On how I managed to diffuse a potentially explosive situation.
I was sat on a bench approximately 50 metres across from this family and noticed their reflections in the puddle. I took about five or six shots and noticed with each one the boy with his hands in his pockets became more and more agitated.
He eventually marched over to me and demanded to know why I was taking photographs of his family.
I smiled politely and assured him I wasn't taking photographs of his family, I was taking photographs of the puddle.
He thought for a moment, I could see he was in a mucking fuddle, then he said, Oh, that's alright then and calmly walked away.
As did I before the penny dropped!
today a diffuser screen was added to my growing kit! So I had to use it today! The flasgun is hiding behind the wine , and both hide behind the screen.....now I can drink the wine...TGIF!! Have a wonderful weekend everyone :))
....I should have said "Flashgun" but I guess I got thirsty and drank that glass?!
This time during the exposure applied some diffused light painting from off to the side.
Felt great to be out in the night and nature. Had my bear spray handy.

Another photo of Twenty mile river. The high clouds diffused the light from Anchorage and the northern lights. The milky way was peeking through the last bit of clear sky.

Picromerus bidens is a large (12 to 13.5 mm long) and distinctive predatory shieldbug. It shows a thick rostrum directed away from head. Body colour is quite variable, generally light to dark brown or bluish, with red-brown antennae and legs and two unmistakable thorn-like brown projections on the sides of the pronotum (hence the species name bidens, meaning "with two teeth"). Front femurs are armed with a ventral spine distally. The early instar nymphs are commonly reddish, while the final instar nymphs are greyish black, with banded antennae and legs.
Both adults and nymphs of the spiny shieldbugs are predatory, feeding on the larvae of other insects, especially on leaf bugs, beetles, aphids and caterpillars. The choice of the prey depend on the season and availability of food. However both adults and nymphs also suck sap from plants. The female lays eggs on tree trunks and leaves. In the spring the larvae hatch, growing to the adult bugs after five moultings. Nymphs become adults by July or August and adults can be found until November. This species usually overwinters as eggs and less frequently as nymphs.
I came across a diffuser filter in the loft that I've had for many years and forgotten about, so just had to have a play.

Selection of Gourds. The Angel Gallery in Broseley (near Ironbridge), Shropshire, has kindly agreed to exhibit a selection of my limited-edition still-life images. I'm pleased with this as it's a lovely gallery and they haven't exhibited photography before.
My still-life images are all light-painted with diffused torchlight. Each element of the composition is illuminated separately and the images are then all blended together.
