After visiting Mount Fuji, my group was then taken across lake Ashi on a "Pirate Ship" and this man was employed as the "pirate Captain". The local tourist seemed to love the concept.

Lake Ashi (芦ノ湖 Ashi-no-ko), or Hakone Lake, Ashinoko Lake, is a scenic lake in the Hakone area of Kanagawa Prefecture in Honshū, Japan. It is a crater lake that lies along the southwest wall of the caldera of Mount Hakone, a complex volcano. The lake is known for its views of Mt. Fuji and its numerous hot springs. A number of pleasure boats and ferries traverse the lake, providing scenic views for tourists and passengers. Several of the boats are full-scale replicas of man-of-war pirate ships.

The name means "lake of reeds" in Japanese: 芦 (ashi) is "reed", and 湖 (ko) is "lake".

This is a really cheap digital camera (possibly made by Premier?) that nicely illustrates some of the basic components. It's from our article about how digital cameras work. I've labelled a few of the key parts with notes.

Construction on the ship began in July 2007, announced by then Defence Secretary Des Browne the budget was £4,085 million.

So far the 280m long carrier cannot deploy planes but will undergo flying trials next year.
