Due to financial difficulties, a sign of the times really, my favorite manager at my work had to make an emergency move out of the state to his girlfriend's mother's place in North Carolina just yesterday, uprooting the two of them and their son. While he'd never admit it, he was a real big brother figure at my job: always looking out for a lot of us, especially me, and going out of his way to just be helpful & caring. He was well loved by the customers too, as two of them brought in this big expensive sheet cake as a going away present to him.

On Friday, Kitty had her cataract op. She has been reluctant to have it done but, with the ever increasing difficulty to read (and she was a very avid reader) she finally decided to take the plunge.
We were in the hospital some 6 1/2 hours, and the procedure itself - which should have taken about 25' - took more than an hour. "A bit of a rock" said the charming lady doctor referring to the hardened lens that she removed.
The red mark above was there to ensure that there is no confusion as to which eye needed the surgery.
In fact, what impressed me most was the extreme care that was taken to ensure that everything was checked and treble checked at each stage.
This brought back unhappy memories too. When my Mother had her cataract operation some six years ago, they messed her up for good. They did not give her enough drops to achieve full dilation and consequently, the 'surgeon' (damn his soul wherever he is) did not have enough of a view to properly remove her lens, but in spite of knowing this, he proceeded anyway. A second operation followed, but her sight could not be restored.
Am pleased to say in Kitty's case all seems to have gone quite well.
