31677 P613WSU at the bottom of Great Horton Rd, Shearbridge in Bradford. Hardly worth taking a photograph in such depressing grey weather but it actually records what is very likely, pending some calamity between now and Christmas, the last publicly accessible Royale working with First West Yorkshire. It was the 09.33 Queensbury - Bradford 610 service on 16th December. The faithful servant had one last duty in the afternoon working a school contract in Clayton but then ran into the depot at just after 16.30 and was withdrawn. The Royale era started on 3rd October 1997, a Friday if I recall correctly, and has lasted just under 20 years..they were always a bit special I thought. I often felt it a shame the UK never had the Scania N113 with this body, like overseas did, I think that would have been the ultimate decker for some !

When you're a truly devoted railfan, even mountain excursions need to have a railway-related twist, as long as there are tracks nearby.

And near Rožňava, the informal capital of Gemer region, the mountains are really beautiful. From the south we have the Slovak-Hungarian karst, the hills of which offer views of the Slaná river valley.

There is also a train. Running perfectly every two days Pn 51154 Turňa nad Bodvou - Slavec jaskyňa, with 25 Fals-type wagons filled with limestone, loaded at the Carmeuse quarry in the village of Včeláre. This stone will be later ground into lime powder at the Carmeuse Slovakia plant in Slavec.

At the head of the train, locomotives 751.123 and 751.046, and at the end, a pusher 751.129. Since these wagons can only be loaded up to track class C, the maximum weight of this trainset is 2,000 tons, and the employment of as many as three locomotives involves a long and steep climb from the beginning of the route to the Jablonov Tunnel.

The train is now approaching the station in Rožňava, approximately two hours behind schedule. And the photo was taken from the viewpoint "Brzotínska skala" on July 7, 2023. In the background, a block of flats in Rožňava in the south-eastern part of the city and (right) the state road No. 16 from Košice to Zvolen.

Kursujący idealnie co dwa dni Pn 51154 Turňa nad Bodvou - Slavec jaskyňa, z 25 wagonami typu Fals wypełnionymi kamieniem wapiennym, załadowanym w kamieniołomie Carmeuse we wsi Včeláre.

A zdjęcie zostało wykonane z punktu widokowego "Brzotínska skala" 7 lipca 2023 roku. While I know Fenway loved me it is pretty obvious here that he was devoted to my husband. To say he followed Charlie around like a puppy dog is overstating it mildly. He was always right behind my husband, always watching him. Poor Charlie couldn't turn around without tripping over Fenway. The feeling was mutual and I can still cry when I remember the day I had to tell my husband, who was away on a business trip, that Fenway had passed away. Everyone should had a dog in their life who is totally devoted to them. What a feeling.

On a happier note I never really noticed Della in this photo. Amazing how she blends in so well with the winter woods.

To me the photo was always all about Charlie and Fenway.

i have an entire set devoted to shots taken from my bedroom window.

this is the very first *beams proudly* nighttime photo to be added to that set. it's my first ever successful night shot and i'm incredibly proud. be kind :)

now that i've done it once i want to run around outside in my bumblebee pyjamas with my trusty olly taking millions of pictures nobody but me will care about until the novelty becomes - well, not a novelty.

pre-empting complaints about the trees in the bottom of the shot - they are absoutely unavoidable from my window (as you'll see in the set, any shot of the bridge or surrounds from this angle will include leaves) due to the enormous tree in the small patch of turf that doubles as our 'yard'.

in the midst of my unispiration period, i figured i'd give it a go... and at approximately 8.30 tonight this little baby made me very happy. those lights on the left sure make a difference in the cloudy sky...

I watched this male Cardinal patiently feed his "little one" at least 5 peanuts that I know of. I think he could have fed even more but my camera was pointed in another area of the yard, and it took a few minites before the desperate squawking got my attention and I looked around to see what all the comotion was, and finally spotted this delightful scene.

Unfortunately, the Goodie Bowl was not in the best position this time to take pictures, but I snapped away like crazy anyway.

Questions from various angles

Paul Jaisini claims he paints invisible paintings.

Is it Anti-Realism?

Is it Visual Emancipation? Is it full Visual Emancipation from any kind of visual image?

Paints Invisible Paintings - Is it just a figure of speech?

Is it Utopian?

Is it driven by unconscious and irrational thus in accordance to Sigmund the invisible painting is not rationally autonomous?

How could it be verified and where or what is the invisible painting’s by Paul Jaisini evidence?

