I bought his orchid plant on the way home for goat tending in Belmont; it was on the discount table at a local farmstand and nursery. This image is a 50-frame focus stack, blended with Helicon Focus.
I am asked this question frequently. I put in my time researching on line information shared by other people interested in birds. One of the best local ones is the Fraser Valley Birding Forum Group and Ebird is the best one going for locations and sightings around the world. I occasionally get and give information to locals I know. I also just get out there and look and listen as best I can with old ears and eyes.
There are a lot of birds out there and you just need to put in your time. The more prep you put in the better your chances. Of course dumb luck is not to be discounted!

Winter Wind Farm
This is one of the wind farms north of Moffat on the road to Edinburgh, another from that Saturday:)
I love the way the fresh snow is clinging to the trees but also the way that the trees almost mimic the wind turbines behind on the hillside.

what I love to photograph mostly, is figures, shadows, reflections, controluce, I have also taken photos of flowers, boats, sunsets [and they are so fantastic in my country] , portraits, macro, buildings, etc... I also sometimes like to "play" to make collages, to add several funny or other things on the photos, but I believe that a good , artistic, photo is the one that has to do with our glance, our knowledge on the technical part , so there will be no need to fix it in the photoshop... this is not photography, is something else....so today I have chosen two shots from a walk outside, I hope you will like them, if not, please tell my why, I learn from your sincere comments.
this text is an answer to D. who asked me what I like to take photos of, and to do a self criticism.

Day two in Venice was cloudy. We started off with an early visit to the Rialto Bridge then ferry hopped the islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello.

Which do you like Best?
Milky Way over historic Simpson Springs Pony Express Station, Utah.
Both are single exposures. My simplified star trails technique is explained on page 62 of my eBook. No need to stack hundreds of exposures, like other complicated star trail methods. All processing is done in-camera, using the LENR mode (Long Exposure Noise Reduction), rather than having to do post processing stacking afterwards on your computer — joining together hundreds of single exposures into circling trails!
TECHNIQUE & EXIF: Canon 6D (H-alpha modified) + Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 @ 15mm • LEFT: Single exposure, 15 sec, f/2.8, ISO 8000 • RIGHT: Star Trails. one exposure @ 2520 seconds (42 minutes), f/5.0, ISO 160, using LENR mode.
My eBook, Milky Way NightScapes, gives extensive details on my style of starry night landscape photography. Four chapters cover planning, scouting, forecasting star/landscape alignment, light painting, shooting techniques and post processing. Dawson Creek, British Columbia - Canada (July 28, 1997) - Big Milestone. I have finally made it to the "World Famous Alaska Highway"!...(#98) back | next
In 1997 I rode a bicycle from Florida to Alaska. I'm posting the story here on flickr.
I reached my 5000th mile (8,047km) here in Grand Prairie - which really makes it sound far. Fortunately Grand Prairie was a fairly large city, and the next day I went to a department store that had tires for sale. This time, I bought a pair of thick road tires - two for $60. The thickest I could find. I'll put them on in Dawson Creek. These would be the tires that would carry me the length of the Alaska Highway.
I didn't get to Dawson Creek until later today and the tourist information booth was closed, but they let me have the discount at the campground anyway. Tomorrow I'm taking the day off to see Dawson Creek, but I have to go find my rain cover, which blew off somewhere.
Dawson Creek is the beginning of the Alaska Highway - 1,523 miles (2,451 km) of rough road that until a few years ago wasn't even paved the whole way. It was constructed in a matter of months during WWII so troops could move supplies and personnel to Alaska in case of a Japanese attack. Even as it stood now, it was a rough road by any standards. I was taking the day off, but had to backtrack to find my rain cover. It was not a really huge deal, but after all we had been through together, I knew I would really miss it. I rode a 25 mile round trip to no avail. I would have to do without my beloved rain cover...read the whole story
