Swallowtail - caterpillar on her food plant (burnet) against the setting sun in the haze on a high-altitude meadow.

The light for the caterpillar comes from a reflector and a modest use of LED lamp.

Evening descends as fishermen, snug in a shanty, fish for dinner. Thanks for looking and have a warm day!

Nature can be harsh to witness, but everything works together for the its overall balance. This scene played out late afternoon into early evening on my first day in the Mara region. This is a female cheetah named Kweli and her three cubs. Kweli started after a gazelle, but the hunt failed. She swtiched her focus to a herd of impala and before we knew it she had dinner for the family. It was truly incredible to watch how little she could do for close to a half hour following. This period allowed her cubs to start the meal before she was able to join in later.

Every evening the same routine plays out. Papa lands on a nearby telephone pole within view of his family and eats the head of his fresh catch. Only then does he fly over and drop the mutilated fish into the nest. I've spent numerous late afternoons watching this process over and over, but never where the entire family was visible. This time, all four chicks, including the runt, picked up their heads at the perfect moment. Unfortunately, Mama, in the rear, decided to duck down.

After a successful hunt, the Rough-leg flew off to enjoy his dinner. Unfortunately I had a tough time following him and had my shutter speed set a bit low-- this was as good a shot as I got. Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary in West Alton, MO

I was fortunate to view and photograph this short-eared owl on a low fencepost with his dinner, in the last minutes of light.

Sunset at the Dinner Tree in Derby, Western Australia. The boab tree at the One Mile Dinner camp is one of the main attractions on the Derby Pastoral Trail. A great place to watch the sun go down.

This broad-bodied Darter was lucky and catched a fat meal. I've been lucky too and could take this photo of it!

Thanks to the butterfly who stayed in there while I attempted this.