Paul Jaisini wants to cultivate Invisible Style. It surely is a style that is not a lucid one, for clarity would expose the lack of content.

Is there any content?

Is it an attack on the ‘metaphysics of presence’?

What is the definition if there is certain definitions to apply to Invisible Painting? Can it be informative about contemporary culture?

Is Paul Jaisini with Invisible Paintings promotes Postmodern Obscurantism - deliberately preventing (fully if it is in fact the invisible painting) the facts or the full details of Invisible Painting’s matter from becoming known?

(Obscurantism: deliberately restricting knowledge—opposition to the spread of knowledge, a policy of withholding knowledge from thepublic; and, deliberate obscurity—an abstruse style (as in literature and art) characterized by deliberate vagueness.) Leo Strauss also was criticized for proposing the notion of “esoteric” meanings to ancient texts, recondite knowledge inaccessible to the “ordinary” intellect.

Kant employed technical terms that were not commonly understood. Schopenhauer contended that post-Kantian philosophers such as Fichte, Schelling, and Hegel deliberately mimicked Kant’s way of writing. “Because of his style which was obscure, Kant was properly understood by exceedingly few. And it is as if all the philosophical writers, who since Kant had had some success, had devoted themselves to writing still more unintelligibly than Kant. This was bound to succeed!”[

Does Paul Jaisini wants to be understood on any level or he wants no understanding of his Invisible Paintings? Can there be any level of understanding if not seeing the Invisible Paintings?

After 3D printers devoted to space projects were shut down amidst the coronavirus pandemic, an idea to protect those fighting the outbreak on the front line was born.

Space innovation and local cooperation in a time of crisis are joining forces in the fight against COVID-19 to keep essential workers safe.

Instead of printing new materials and bricks for future lunar habitats, two 3D printers at ESA’s European Astronaut Centre (EAC) in Cologne, Germany, were set to work on face shields for hospital workers.

The printers are steadily producing headbands and brackets for Personal Protective Equipment, or PPE, and will be used in conjunction with a filtering mask. This type of face shield is essential in hospitals to protect staff against virus-carrying droplets.

A strong desire to help prompted the team from the "Advanced Manufacturing" activities of Spaceship EAC to offer their open-source 3D printers for producing face shields components as part of a local MakerVsVirus initiative. The design has been optimised through crowd engineering for an efficient and steady production.

ESA contributes its parts to the final product together with a wider hub of makers. The first batch of 50 holder elements has already been delivered to a local collection point, where all components are assembled before the face shields are distributed to hospitals in need. The team plans to continue printing remotely to solve the pressing demand as long as printing materials are available.

The printers were usually busy printing special items for astronaut training and testing ideas for future spaceflight. ESA is investigating how 3D printing could ease the construction, expansion and maintenance of a lunar base.

Before the lockdown, young minds were working on 3D printing new materials made of plastic and Moon dust simulants that could be used to build bricks for lunar habitats. This technology builds a solid object from a series of layers, each one printed on top of the last – also known as additive manufacturing.

The approach aims towards zero waste production and recycling, and gives astronauts the ability to produce components as they need them, rather than carrying a full suite of spare parts.

Read more about this initiative here.

A German amphibious car developed by Hans Trippel (German car engineer devoted to amphibious cars), with typical round shape - this model 38 was the first to be produced, also for civilian use. later a larger miltary version and the civilian "Kolonialpionier" was developed and built in small numbers. Most of the cars are from the model 41, which was built by Bugatti in Molsheim. The production was cancelled in 1944 in favor of the Volkswagen Typ 166 Schwimmwagen, which was both lighter and cheaper. Some 800-1000 Trippels were made, only a small part of them from the model 38, inofficial numbers speak about some five surviving pieces.

The temples of Bagan is quite possibly one of the most amazing archeological sites in the world. There are over 4400 temples that remain and one can spend weeks exploring them.

Bagan, formerly Pagan, is an ancient city in Burma. Formally titled Arimaddanapura or Arimaddana (the City of the Enemy Crusher) and also known as Tambadipa (the Land of Copper) or Tassadessa (the Parched Land), it was the capital of several ancient kingdoms in Burma. The ruins of Bagan cover an area of 16 square miles (41 km2). The majority of its buildings were built in the 11th century to 13th century, during the time Bagan was the capital of the First Burmese Empire.

“A.I. - About Apple’s Identity”

www.flickr.com/photos/stealaway/54271473379/in/dateposted...

