Not a whole lot of creativity on my part today. Just a picture of my kitchen table. Today was all about getting the shot for the day quickly. Quick, quick, quick! I tell myself that if I'm going to do this for 365 days some days it is going to have to be about quick, yes? So instead of devoting time to finding something interesting (to me) to shoot, I took took a nap with my dogs instead. And it was gooooooood.

With just two of us, I seldom prepare any festive looking food. I picked up a small cheese and fruit platter at the grocery store this morning along with a box of crackers, a bottle of sparkling cider and a half-price balloon; now we are set for snacks this New Year's Eve.

The name of this house is Villa Lugnet, where "lugnet" means calmness in Swedish. And you can indeed feel the calmness of past times in this kitchen that has barely been modernized since 1936.

I wanted to share just a few more shots of the changes to the look of rooms in our house. Just a few more, I promise!

The major change to the dining area, is that I packed away ALL my antique pink roses china!

I've been thinking about doing it for a while now - I just wasn't sure if I really wanted to!

But they are still here - just waiting for the next time my taste changes. ;-)

I replaced them with another collection - you didn't think I would give up ALL my collections, did you?

This is a mish-mash of white and cream pottery, ceramic, and milk glass pieces - some vintage, some not. Just a bunch of tchotchkes, actually, but since they are all white or cream, I'm calling them a "collection"

We moved the console table that was against the wall into the entry way and added two mis-matched chairs. There's a new woven jute rug, and my son Patrick is going to help me hang curtains this weekend.

So that will do it...except... I want a round table and chairs and a new hanging light fixture... sigh, I guess I need to start haunting Craigslist again. LOL!

....like today. Cyclone Thane to reach Tamilnadu by friday morning.

I know nothing about this dining room except that (a) it exists in a luxury condo in "The Heights" (Brooklyn?), (b) it was designed by Coburn Architecture, and (c) I love it.

We do like food. We're not religious, but if there's one thing in our family that comes close to holiness--it's food. It's not the strickt restrictive kind of religion, it's the feast / joy / togetherness kind of religion. We almost never eat any meal alone, and often have friends for lunch or dinner. We seldomly have a fancy table (it distracts from the food!), but we do like a colourful table.

six best friends to lunch on a cold, wet Sunday

I love this dining table—it reminds me of John Reeves's 'Louis' tables—and it's so affordable! The Domino editors painted the Pier 1 piece (and its drop-in leaf) off-white to highlight the arabesques of its scalloped edges and cabriole legs. An elaborate crystal chandelier ups the fanciness—but not the bottom line.

All my bookshelves are full of books and there isn't any space in the house to add more – but I still keep buying more books so they end up on the dining table. Happily, there's still enough room for me to eat my meals but I need to get a bit more organised.
