My little man, Shorty, Going after a gopher hole. Check out all that dirt action!
A female Field Digger Wasp (Mellinus arvensis) by her nest burrow in our Staffordshire garden. We have very sandy soil which they prefer.
The wasps capture various fly species which they paralyse with a sting and then provision the nest. The wasp larvae feed on the paralysed flies.
A revisit to a digger I shot last year, decided to go a bit OTT this time!
2 frames, 1 for the lighting on the digger, a shaftless v24 for the colour and a led glowstick for the firey wheels, second frame for the big wool burn. What you dont see is me having to stomp out some grass that had started to sizzle on the left!

The Welsh name for a JCB digger. This one is dredging a ditch between the sea wall and the beach in an attempt to prevent anymore sand from being blown onto the footpath and the main road.
One of my favourite pubs in Edinburgh, The Athletic Arms officially, as it says above the door, but universally known to everyone as Diggers - because it was the watering hole of the grave diggers from the old cemetery across the road.
The name given to the soldiers of Australia and New Zealand , a term signifying mateship or comradeship through adversity though times of war . The term Diggers really came of age from the first World War , given to those brave young men who found themselves on the slopes of Gallipoli having had to dig in their protective trenches to fight the Turks 101 years ago ..
ANZAC Day . Brisbane
Short-billed dowitcher digging n the mud. It is the only bird I know that digs for food in water with open eyes. Simply amazing!
Digger wasps look a lot meaner than they really are. Not saying they don't sting if provoked, but they're basically not interested in people. They sure do love milkweed, though!
Red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) searching for food under the cover of fallen leaves.
Wiewiórka (Sciurus vulgaris) szukająca jedzenia pod pokrywą liści.
Great Golden Digger Wasp (Sphex ichneumoneus) - Penny Lake Preserve, Boothbay Harbor, Maine
Great Golden (a.k.a. Big and scary!)
But very industrious so she didn't pay much attention to me,
so long as I kept outa her way!
Goldie's still hard at work, with 5 or 6 tunnels filled and still digging more!

took a trip out to an old airfield on the other side of the country which has become a graveyard for old diggers and trucks. i could see myself being there for hours on end without getting bored as there is so much there...

This species of Digger Bee (see Gerry's comment below) is common in my part of S Korea at this time of year. It makes a loud high-pitched buzz. This is the first time I've seen one with bright blue pollen. I love the huge eyes and the pointed proboscis which it levers through nearly 180 degrees to delve into the flower.
