2024-06-11 -- In the annual Alberti: Architecture for Young People summer program, students in grades 4-8 from across the St. Louis region come to campus for a hands-on experience tackling 2- and 3-dimensional problems in architectural design, with an eye toward the greater environment. They completed a series projects in studio classes, took field trips, learned from local practitioners, and exhibited their work in a final exhibition on June 28.

A computer illustration to advertise for the web design alias 'Artist DigitalWorks' - More of a "see if I could do it" project.
Created the water texture completely from scratch using the computer and no base to build from. I enjoyed working on this and think it turned out well.
2024-05-11 -- Each May during WashU commencement weekend, the College of Architecture and Graduate School of Architecture & Urban Design host the year-end exhibition (Y.E.S.) of graduate and undergraduate work. Y.E.S. is curated by students, who submit proposals in the fall and are selected by the exhibitions committee. The winning teams receive a monetary prize and a budget to mount the exhibition.
Cody Heller, MArch ’24, won the graduate competition with his intriguing box-within-a-box exhibition design. Jiahe Jin, BS ’25; Nuo Xu, BS ’26; and Yiwei Shi, BS ’26 won the undergraduate competition for their “Projected Folds” proposal.

2024-02-19 -- Asst. professor Seth Denizen led a workshop on urban soils along with Ryder Anderson (USDA) and Dr. Christine Siebe (UNAM). Their research relates to water management in St. Louis as climate change increases pressure on the city's sewer system. The team pulled soil core samples from a lot in south city, then ran analysis under Dr. Siebe’s guidance back on campus.

Panel discussions addressed the creative design process and machine-augmented vision, focusing on understanding how perspective gained from AI can impact and influence creative practices.

2024-04-12 -- The recent interactive UnConference, "The Stories We Carry: Stewarding Identity Through Process," fostered collaboration on design approaches that integrate personal narratives. The event focused on the role of personal identity in the design process and aimed to uncover how designers’ backgrounds influence their work.
Many thanks to guest speakers Kareem Collie, Penina Acayo Laker, and Quinlin B. Messenger, along with WashU hosts including the College of Architecture, Office for Socially Engaged Practice, Center for Humanities, and the Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity, and Equity.

2023-07-13 -- High school students interested in art, architecture, and design spent several weeks on WashU's campus learning about their chosen disciplines, experiencing campus life, and seeing the sights of St. Louis. Students create a body of work to build out their portfolios for college applications. The program culminates with final reviews and an exhibition.

2023-04-03 -- Derek Hoeferlin and Kotchakorn Voraakhom hosted an interactive panel and workshop on global landscape architecture challenges in the Mekong, Mississippi, and Rhine river basins on April 3 at the Pulitzer Arts Foundation. The event marks the release of Hoeferlin's book, "Way Beyond Bigness: The Need for Watershed Architecture."
