On the way back from my friend's house a week or so ago I realised that for once I was early for my train. Rather than wait for 20 minutes at the station cold and bored out of my mind I decided to grab a half at a nearby bar.
On trying to enter I was in a fortunately positive mood as the bouncer ID'd me. I thanked him kindly for knocking eleven years off my life , showed him my passport, observed his rather shocked expression and walked in. At the bar I was regarded with deep suspicion but they decided to sell me a half a lager anyway.
With only 20 minutes I decided to take some long exposure pictures of the crap flashy disco lights. After five minutes of enjoying myself yet another bouncer approached me and told me to put my camera away or leave. I told him that I was taking pictures of the lights but it was manager's orders. I put my camera away and left.
At the time I was in a good enough mood not to care but since then I have been rankled by this a little. I'm not a fan of this trend of stopping people taking pictures , it's leading somewhere bad.
Beach party Cuban style. Loud, colourful, active and totally awesome! Handheld with ICM and long exposure because... why not? Taken with one of my old pentax-M lenses, not sure which one for some reason. It was a great party..
Have you ever gone home after shooting, downloaded the images and wondered where the party was? I shot this image at a community garden a couple of weeks ago and was quite surprised with the result. If life could always be as colourful and filled with disco lights as this! Have a great day everyone....see you when I get home from work!

In the end, the experience made the journey more than worthwhile. How often do you see the Golden Gate Bridge engulfed in a wall of fire or bathed in the glow of disco lights? This coming Fourth of July has a tough act to follow.

After the wedding,there was a splendid dinner party ! And of course energetic dancing to the flashing of disco lights and the sound of great rock music classics! Such dancing invites dehydration, and dehydration invites replenishment with WATER! The party took place in a fascinating venue, Arts on Main, which is a magical and brilliant example of urban renewal in the eastern part of the old Johannesburg CBD, which had largely fallen into disrepair! It's now a major, multicultural, tourist and local attraction with arts and crafts on offer and fabulous eateries and SAFE parking! Great for photographers!

This room at Bicycle Heaven seems innocuous enough at first; the lights are dim, and there's just so much to see that's outside of this room that it's easy to ignore altogether. You'll probably assume it's a room that wasn't finished and the door was accidentally left open. This is a situation where being curious pays off. As you enter, you trip a motion sensor and rave music fires up on a small sound system, black lights and disco lights turn on and suddenly you're dealing with a mild sensory overload. What a pleasant surprise!

"Happiness is a disco light."
That's my personal motto. There is ALWAYS a song in my head, and I'm usually dancing to it. My idea of Heaven is being on a dance floor, bathed in disco lights with some REALLY good house beats thumping in my chest.
