Scan from a slide. Dublin. November 8th 1991.

With its registration almost obscured by soot, Alitalia's DC-9-32 I-DIBC is pictured in Terminal 2 at London's Heathrow Airport on May 28th 1974. It later became Northwest Airlines N608NW. The Lufthansa 737-130 D-ABEH beside it is notable in that it was only the 10th 737 built. A departing Pan Am 747 completes the scene.

building owner detroit international bridge company representative claims "didn't know" asbestos was in this decades old abandoned eyesore (despite having asbestos company visually survey it months prior), but had teenage volunteers and untrained dibc employees cleanup tons of contaminated debris anyway. michigan epa and osha inspectors subsequently found evidence of asbestos and other toxic materials at the site. here's a link to an online osha citation summary page for this incident:

www.osha.gov/pls/imis/establishment.inspection_detail?id=...

interesting, especially since the building was being called "pre-asbestos" and the debris was being called "DIRT" by individuals involved at the cleanup event. exactly how do piles of "dirt" with insulated pipes running through it wind up on tile floors in the middle of the building anyway? what do you think that deteriorated fibrous stuff is being shoveled from around those old pipes?

by the way, where is all the safety gear for these volunteer workers? tennis shoes? shorts? no safety glasses? no protective coveralls? no hard hats? no dust controls? no dust masks or filtered respirators?

terribly sad to think that volunteers' health (& dibc employees) were put at such risk for the rest of their lives, and that penalties amount to a few thousand dollars. literally chump change to a greedy billionaire and thoughtless corporation. mohyi and stamper thought this would be a great pr stunt?

This is a Kodachrome slide; it was scanned with an Epson Pro V750, and then finished with minor post processing via Photoshop.

The original comes from my own slide collection which I have photographed and/or otherwise acquired during the past forty years.

They are posted here simply to share a part of airline & airliner history for people who are interested.

remember when matty maroun's detroit international bridge company (dibc) used innocent children volunteers to remove asbestos contamination at michigan central station (mcs) train station in detroit ?

dibc can try to polish tarnished image by using propaganda, buying politicians, and obstructing legal process, but we know the truth.

DIBC employee meeting with a contractor

it appears that asbestos abatement and lead remediation activities at the michigan central station train depot building in detroit are not being conducted properly (right under the nose of a "sleeping" inspector?).

these so-called abatement workers appear to be wearing only single "coveralls" (double-suit required); wearing their street-clothes underneath the flimsy coveralls and inside an active "regulated" work area; electrical power-tool equipment used for contaminant removal not attached to HEPA-vacuum recovery units; one worker conducting contaminant removal while other worker is not wearing protective respirator; coveralls appear improperly modified by ripping off footings which exposes street footwear in work area; "regulated" area signage demarcations appear inadequately posted; abatement personnel do not appear to have worker exposure air monitoring devices while conducting abatement acitivities, etc. and so on...

maroun's dibc is again on the ball by using "professional" contractors; at least they're not exposing unsuspecting children volunteers this time.
