Swallowtail - caterpillar on her food plant (burnet) against the setting sun in the haze on a high-altitude meadow.

The light for the caterpillar comes from a reflector and a modest use of LED lamp.

Das Licht für die Raupe stammt von einem Reflektor und einer dezent eingesetzten LED Lampe.

Dinner plate dahlia in my garden.

Azure Kingfisher with a freshly caught fish that looks too big to eat! A particularly fine specciment of a bird with what looks like freshly minted nice new blue plumage.

Western Grebe with a meal. I took this photo at Silverbell lake in west Tucson Arizona USA.

Every evening the same routine plays out. Papa lands on a nearby telephone pole within view of his family and eats the head of his fresh catch. Only then does he fly over and drop the mutilated fish into the nest. I've spent numerous late afternoons watching this process over and over, but never where the entire family was visible. This time, all four chicks, including the runt, picked up their heads at the perfect moment. Unfortunately, Mama, in the rear, decided to duck down.

One Cormorant who won't be going hungry!

Overlooked by most., but one of our favourite birds

They're big and powerful flyers., Land and take off on water., Can swim as fast as most fish and have a wonderfully mischievous personality

When you think about it there's not much to match that!

THANKS FOR YOUR VISIT AND FAVES

ON THE REACTIONS I WILL TRY TO RESPOND BACK

I think this is a song thrush but I do get confused with the song thrush and the Mistle thrush so would appreciate your opinion and thanks for all your faves and comments x

I watched these determined pigeons awaiting the departure of the diners at this table and once they did the feast began in earnest.

Late in the afternoon, a Burrowing Owl pants and calls from above the burrow

A great blue heron prepares to feed a juvenile child.

This Blue Heron picked a spot among a Wood Stork rookery - the only heron among the storks. The Great Blue is also the only bird I've witnessed stand up to a Wood Stork - couldn't have been easy raising this one in these surroundings.

After a successful hunt, the Rough-leg flew off to enjoy his dinner. Unfortunately I had a tough time following him and had my shutter speed set a bit low-- this was as good a shot as I got. Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary in West Alton, MO

Dinner with Beautiful Doll...after a long and awesome day!

Butterflies enjoying a purple flower

We went looking for Bald Eagles, they were hiding from us so we watched this guy dine.

It was sunny and dark clouds in different parts of the sky. I decided to shoot on low ISO. As I spotted this seagull standing still looking around. With the nice light shone on the seagull and good angle I raised my camera. Suddenly it pulled out a crab from the pebbles flying away before other seagulls go after its prey, still got a lot to learn about the seagulls.

I took a few shots as it unfolds and managed to freeze this last frame. Not exactly the image I would like to have but given the unexpected circumstances and windy conditions I think it is alright. What are your thoughts ?

The much larger females can change their body color and adapt to the environment. Since this species cannot build webs, it waits until an insect lands nearby. Quickly, it grabs the spider with its long, spiny front legs and injects the prey with a fast-acting poison. This means they can even prey on insects that are several times their own size.

The males are much smaller and cannot change their color.

I never seem to get good Butterfly shots. I shot off maybe thirty of these and even went to get my macro camera. There were a few workable out of the A99.

Thanks to the butterfly who stayed in there while I attempted this.

I did manage to finish some song lyrics today.
