I was walking on a carpet of fallen leaves near a creek when I came up with the idea for this image. What if this carpet of leaves was to flow down the stream?. The biggest challenge was looking through my images trying to find a stream small enough to incorporate the leaves without loosing proportion and or definition (suitable for a closeup shot); then add a rock with water droplets flying into the air to cover a blurred area of the original image of the water flow, a few more leaves on the surface and rocks, and so on...(The camera settings listed belong to the stream image only)

By early August, wild Alaskan blueberries will be ready for picking. In fact, all of Alaska's wild berries will be harvested in August. As residents wander through the forests and hillsides in search of their favorite berries - the bears are doing the same thing. Also sharing the forest at the same time, are hunters who want to harvest their winters meat.

When you put the whole scene together - you picture; folks with buckets bending over the forest floor picking berries, as bears tiptoe by wanting their share of the fruit, and hunters with guns at the ready, in search of wild game. Now what could possibly go wrong? LOL

Happy picking and hunting to all. May your freezers be filled with Alaska's bounty.

My favorite veggie. I am trying to grow some in my hydroponic AeroGarden - wish me luck.

I love the lush forests in southeast Alaska. There are some species of Sitka spruce and Western hemlock that are over 800 years old. And it’s not just the largest national forest in America, it’s also the world’s largest remaining temperate rainforest. Another nickname this mighty forest has earned is the “Amazon of America.” Home to countless species of wildlife from bears, to bald eagles, and whales off the coast, this area is rich with animal, marine, and plant life. The Tongass National Forest is one of the most beautiful old growth forests left on the planet - and I am so grateful that Doc and I were able to spend six years living and playing in such beautiful surroundings.

Wildflowers grow prolifically along Alaska's roadside's each summer. There are miles upon miles of pink, purple, and yellow flowers.

This little bouquet popped up at the end of our driveway, along with many other varieties. After our long cold winter - it is so wonderful to see color again.

We still have two feet of snow on the ground - but beneath all of that snow - I can hear the wildflowers stirring.

During the winter in the far north, the landscape isn't entirely white. Blue shadows skip across the landscape settling into every nook and cranny.