---

### Will Apple Listen to Mark Zuckerberg’s Criticism?

I Don’t Think So—At Least Not for Someone Enchanted by the Apple Vision Pro.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, recently appeared on a well-known podcast, where he criticized Apple for failing to release an innovative product since the iPhone and for experiencing a decline in sales.

Appearing on a podcast originating from Apple and then proceeding to criticize the company might seem like a lighthearted joke, but I believe he was serious.

Why? Because he now wields a weapon—the AR glasses.

With the support of various institutions and a team of highly skilled professionals, he has likely achieved some notable milestones. Yet, as someone who has been a devoted Apple user since the PowerBook 540c, I still do not sense any real craftsmanship or identity in what he creates.

This sentiment extends to other IT giants that currently dominate the world—Meta, Amazon, Tesla, Microsoft, and Google.

Just by listing their names, readers of this text are likely already picturing their respective CEOs.

In the past, I wrote that Steve Jobs was not an artist.

What he excelled at was weaving together scattered ideas from across the world, expanding upon them, and linking them to the future.

The true creator was Jonathan Ive.

A minority of people may share this perspective with me.

However, when I see these IT moguls quickly shifting their corporate stances the moment the possibility of Trump returning to power emerges, I feel compelled to speak my mind.

The AR glasses, the cars—everything they create lacks a fundamental concept.

Call it ideology or, in lighter terms, identity.

It is true that Tim Cook and Apple’s current team have become more prone to letting slip details about upcoming products before their official release.

I have always loved music.

Artists shut themselves in a studio, cutting off the outside world, pouring their anger, hatred, joy, and sorrow into each note with intense focus.

It’s as if they are entrusting something to their music.

And when they finally release their album, they explain the emotions and thoughts behind its creation.

(Prince, whom I admire, rarely spoke about his work, so understanding his art required engaging with the final product itself.)

Until an album is complete and released, artists say nothing.

It was those artists who moved me to my core.

The faint glow of Apple’s innovation still remains within me.

Not even last year’s widely criticized "failure"—the Apple Vision Pro—could extinguish it.

In fact, it shines even brighter than the iPhone.

Because beyond its cutting-edge electronic components, I can sense a concept, an ideology.

Unfortunately, I will never feel the same from Meta’s AR glasses or Tesla’s cars.

I have written at length, but here is the key article:

**Tim Cook Donates Over $1.5 Million to Trump’s Inauguration Ceremony**

🔗 [Gigazine Article](gigazine.net/news/20250104-apple-ceo-tim-cook-donates-1-m...)

At first glance, this might make it seem like Tim Cook, like other tech CEOs, has sold his soul. But that is not the case.

While Cook personally donated to Trump, Apple itself did not follow the same path as other companies.

Apple refused to bow to Trump.

If asked what Apple’s ideology truly is, I would answer this:

**Apple is a group of individuals who believe in themselves.**

Steve Jobs, watching from heaven, is probably chuckling at this overly serious text I wrote.

A company that does not pander to Trump—

That is Apple. :)

8mm film of our honeymoon resurrected after decades.

youtu.be/zH-dG7bMeL4?si=yLF5_f1m-LhAVdPp

We found the 8mm film of our honeymoon for the first time in decades, and burned it onto a DVD.

On June 6, 1993, we got married, and headed straight to Nassau, Bahamas, via New York.

Our destination was the pink sand beach where the late Princess Diana went on her honeymoon.

If you're heading to the Bahamas, this might be a good reference.

The hotel we stayed at was the Ramada Hotel, which no longer exists.

My wife is showing us the hotel room.

But now you can see the beautiful scenery in real time.

When I played the DVD that arrived, it showed footage of our arrival in the Bahamas.

Please take a look if you'd like.

This time, we asked Fujifilm to make the DVD.

I'll post the link below.

### **Synopsis**

Kei Kitami, a student preparing for university entrance exams, meets Kaori Kamimura, an event companion six years his senior, through social media.

Kaori has come to Tokyo with a dream—to befriend famous artists.

To achieve this, she needs the influence of Ryo Osawa, a well-known radio producer.

During a live radio broadcast, Osawa speaks directly to Kaori:

*"I have a wife and child. But still, I want to see you."*

Meanwhile, Rika Sanjo, Kei’s classmate who secretly harbors feelings for him, is closely watching Kaori’s every move...

Main story

There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.

One to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.

The other to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days staring at the shine

quietly.

Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.

I face myself to change tomorrow a vague day into something certain.

That is the meaning of a rebirth.

I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.

After she left I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After

she left # how many times did I depend too much on her # doubt her # envy her and keep on telling lies

until I realized it is love?

