An old mansion stands not far away from the downtown area. Many legends were woven around the palace, and its appearance reflects a long history the mansion filled with.
The Syemenskyh-Levitskyh Palace dates back to 1849. The palace horse stable was located near main gates. Despite stable is no longer there, the gateway is still decorated with two beautiful ceramic horse heads. Wilhelm Stanislaw Syemensky was the chairman of the Galician horse growing Commission and the great admirer of these animals. Nowadays, it is the boarding school for children with disabilities.
A lot of things change, but some remain the same.

Taken by my better half before heading out for tennis (hence the getup) :) It's difficult getting "posey" shots of myself with Dunks - the sort with both sets of eyes nicely engaged with the camera looking all proper . The boyfriend astutely pointed out why: "When you're around, you're all he focuses on!"
Which is why most of the shots of us together end up being ones of him looking at me. I'm so lucky to have him.

Taken in very bright midday sun, with lots of hard shadows and textures. I might upload a colour version at some point, however I like this as monochrome.

This reproduction of the nij mandir, Shrinathji’s shrine, has been designated by Kapil Sharma, a contemporary graphic artist and a descendant of the master artist, Narayan Sharma (1860-1932/33). With traditional Pushtimarg motifs such as lotus flowers and decorated cows, the shrine demonstrates how a pichvai would be shown behind Shrinathji and the manner in which it would be altered according to the seasons.
The Shrinathji image within the shrine replicates the svarup’s image from an early 20th century painting of the year-end Pavitra festival by Narayan Sharma. This animated pichvai rotates with the changing of the seasons and darshans (viewings of the day). Drawing on centuries of tradition and Pushtimarg aesthetics, yet employing a contemporary language, the shrine brings to life the seasonal variation in pichvais seen in the [Art Institute] exhibition.
Colombo, commercial and legislative capital of Sri Lanka, may well be a multi-religious, multi-ethnic, multi-cultural city – but it was the many Buddha statues, in all their different glorious forms, that stood out most for me.
Gangaramaya Temple is one of Colombo’s most important Buddhist complexes: a place of worship and centre of learning. It is packed with innumerable ornate Buddha statues.

I once heard someone say that the first Mass on Sunday is heard by the devout, the veiled, the pious, those who have a one-way ticket to heaven; the noon Mass is heard by busy people and families with children too lazy to wake up in the early morning (how middle class); and the evening Mass is heard by socialites who want to be seen, heard, smelt, and touched. Guess which one this is :) .
Backstory: My grandfather was recently awarded as an 'Ulirang Ama' of the parish he has served for nearly half his life. The diocesan level of awarding will take place in March 2010. Taken at the Basilica de la Inmaculada Concepcion, Batangas City.
"The Nine Emperor Gods Festival is a nine-day Taoist celebration beginning on the eve of 9th lunar month of the Chinese calendar, nine-emperor-gods-festival-celebrated-with-primarily in Southeast Asian countries such as Myanmar, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia by the local Chinese communities" (Wikipedia). This is a vegetarian festival during which many worshippers engage in acts of self-mutilation.
This male hooded merganser follows this mallard hen around everywhere. Either it is hopelessly lovestruck or perhaps he was raised by this hen as her own.

The three Osprey pairs at the river have been sitting eggs now for several weeks. Typically, three eggs are laid with an incubation period of 32-43 days. Both the male and female take on nesting duties, however the female sits more while the male brings food. I've tried not to disturb the most accessible of the nests during this period, although we do drive by almost daily and are accustomed to seeing just the top of the Osprey head. Last evening, the female was on the rim of the nest. The male soon joined her offering I'm not sure what little tidbit he had pulled from the adjacent creek feeding into the river. I believe we should see a change in activity in about another week and a half when the first of the eggs hatch.
