I love the colors and materials in Claire Forlani's dining room, designed by Estee Stanley. The Los Angeles house was originally outfitted with terra-cotta tile floors, but the burnt-orange color didn't complement the new decor, so Stanley stained the tiles darker with a special glaze treatment. The delicate shell chandelier adds a feminine touch.

A dining table at a wedding.

The Portland dining room of a Domino magazine reader. I love the mix of the modern/traditional, white/dark, and sinuous/square.

oh the places we go, from our dining table.

With just two of us, I seldom prepare any festive looking food. I picked up a small cheese and fruit platter at the grocery store this morning along with a box of crackers, a bottle of sparkling cider and a half-price balloon; now we are set for snacks this New Year's Eve.

For the All New Scavenger Hunt #4 - Festive food.

Sitting at home enjoying supper, I was staring at my meal and found myself attracted by the colours (naturally!) and the shadows from the low sun shining onto the table. So I grabbed my camera and then ... - JW

I fell in love with this dining table set the first time I laid eyes on it. It's stamped March of 1951 on the bottom and is made by Meier and Pohlmann Furniture Co.

The hutch in the background (full of Pyrex) is also mid-century. I painted it aqua and white.

There's a terrific mix of woods and neutrals in this Ohio farmhouse dining room. Homeowner and interior designer Kevin Reiner rescued the 10-foot harvest table from an old general store. He peeled off its linoleum surface to reveal the wood beneath, and then finished it with a light coat of wax.

This almost-square dining room began cut off from the kitchen and living room, so in the 2014-2015 whole house remodel, the entire space was opened up. A pair of doors opening into the dining area came down to be replaced by plantation shutters. The front and back walls of the kitchen were replaced with cased openings, allowing for the 42" high bar with room for two people to dine, shown above, a window seat with heavy-duty storage beneath. And while I wanted IKEA cabinets, my dear Bill wanted custom, which is what he got.

The cozy feeling in the space was enhanced by installing a display "cove" around the room, and adding LED rope lighting for intimacy Everything you see was not there before, including the wide plank ash hardwood flooring. I put the table together and painted it. Love the minimalist ghost chairs, and two teak benches. Countertops are quartz Silestone "Stellar Snow". Antibacterial, heat tolerant, and do not require sealing at all, whereas granite and marble are a bitch to maintain.

Please note: I have a palm-bladed ceiling fan to replace the light fixture, soon as I can allow someone to enter. I am unstable on ladders these days.

We had lunch at this fabulous ancestral home-turned-restaurant yesterday. Each table had its own little bell for calling your personal server. We didn't have to use ours though because, apart from getting our food, she was in the room with the us the entire time.

I'm salivating: What a perfect balance between classic architectural details (egg-and-dart molding, wainscoting, that parquet floor) and modern touches (the X dining table, benches, and colorful wing chair; that over-sized pendant). The drapes and raffia Roman shades warm things up, too -- and those butter-colored walls are just lovely.

Description: This classic contemporary / mid-century modern dining table is crafted from solid black walnut and finished in a beautiful hand-rubbed oil finish. The tapered legs are proportioned perfectly, and angled outward, which is one to give this table its unique character.

The tabletop is 1 1/8” thick and the solid walnut.

After being meticulously sanded and inspected, a seven coat hand-rubbed oil finish is applied and the results are stunning.

Every detail is worked on this piece to create a true modern classic.