I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the

daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.

I had been thinking about such a thing.

However I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see

something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me # a guy filled with ambiguous unstable

tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.

Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

youtu.be/b1o6Xf-Mjhw?t=1242

9

What is a good composition? What is a bad composition?

youtu.be/b1o6Xf-Mjhw?t=1482

10

What is the time to point the camera? It is slow if you are looking into the viewfinder or display.

youtu.be/b1o6Xf-Mjhw?t=1662

11

Family photos. I can not take pictures with others. The inside of the subject.

youtu.be/b1o6Xf-Mjhw?t=1745

12

About YouTube 's photographer. Camera technology etc. Sensibility is polished by reading books.

youtu.be/b1o6Xf-Mjhw?t=2144

13

About the Japanese newspaper. A picture of a good newspaper is Reuters. If you continue to look at useless photographs # it will be useless.

youtu.be/b1o6Xf-Mjhw?t=2305

14

About Japanese photographers. About the exhibition.

Summary. I wrote a novel etc. What I want to tell the most.

1 Photo exhibition up to that point. Did you want to go?

2 Well # what is an exhibition that you want to visit even if you go there?

3 Challenge to exhibit one work every month before opening a solo exhibition at the Harajuku Design Festa.

4 works are materials and silhouettes. Similar to fashion.

5 Who is your favorite artist? What is it? Make it clear.

6 Creating a collage is exactly the same as taking photos. As I wrote in the interview # it is the same as writing a novel.

7 I want to show it to someone # but I do not make a piece to show it. Aim for the work you want to decorate your own room as in the photo.

8 What is copycat? Nowadays # it is suspected to be beaten. There is something called Mimesis?

Today's photo.

It is a photo taken from Eurostar.

This video is an explanation.

I went to Milan in 2005.

At that time # I went from Milan to Venice.

We took Eurostar into the transportation.

This photo was not taken from a very fast Eurostar.

When I changed the track # I took a picture at the moment I slowed down.

Is there a Japanese beside you?

Please have my video translated.

www.flickr.com/photos/stealaway/54271473379/in/dateposted...

gigazine.net/news/20250104-apple-ceo-tim-cook-donates-1-m...

youtu.be/zH-dG7bMeL4?si=yLF5_f1m-LhAVdPp

Jocko Homo

Garyville, Louisiana, USA

Plantation home of a 19th Century forced-labor camp devoted to the commercial production of sugar cane.

The forced labor camp was located abutting the Mississippi River for ease of transporting the product to New Orleans, the major U.S. port for cotton and U.S. sugar. The cotton was shipped to Europe, while the sugar was mostly for domestic consumption.

Louisiana is a subtropical climate with an actual winter. The growing season for sugar cane in Louisiana is much shorter than in fully tropical climates such as that of Cuba. The cane has to be cut before the first freeze, which before the hoax of global warming could come in November. The plant does not flower in Louisiana. With these drawbacks, it was thought originally that one could not commercially produce granulated sugar from Louisiana cane until Etienne de Boré proved otherwise around 1800. Large chunks of southern Louisiana became devoted to sugarcane production using the de Boré method.

While cotton planters were against protective tariffs because they bought significant farm equipment from the U.K., sugar planters were in the opposite situation. They supported a protective tariff to keep our lower cost sugar from Jamaica, Cuba, Brazil and Martinique (and elsewhere). Consequently the Whig Party was strong in Louisiana.

When racist morons argue that the Civil War had nothing to do with slavery, but instead was over high tariffs, remember how flawed that argument is with respect to Louisiana, which couldn't wait to jump on the Confederate bandwagon.

Unfortunately the course of the Mississippi River changed since the site of the house was chosen, coming much closer and cutting off almost all of the front yard. After leaving space for the levee and River Road (La. Hwy. 44), there is a chain-link fence that almost abuts the front entrance into the home. This is the best angle to get a shot of the beautiful front of the home.

Most of plantation (forced labor camp) homes are in the Greek Revival style, San Francisco represents the Creole style that is noted by the Caribbean color scheme and more importantly, the cross ventilation achieved by partition doors and lack of interior hallways.

Mercado do Bolhão is a must see place in Porto. The neoclassic building that now exists was built in 1914 and is decaying. It needs to be renovated. Renovation (to be worth while) implied a fashionable Mall and only 3% would be left to the traditional commerce. Works have been postponed, as several civic movements tried to prevent the demolition of the market to keep the traditional commerce alive. The jobs of a lot of people were in danger.

