This is where we ate the dinner I prepared consisting of filet mignon, sauteed mushrooms with brandy cream sauce and a baked potato. Mary Pat provided a delicious Cabernet to accompany the meal.

The antique pedestal table was my grandmothers and the mid-century chairs are a recent find from the thrift store. The chairs' matching table has a broken leg and resides in our attic. The framed photograph is a Bobby orig. and the chandelier is from IKEA.

Mt. Vernon is the estate where George Washington lived (when not off at war or leading the country), died, and is buried. He died in the bedroom upstairs (which, during the pandemic, they don't allow you to see -- no tours run upstairs -- but, you see parts of the house you otherwise wouldn't).
He died here in 1799 and was originally buried in a small vault near the Potomac River, but had written into his will that he wanted a larger vault built...and was eventually interred there in 1832. It's nearer to the unmarked slave cemetery.
The plantation is nice to take a stroll. If you walk from the grave downhill to the river, you will also run into some historic structures (slave quarters, "innovative barn," etc.
There are also some structures near the main house like the kitchen, a garage, and other buildings.
The estate also has a subterranean museum that wrestles with Washington's relationship with slavery.
Just to walk around the grounds (without a tour of the house) costs a little over $20, so it's a bit expensive -- and not too easy to reach unless you have private transportation -- but, it's definitely worth seeing once (or twice, in my case).
