on September 3rd 2017. This store was the first of four stores located in the City of Tulsa and ended up being the last of the four stores in operation. I had the pleasure of meeting an employee known among the crew as "Mrs. Leanne". She had worked at this store since 1977 and had very fond memories of working for the Kmart Corporation. She was heartbroken when she learned of the closure of "her" store but knew the day would come once Eddie Lampert became CEO of the Company. One of her favorite memories was the daily store meetings held in the Kmart Restaurant where the employees and managers would chain smoke discussing the daily blue light specials. The future of the building is unknown.

At the end of a solid black NS coal train is Conrail 495026. It seemed fitting to me to have a red car to bring up the rear like a discount caboose.

Medallion Discount Store located at 6464 East Northwest Hwy. in Dallas,TX. The 108,000 square foot building is currently occupied by a Target store.
Note Medallion opened this store on September 3rd 1962 and operated until August 12th 1976. After an extensive remodel the building was acquired by Target which officially opened for business in July 1977.
Note an estimated 100,000 shoppers came to the opening day of the massive discount store!
Its also worth noting the shopping center is still called the "Medallion Center" as of April 2022.
Kmart Discount Store located at 58 Western Ave. in Augusta,ME. The store is slated to closed in December 2019 as reported on a leaked corporate memo that also provides the closing locations of 93 additional Kmart and Sears locations across the Country. This store opened in 1961 as a Grant City Discount Store and was acquired by Kmart in 1977. The store has a very strange layout and an overall terrible location with very poor visibility so the upcoming closure isn't much of a surprise. There were less than ten customers in the store during the time of my visit around 1:00pm on Friday August 8th 2019.
Makes sense (I guess!) that seasonal items weren't as heavily discounted as some of the other stuff. This I believe is down one of the many aisles in seasonal -- seems this Kmart had a particularly large seasonal department.