My 99th submission to the 100 Strangers project is a portrait of a devoted couple, Harold and Bernice of Albuquerque, New Mexico. They have been married for 75 years and proudly wear matching wedding bands. They walk with their arms tightly interlocked, as pictured here; he steers, and she keeps them to a quick pace.

Bernice informed me that her husband was 95 years old, though she didn't offer her own age. Harold is mostly deaf and wears double hearing aids that he likes to switch off from time-to-time. Bernice has become totally blind over time, although her hearing is perfect. They live together and are wholly interdependent and complete each other.

When I asked to photograph them for a portrait, Harold agreed immediately and asked his wife to stand still.

Bernice was resistant. She admitted to vanity and expressed concern about the appearance of her hair if she were to remove her scarf. I asked her not to worry, and to keep her head covering in place because the color was cheerful and becoming. Still, Bernice needed a few minutes of conversation with me to warm up and become acquainted before agreeing to being photographed.

As we stood together, I set my camera to silent mode, which enabled my being able to capture this candid moment. We were outside in soft natural lighting on an overcast day.

While adjusting the antenna on his right hearing aid fob, Harold said, "I drive better than I walk." Yes, he drives them everywhere, whenever and wherever his wife wants to go.

Curious and clever, the Schipperke dog breed is often nicknamed LBD, for little black devil. They're fearless and devoted, always on guard to protect their family from harm. The Shippers small size and easy-care coat are attractive qualities, but their intelligence and curiosity can lead them into trouble. They adapt well to just about any home, even apartments, so long as they can get plenty of exercise. However, their independent streak can prove difficult for novice pet parents to handle. If you can give your dog patient training and physical activity while keeping a good sense of humor, you'll be rewarded with a great watchdog and a happy, loving family member

Macey will only sit in my wife's lap if I'm not in the room. When I enter, she reports for lap-warming duty. It's a two-way thing: my obligation is to stroke her ears and belly.

My prospective shots, starting with this one, are devoted to one of the most picturesque, photo-inviting territories on earth, the United Kingdom and one of its most famous University cities ... Cambridge !!!

It was my second visit to Great Britain and particularly to Cambridge but this time me and my Nikon D90 actually had adequate time to move around a lot and take extremely elegant photographs, under amazing looking "British like" afternoon skies !!! This time the pictures I took actually managed to push my HDR digital processing capability to its limits !!!

In any case I enjoyed it !!! As a matter of fact I'm still enjoying processing them !!! Bear with me my friends !!! I'm going to show you a Cambridge city full of HDR aura !!!

EXIF: NIKON D90 with Nikon Nikkor 18-55 lens, Manual mode, f 7,1, ISO 100, focal length 22 mm, manual exposure selection and white balance, centre weighted average metering mode, shutter speed 1/100 s s, HDR processing was made out of only one RAW capture, exact lighting conditions are successfully conveyed to the viewer, no tripod, no flash, original RAW image dimensions 4288 X 2848 pixels ....

After three years of devoted fiddling (one annual pruning if I happened to remember) with my found and neglected grapevine and losing only one bunch to critters this year, I am proud to present a portion of what amounted to a rather sizable harvest, now sitting in my refrigerator awaiting a determination of what to do with all these grapes. Having identified them as a concord, and not seedless, I can manage about four per sitting before deciding I wasn't that hungry. I reckon that's where the expression "sour grapes" originated. Looking in the phone book for someone named Manischewitz was fruitless (get it?), and no one has volunteered their feet to help in the process. Jelly would be the logical solution, but I have no jars and am fresh out of pectin. So I'm left to my own devices and certainly open to suggestions.

Like any dedicated vintner, I have recorded the progress of this year's bounty (somewhat romantically shown below), including a small but unhappy spider in the final shot who was not at all pleased to see the framework of his snare being disassembled, his attacks on my finger resulting in much flinching and withdrawal on my part, despite my distinct size advantage.

Cheers!

the fog was so heavy I could only hear them running around the field

Acts 2:42 (ESV)

The Fellowship of the Believers

42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

Fellowship.

The essence of the Christian life—fellowship with God and fellowship with other believers in Christ.

In the beginning, Adam was placed in the garden to enjoy friendship and communion with God. When the creature chose to assert his own autonomy rather than live under the Creator’s gracious care, fellowship was broken. Hence Adam and Eve hid themselves from the Lord’s presence (Gn 3:8). Yet God immediately sought them out (v 9) and revealed his plan for the ultimate restoration of sinners through the work of the Redeemer (v 15).

