The magic of Dale Chihuly's garden was displaced at Biennale 2009 in Venice

Dale Chihuly

(born September 20, 1941) is an American glass sculptor and entrepreneur. His works are considered to possess outstanding artistic merit in the field of blown glass, "moving it into the realm of large-scale sculpture." The technical difficulties of working with glass forms are considerable, yet Chihuly uses it as the primary medium for installations and environmental artwork.

The Moon, Biafra, a murderous earthquake, a campaign against pollution, a six-day war, a Bay of Pigs, the death of a Mao—mere Christmas parties one and all, with the great thoughtless void suddenly wreathed in flowers, and tooting its two-penny whistle. For a little while no one is bored, which is something at least.

Difficulty Rating 3 1/2 on Rock Wheelers scale of 1-5. We did not take this route!

I was having difficulties when trying to capture this dude. It was flying up and down (like a yo-yo) from a flower at very fast speed. With tall trees above limiting the sunlights, I could only push up the ISO inorder to increase the shutter speed. This is one of the few successful attempts. will show the rest later.

P.S. this bee is quite tiny.

I've had some difficulty in pinning the chassis number down for this particular car, the closest I can feasibly get to (and may still be wrong) is S/N 0879GT. **Update: its S/N 0773GT**

S/N 0879GT listed as a Ferrari 250 GT LWB Berlinetta Scaglietti TdF in maroon with a black stripe, with three louvres,

covered headlights and high alloy decoration in the door (57 style).

If this is the car, it was registered to Wolfgang Seidel in Bologna in 1958 (not 1957) so not entirely sure its the same car. Regardless, its a lovely looking 250 TdF, especially from this front on angle.

Amiakhum is my second most favorite waterfall in the whole of the country. It is located deep within the hills. Roughtly a day and half walk away from Remakri town. The waterfall is basically a huge cascade that falls into a different level of the river. It is really worth it staying there overnight if you have a moon up ahead of you. It was a magical experience we had. The trail is neither the toughest nor beginner in difficulty wise. Recommended if one has passion for waterfalls and trekking.

HOW LONG WILL I LOVE YOU by ELLIE GOULDING

I LEAVE OUT ALL DESIRE

As I stand amid the poppies and smell their sweet perfume

I know that I am leaving here to find a land where I belong

I am knee deep dancing in the wind

that blows me who knows where

but one thing that I'm certain of is I'll leave without a care

there is nothing left to keep me here except this field of dreams

but I need to find another world to replace the red with cream

too much vivid colour has drained me of all reason

I need to feel snow underfoot; I need another season

red the colour of my heart; passionate; sincere

but oh so easily broken and drowned with all my tears

a perfect soul; does it really exist; I have no way of knowing

the wind's impatient just like me; I shrug and keep on going

I pack a suitcase with my life and leave out all desire

there's room enough to fill one day if someone lights my fire

my steps are lighter as though I fly above the scarlet land

where once my soul was tethered to a gentle caring man

where is he now I wonder briefly but it's just a fleeting thought

he wasn't always gentle as the time that followed taught

why do we start as one thing and let ourselves be shaped

by life and love and everything that passed by us and scraped

another scar; a pack of lies; broken bones as fragile as a bird's

bleached and leached

by the harshness of someone's scorching words

the sea rises up to claim me;

the salt-laden air cauterises my wounds

but the scars inside me will remain

long after my love for him has been consumed

I close my eyes and dare to dream;

a world with pastel colours; predominantly cream

but maybe with pure white of snow;

of graceful swans and angels wings

somewhere where time has no other meaning

than the soft beating of my heart

rhythmic; gentle like butterflies wings

and the whispered words of Descartes ...

I found this week's MacroMonday theme quite difficult - probably lots of others did to? Unless I'm just a Duncy-Deedle of course, which is very possible!

Tried moving camera about but as my hand is in support at the moment, it wasn't good. But my difficulty stemmed more from the 'Macro' angle ...how to get movement within the Macro size.

I found the gallery of examples very useful though and decided I'd best look for something I could set in motion.

I'd bought a colourful Slinky a while ago with photography in mind but never got round to it and so it came into its own for me today. The slinky is just short of 3" across and I stretched it and let it spring back on itself a few times , plus I did a bit of strategic cropping afterwards.

Genesis is alpha, Apocalypse omega. But Hebrews is the hinge that joins the other two together. Genesis says that we began in a swamp teeming with life, but that something went vastly wrong one evening at dinner. Apocalypse says that the difficulty was finally resolved into something called the Banquet of the Lamb. Hebrews tell how the resolution was accomplished, not in an orchard set in pleasant countryside but in a butcher shop located in the city's center. The World's story from beginning to end pivots upon this resolution, a resolution the faint of heart, the fastidious, and the squeamish find hard to bear.

