Whoops. Started devouring these wild antelope ribs before I could capture their true beauty. The only way to really do that is with your mouth, though. Hot damn, so good. Plus, there is Black Sabbath & hot tea here. I'm in heaven.

No Section Of the Working Class is Safe Today ... The Monster of Globalization Will Devour Its Posterboys As Well!! Fight the Retrenchment Of Jet Airways Employees!! .
Two days ago the merger between Kingfisher and Jet Airways was touted as a necessary response to the financial crisis. Yesterday, the real implications of this merger were made clear for 1900 employees of Jet who were removed from their jobs. The explanation offered by Vijay Malaya was that Kingfisher will do whatever it takes to cut costs. Overnight, 1900 people working for Jet have been dismissed without any notice ---these include flight attendants, cockpit crew, and management personnel. Overnight, for these young men and women, the aviation industry once touted as an upcoming industry now stands at a dead end. Suddenly, they find that they have one months salary thrust in their hands and are now out on the road. Globalization holds out the promise of glamour. It dangles dreams that it is often not able to fulfil. In order to pursue these ambitions, many young people give up their exams, a stable but low-paying career, resist the pressures of family, and join these corporates. .
This is the case with thousands of young men and women, forced to put on English accent, and begin to chase these dreams. Many of the retrenched airlines employees had taken mortgages or sold their properties to join Jets training course; they have still not been told whether the company will refund this money. This is the dark reality that undercuts India Shining. It is the reality of the unorganized sector, where workers have neither permanent jobs nor any rights. Where they lack the basic security to be able to fulfil their needs and meet the requirements of their families. .
Because the aviation industry provides white-collar jobs, the reality of this exploitative situation is sometimes masked by the bubble of inflated salaries. The case is even more desperate in other sectors of the economy where contract workers do not get even basic minimum wages, aside from any other rights or facilities. The Indian Express reports that in Call centres today, the fastest growing avenue is that of debt collection. Indian employees of these call centres spend their time, donning American aliases, and spending every night calling Americans who have defaulted on their payments and insisting that they pay up. The efficiency of employees and the health of this particular industry will remain upbeat so long as there are people in the US trapped in the spiral of debt. This makes a mockery of the dreams of youth; it also makes them collude in the oppression of the US financial system. .
While the Bush administration has announced a massive bailout package for reckless investment bankers, both the Democrat and Republican Presidential candidates have pledged support for this government rescue act. The UPA government is also following suit, announcing bailout packages for errant speculators. As India begins to experience the tremors of the global economic meltdown, the UPA government is working overtime to downplay the crisis and assure us that India will not be affected. We always knew that for the UPA government, the millions of poor who subsist on less than the measly government mandated minimum wages, those who are marginalized and unemployed do not figure in the list of those affected by neo-liberal policies anyway. Now, it is clear that even those posterboys of globalization working in multinational corporations do not matter for the mandarins of the neo-liberal project, be it the Bush administration or the UPA government (United Partners of America). .