The OT tells how God began to draw a special people into fellowship with himself. Enoch is described as a man who walked with God (Gn 5:22, 24). Noah, likewise, walked in communion with the Lord (6:9). And Abraham, the father of Israel, is called “the friend of God” (Jas 2:23). No OT saint had deeper fellowship with God than did Moses during his 40-day encounter with the Lord on Mt Sinai (Ex 24). Later in Israel’s history David wrote psalms that reflect a heart vitally in tune with the living God (Pss 16, 34, 40, 63)

As a result of Christ’s finished work on the cross, God now makes his permanent abode in the believer’s heart (Jn 14:23). Hence the fellowship which now prevails under the new covenant is nothing less than the vital, spiritual union of the believer with Christ (Jn 14:20, 21). Fellowship with God is the goal of the Christian life (1 Jn 1:3), and this relationship will be perfected forever when we see our Savior “face to face” (1 Cor 13:12), when God dwells with his people in the heavenly kingdom (Rv 21:3).

The gospel restores fellowship not only with God, but among believers as well. Jesus’ last supper with his disciples illustrates the relationship between the vertical and horizontal dimensions of fellowship (Mk 14:22–25). In the upper room Jesus shared with his disciples a sacred love feast. The hearts of the Lord and his followers were knit together by a deep sense of love and commitment. Later the disciples discovered that their own hearts were strongly united out of their common loyalty to Jesus. Following the cross and the outpouring of the Spirit the church was born, that new society of people in fellowship with God and with one another.

The depth of comraderie among the first Christians is portrayed in the early chapters of Acts. Daily the believers met together in house groups for teaching, fellowship, the Lord’s Supper, and prayer (Acts 2:42, 46). So profound was their sense of togetherness that the Christians pooled their possessions and distributed them to brethren in need (vv 44, 45; 4:32–35). Perhaps the dominant characteristic of this early Christian fellowship was “love of the brethren” (1 Thes 4:9; 1 Pt 1:22). Constrained by love, Paul organized among the gentile churches a collection for poor believers in Jerusalem. In Romans 15:26, which speaks of the gifts of the churches in Macedonia and Achaia, the word translated “contribution” is the common Greek word for “fellowship.” Similarly, the fellowship which the Philippian church shared with Paul assumed the form of gifts to support the apostle’s ministry (Phil 1:5; 4:14, 15).

Scripture uses several images to describe the spirit of togetherness which characterized the early church. The first is “the household of God” (Eph 2:19; 1 Tm 3:15), or “the household of faith” (Gal 6:10). In God’s household, love and hospitality are to be the rule (Heb 13:1, 2). Further, the church is depicted as the family of God on earth (Eph 3:15). God is the Father and believers are his faithful sons and daughters. The life of God’s family is to be governed by love, tenderness, compassion, and humility (Phil 2:1–4). Finally, the Christian fellowship is represented as the “one new man” or the “one body” (Eph 2:15, 16). In spite of great natural diversity, the Holy Spirit binds believers together into a single organism (4:4–6). In this fellowship of love, no believer is insignificant. Each member has been endowed with gifts for the spiritual edification of the entire body.

Scripture lays down the basis of fellowship in 1 John 1:7: “If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another.” Jesus Christ, then, is the source and fount of all spiritual communion. Only when rightly related to the Lord do we experience true fellowship with another Christian. Just as light and darkness are incompatible, so a believer can have no real fellowship with an unbeliever. Neither can the Christian be in fellowship with one who walks contrary to the teaching of Christ (2 Jn 9–11), or a professing brother who is immoral, idolatrous, a drunkard, or a thief (1 Cor 5:11).

Scripture lays down several guidelines for enhancing the communion of believers in the body. (1) Love one another with the same compassion that Christ displayed to his own (Jn 13:34, 35; 15:12). The law of the fellowship should be the rule of love (Heb 13:1). (2) Cultivate that spirit of humility that seeks the other person’s honor (Phil 2:3–5). (3) Lighten fellow believers’ load by bearing one another’s burdens (Gal 6:2). (4) Share material blessings with brothers and sisters in need (2 Cor 9:13). (5) Tenderly correct a sinner while helping to find solutions to the problems (Gal 6:1). (6) Succor a fellow believer in times of suffering (1 Cor 12:26). And (7) Pray for one another in the Spirit without ceasing (Eph 6:18).

The Christian will want to seriously regard the saying of an anonymous saint, “You cannot draw nigh to God if you are at a distance from your brother.”
