Usually photographed from the Honolulu side, this view of Diamond Head looked quite different to me - so different, in fact, that I actually asked another guest if it was Diamond Head. He assured me it was, not quite hiding a smile.

I took this shot from a seventh floor balcony at the Kahala Hotel, looking westward. The image was kind of hazy, so it was a fine candidate for Sunday sliding. I used Jixipix moku hanga, trying for a tapa/barkcloth/kapa look.

First try (and based on age, possibly the last) with capturing a total solar eclipse. Tried to capture the "Diamond Ring", the moments just before totality. I was more than happy with the results. Sorry to add to the deluge of eclipse photos that are likely out there today. Hope if you were in the right place at the right time you had a chance to enjoy it.

Thanks for viewing and have a great day!

A beautiful late afternoon hike up Diamond Head.

Oh, where are the sea diamonds going as they are lost in a variaty of blues in a contrasting ocean.

The Diamond T Company was an American automobile and truck manufacturer. They produced commercial and military trucks from 1905 until 1967.

Such windows are fairly common in Berkeley (especially compared with most towns in the US). . . a product of the romantic Arts & Crafts movement in architecture around the turn of the 20th century. It's amazing how many of these have survived, and it's not a design that is easy, or cheap, to replicate nowadays!

Happy Windows Wednesday!

When the total eclipse hit, it was completely masked by clouds. You couldn't see a damn thing for around a minute. Totality only lasted 2 and quarter minutes at my location so you can imagine how frustrating that was. Luckily, the clouds broke enough to allow for a few shots on goal. This was at the end of totality, when the sun starts to peak through again and makes the diamond ring effect. Even caught some plasma flares around the edges. Fort Worth, Texas, USA, April 2024

Glacier Lagoon is a lake that exists as a result of the melting of a glacier. Big ice blocks break off, slowly melt and drift towards the sea where they break up in small pieces and wash upon the black sand beach, looking like diamonds. Sometimes you can find massive ice blocks, other times just a handful smaller ones like this day.

Diamond Beach, Iceland

And they said it would be heaving with photographers - well don't tell anyone, but I was there all night and after about 10pm I saw nobobdy else but my travel companions.

At this time of year, it never really gets dark in Iceland. Sunset at about 11.30pm, sunrise at about 3am, and in between is a twilight which it's perfectly possible to shoot in. Which is what I did. I wasn't about to waste a moment of shooting this magical scene.

This black sand beach is situated next to Jokulsarlon, a glacial lagoon which collects icebergs as they break away from the glacier. Some will stay in the lagoon, while others head out to sea through a short waterway, before being washed up on the beach by the tide. And there they sit and melt, making a dramatic contrast against the black sand. It was mesmerising. Single blocks of ice held my attention for long periods as they slowly changed form. There was a hint of colour in the sky which teased us, and the waves were hypnotic.

I filled half a memory card with shots that night. It was unforgettable.

Single frame views of Kylemore Abbey and the Atlantic coast from the summit of Diamond Hill, County Galway, Ireland. A moderate day hike under windy conditions, the panoramic version will be uploaded next. Happy weekend to everyone.

I was waiting for the ferry from Sausalito back to San Francisco and was happy to be entertained by Diamond Dog the dachshund (sausage dog) and her friend. I found the attached on the net and various videos on You Tube -

"You’ll only encounter the soul of Sausalito when you are queuing for the ferry back to the city with the hordes of other cyclists who’ve made the same journey. There you’ll find a busker with his little Dachshund (Diamond) sitting a top his guitar and playing with the help of the dog’s legs. The guy is a character and the little sausage dog slightly aggressive! When I came home I tried to find out who he was. He is Peter Romanowsky who is a Baptist Minister and also had a run for local Marin county politics in the 90′s. Peter busks most afternoons and is worth getting to the ferry terminal early for. "

Okay it's not an actual diamond, it's a double-terminated crystal. It's referred to as a diamond because of its clarity and well formed faces. I love this little crystal because I worked really hard for it. The Herkimer diamond mines are located in Herkimer New York. Many years ago I went with my family and we worked all day with a hand tool to slam at the rocks and try to find a "diamond." It was hard work but fun when we actually discovered some crystals. This one is about a 1/4" across.

A Sunday morning HWSZT train comes to the diamond in Linton. In town, they will drop the two lead SD40-2's and then head to Switz City to work the interchange.

A bit of a blue hour shot even though it was much longer after the sunset.

This water feature was sadly shut, but managed to get a composition from outside the railings to get the viewpoint I wanted. -

It is challenge to try not to blow the highlights in the water fountain but also get the rest of the scene exposed.

This was a camera club social walk around Windsor.

The Diamond Beach is a strip of black sand belonging to the greater Breiðamerkursandur glacial plain, located by Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon on the South Coast of Iceland.

At the Diamond Beach, the icebergs which fill the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon wash up on shore, creating a stark contrast with the volcanic black sand. This beautiful display makes it a favourite location for photographers and nature lovers. Wildlife enthusiasts also frequent the site as many seals call the beach home, and it is one of the best places in the country to see orcas from the shore.

Diamond Firetails (Stagonopleura guttata), west of Guildford, central Victoria, Australia. While looking for raptors last weekend, I was really happy to find this pair of Diamond Firetails eating some grasses/seeds on the side of a small road bridge. Unfortunately, this image is an extreme crop taken in the afternoon through heat haze rising from the bitumen road, so the conditions were not ideal. However, I was very happy to see these birds which are listed as vulnerable, and capture eye contact from both birds in the one image. This is only the second time we have seen them in this area.