From Wikipedia:

Hurricane Ridge is a mountainous area in Washington's Olympic National Park. Approximately 18 miles (29 km) by road from Port Angeles, the ridge is open to hiking, skiing, and snowboarding and is one of the two most visited sites in the national park (along with the Hoh Rain Forest Visitor Center).

At an elevation of 5,242 feet (1,598 m), Hurricane Ridge is a year-round destination. In summer, visitors come for views of the Olympic Mountains, as well as for hiking. During the winter months the small, family oriented Hurricane Ridge Ski and Snowboard Area offers lift-serviced downhill skiing and snowboarding.

The Olympic National Park can be viewed from the Hurricane Ridge viewpoint. The road leading west from the Hurricane Ridge visitor center has a number of picnic areas and trail heads. A paved trail called the Hurricane hill trail is about 1.6 miles (2.6 km) long (one-way) with an elevation gain of about 700 feet (200 m). It is not uncommon to find snow on the trails even as late as July. Several other dirt trails of varying distances and difficulty levels branch off of the Hurricane hill trail. The picnic areas are open only in the summer, and have restrooms, water and paved access to picnic tables.

The Hurricane Ridge visitors center offers several conveniences, including an information desk, gift-shop, restrooms, and a snack bar. The exhibits in the visitor center are open year-round, but limited to Friday through Sunday during the winter months.

Hurricane Ridge is named for its intense gales and winds. The weather in the Olympic Mountains is unpredictable, and visitors should be prepared for snow at any time of year. The area receives 400 inches (10,000 mm) of snowfall annually

Real-world drama, served in the comfort of home by that whore called Mass Media, only stirs up the void where Western opinion has long been submerged. Someone drools at a current event, and mistakes his drivel for meaningful thought. Still, let’s not be too quick to spit our scorn its way. Empty drivel indeed, but it shows nonetheless how reading the papers or watching the news can provoke at least the appearance of thinking. Like Pavlov’s dog, whose slobber revealed the mechanics of instinct.

Whenever people suffered the difficulty in real life, they either faced the challenge with courage or hided themselves in their secret garden temporarily, made their sophicated thoughts within, and then find way to breakthrough again.

Have you ever own your secret garden ? It could be a real place in the world , or just a mental place at your mind, which made yourself feel safe & help you calm down from the suddently sufferings in real life.

Try to create the secret garden through the overlayering composition, it can be a place mixed with variable emotions, happiness, sorrow, hate, sadness, peaceful etc, not necesarry a subjective garden in vision, maybe just a private corner under the tree, on the meadow, or even the space between the leaves & air.. tell me how you think about your secret garden.

The Islay station was first established at Port Askaig in 1934 but owing to manning difficulties the lifeboat was transferred to Port Ellen in 1947. In 1948 the station was re-established at Port Askaig and was renamed Islay.

the difficulty with a 10mm DX is to get the picture straight and not dropping or going up to the right, so it takes many pictures before getting a straight or almost straight line, but I see that many flickerers don't mind and just put the first pic they get and that's all, I give extreme care to proportions , so my pictures are never, except on rare occasions, just snapshots , in this case I chose this picture because of the gull and it is almost at the right level of manual correction of distortion, anyway it is not easy to use such extreme lenses , above all with a full frame camera and a lens that is not full frame. I hope the picture will be appreciated for the movement that's inside it

I found the difficulty with the them was not being able to use the keyhole as a viewpoint (showing something the other side) or being able to show a key in the lock. Those two requirements made it rather tricky to produce something different. How to make just the keyhole appear interesting? My effort is not too marvelous - I tried to concentrate on the texture and colour. The theme was more difficult that I thought at first. A very few have taken some very original shots. Well done to them!

I am having difficulty uploading today. In fact I was surprised that the last photo I tried to upload is in my photostream since I gave up and left Flickr after it timed out which evidently means it didn't time out even though I got the message that it did. We will see if this one will upload. Went directly to the "Bad, bad panda! Come on. We want photos" page but uploaded anyway.

Photographed in my front yard, Yakima County, Washington. Yesterday more than 60 American Robins showed up here at my home and some of them were in my Crabapple Trees eating the berries. Although there are fewer robins here today (Feb, 6) more of them are eating the crabapples and some are eating Mountain Ash fruit. California Quail are also eating Crabapples. It was very cold this morning and will likely remain below freezing all day even with sunshine. With 12 inches of snow on the ground the birds are eating anything they can find.

Due to the unknown factor of the water-level and navigation difficulties I decided against taking my Fuji X-T1 along. Unfortunately that means less image quality and some skies blown out because LCD's are no longer usable for me outdoors without glasses. This one was photographed with my old FZ35.

I couldn't find any information of previous attempts to paddle this river system and I doubt many have, as the water level is quite low. This means dragging the boat behind for long stretches, climbing over numerous log jams and beaver dams, and diving under overhanging brush and sweepers. There were some really bad obstructions in this section, but the creeks scenery changes a lot and is quite pleasant.

