Wolf Creek is known for its trout lilies, Erythronium umbilicatum. It may very well have the densest population in the world. The forest is carpeted as far as the eye can see. Trout lilies are rare in this area, and just below the state line in Florida, they are endangered.
Sadly, this location is not safe from development. The owners are selling it, and although it's at a reduced price and the state has given a grant for half the price, the funds are still short. There's still a move to save it, but if another $50,000 isn't raised by April 1, 2009, this natural site may disappear, along with all the wonderful plant life.
