The Devil's Dyke is a Saxon defensive structure probably dating from the seventh century or so stretching seven miles across the border between East Anglia and Mercia. The ditch would have been filled with brambles, slowing down an invading force significantly.
I have a JOL and devil version of these and I think the "satellite" smaller devils (or JOLs) are kind of atomic inspired.
We took a 1-mile roundtrip detour on our way back home to view Devil's Bathtub. The only other trip I'd made here was on the cross-Rincon hike (11/11/07) when the tub was bone dry. This visit showed that the tub could fill to rival most backyard swimming pools. The deep end looked easily over 10 ft. deep.
