Notice that this is a photoshoped image, bringing together parts of two separate pictures. These 2 originals were taken in a high-speed burst, so they are only tenths of second apart. But the stares of hunter & victim are the best in separated images, so I put them together. It's just a small cheat, but it's fair to show it for the record. Here are the original images: flic.kr/p/EWGYeq
LIKE A lightning, chaos breaks loose in the marshlands. All birds fly away, a little egret (egretta garzetta) among them. But up from above attacks a northern goshawk (accipiter gentilis). I can't remember the details, all was so swift, but the images give us the clues. The egret was hit by the goshawk mid-flight, with claws or beak, in the neck. Then it plumeted to the marsh; the attacker made a close u-turn while mantaining visual contact with its prey, and the closed in for the kill. With its claws the goshawk submerged the bloodied egret in the water till it drawn, and then proceded to eat.
Here you could see the ending of this one-sided fight:
Look at the glacial stare of the attacker, calculating the exact position of its prize, and how uses the right wing alula to turn sharply.

I took my D300 out of retirement today after several years of not being used. It was amazing to see how slowly it focused and how slow was the continuous shooting (especially as compared to the D5). Even when high ISO and dinamic range are not it’s forte, it produced what I would call decent pictures (or better than what I was expecting). Not bad for a 12 year old camera.

My flickr account is one year old today. Thank you Everyone for watching!
A flickr albumom ma ünnepli első születésnapját. Köszönöm Mindenkinek az eddigi bíztatást!
Some people kept asking me about my last upload. Where, how I took it. I took it at my gramma's, the wall is in one of the "abandoned rooms".
She's lived in that place there's been around 50 years or more, along with her husband and 10 children. It's a pretty big house, but when I come to think of it, not big enough for 12 people!
There's only one son living with her now, mostly for her safety reasons. On December 2007 she got really really sick, almost died, due to post-surgery infection. Now she's ok, though weak and saying stupid things like: "I'm working overtime", "I want to go", "I'm just waiting", things like that.
When I go to her house, I usually take photos of her as well... she's such a poser! :P And everytime she says: "you're taking the old woman's last photo"... still it's clear that she's loving the atention.
There are some other "abandoned" rooms, and in one of them I took some self-portraits that I'm really excited with, but as I said, I want to upload most of my older shots first.
That photo was taken around sunset time, 1/25 sec, iso 100, f/4.5.
This photo - Clouds Waltz - was taken the same day as "Storm is coming", and is the 3rd of 3 photos I ever edited on photomatix, so I guess it's considered an HDR.
As I write this, someone I really care about is at the hospital, at intensive care unit. I'll upload this and after lunch I'll spend the afternoon at the hospital. I'm a pile of emotions right now.
One last thing, as I promised to say, in the swim team photo I showed within the comments of the upload prior to this, going down, in the second row, I'm the 4th.

I do enjoy to shot sparrows, they have beautiful colors, they get in dinamic positions and they are quite expressive. On the other hand, they are easy to find and in my opinion neglected by many. I really like this one, the light and the background combined with the sparrow colors, gave an harmonious result and highlight the bird. Hope that you enjoy too.