So often color gets caught up in color, and it becomes merely decorative. Some photographers use it brilliantly to make visual statements combining color and content; otherwise it is empty :-)

With the mist, nature seems to have difficulty to wake up

I was fortunate enough to catch Jimmy "Duck" Holmes at the 2017 Juke Joint Festival in Clarksdale, Mississippi. He had difficulty keeping his guitar in tune due to the heat and humidity. An artist totally immersed in his music.

A tiny parasitic wasp, photographed (with difficulty) while she sniffed around one of my solitary bee observation boxes. She's such a lovely colour, but definitely has a mischievous look about her. I think she could be Monodontomerus sp. (although I didn't get a clear enough shot of her hind leg, which would have a distinct single tooth, although I could see a hint of one in one of my images ... but now I know where to focus my camera next time!). If she is Monodontomerus, then I'm thinking possibly M. obscurus, as this seems to be the only species recorded in the limited places I've thought to check. Very grateful for any help if anyone is able to confirm or correct the ID.

I've always had great difficulty getting up early, thats why don't I even try! It's a lot more fun to sleep late and then stand around in the bathroom and do nonsense forever

After a very brief visit with Baron and having difficulty in determination my direction for the week, it's back to wildflowers, but preferably pretty simple, that is pretty and simple.

Let me start with this Carpobrotus edulis endemic to South Africa as are all ice plants. I really like this particular example: single blossom with multiple stems all 'round. Plain and simple.

Carpobrotus edulis is a ground-creeping plant with succulent leaves in the genus Carpobrotus, native to South Africa. Its common names include hottentot-fig, sour fig, ice plant or highway ice plant. Living in California where ice plants are one of the most popular plants planted by the state along many highways, and where this species has become naturalized, I understand "highway ice plant," but finding the basis for the other names ... that may take some time.

Carpobrotus edulis is a creeping, mat-forming succulent species. It grows year round, with individual shoot segments growing more than 1 m (3 ft) per year. It can grow to at least 50 m (165 ft) in diameter. The leaves - remember this is a succulent - are only very slightly curved and have serrated sides near the tips.

The yellow or light pink flowers are produced from April to October, and range from 6.4 to 15.2 centimetres (2+1⁄2 to 6 inches) in diameter. Two of the calyx lobes are longer, extending further than the petals. They open in the morning in bright sunlight and close at night. On one rare really overcast day at the Marina, I saw one open when I arrived at 9:30 and close at noon, out to lunch so to speak.

The fruit is multi-chambered, ripening from green to yellow. The aha! moment has come: The species is a member of the fig-marigold family, Aizoaceae, one of about 30 species in the genus Carpobrotus.

But hottentot? Those who know more about South Africa may find a clue here: The sour fig grows on coastal and inland slopes in South Africa from Namaqualand in the Northern Cape through the Western Cape to the Eastern Cape. It is often seen as a pioneer on disturbed sites.

Taylor Lake, Eldon, Alberta, Canada

This perhaps is the longest hike I’ve had this year – 26 kilometers for the round trip. The entire way up takes lots of uphill, but the technical difficulty is moderate. The payoff at the end is great with this crystal clear lake.

I have difficulty distinguishing between Cassiar and Slate-colored. Based on Eric's comment and another review of distinguishing characteristics Cassiar and Slate-colored and recent review at ebird this is a"Dark-eyed Junco (cismontanus) Junco hyemalis cismontanus." The quotes are for how Cassiar are listed at ebird. I don't see the word "Cassiar" in a recent listing by ebird reviewer Ryan Merrill. Also at ebird Slate-colored is listed as "Dark-eyed Junco (Slate-colored/cismontanus) Junco hyemalis hyemalis/carolinensis/cismontanus." See here: ebird.org/pnw/view/checklist/S51953623

I listed this bird as Slate-colored at ebird but have update to Cassiar with this photo and will wait to see if a reviewer wants to change it. My checklist: ebird.org/view/checklist/S52009780

A menhaden (lower right) jumps out of the water to gain a better view of the acrobatic routine of a fishing Green Heron on Horsepen Bayou.

We need in our inhabiting of the world to take very seriously the fact that the world resists being controlled and digested by human subjects. We repeatedly act as if control and digestion were the only things that mattered; and this of course explains a lot about the ecological crisis that we currently face. But if we return to the centrality of time and difficulty and embodied labour, there is really no way round grasping the fact that we as bodies belong in a world where bodily processes connect us to a material world to which we are not superior. This in itself imposes on us a more patient, a more attentive, perhaps even more ‘reverent’ approach to the environment we live in. There’s no great novelty in making the point, but it may as well be made: how we think knowledge works affects how we approach our environment.
