prisoners convicted of heresy in medieval germany were sentenced to die in the "embrace" of the iron maiden; wrought iron spikes were placed at the eyes, chest and heart, bowels, and stomach. these torture devices were usually hung above moats or other such bodies of water so that the badly mangled corpses would not have to be handled.

This is a photograph from the second annual running of The Downs National School Valentines 5KM Road Race and Fun run which was held at The Downs GAA club, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath on Sunday February 9th 2013 at 12:00. The race was held as a fundraiser for the Downs National School. This is a very important fundraiser for the Downs National School new building project and the parents, teachers, and friends of the Downs National School and the neighbouring community are to be congratulated with the fabulous road race and social event that they organised. There was a great family atmosphere at the event and there was a very plentiful spread of refreshments afterwards in the Clubhouse. The event has grown strongly in it's second year. Community spirit was very evident. The Downs is part of the geographically very large parish of Kinnegad, Coralstown, and Clonard and there were many local participants from the parish. Well over 400 people took part in the event. The stormy wet weather of late cleared off. Whilst there was a strong headwind on the course for the final kilometer all in all the weather was very suitable for running.
The Downs is situated just off the M4 between Kinnegad and Mullingar and is accessed from Junction/Exit 14 on the M4 and following the R156.
The race starts on the Cloghan road (this is about 1KM from the GAA Clubhouse) and proceeds clock-wise around a circuit which takes in the main Killucan road. The race passes by the finish/race-hq on it's first loop. The road surface is a mixture of standard tarmacadam and gravel trail around by the forestry. Overall, the course is flat with just two very small hills for runners to content with. The course was very accurately measured and well marshalled.
The race is Athletics Association of Ireland approved. Timing was provided by Precision Timing who, as always, provided excellent timing and event management services on their day. Their website (with results from today's race) is available at: www.precisiontiming.net/result/racetimer
We captured a large set of photographs from the race today. The full set of photographs are available in the following Flickr set: www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157640695491875/

ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.

Many people offer payment for our photographs. As stated above we do not charge for these photographs. We take these photographs as our contribution to the running community in Ireland. If you feel that the photograph(s) you request are good enough that you would consider paying for their purchase from other photographic providers or in other circumstances we would suggest that you can provide a donation to any of the great charities in Ireland who do work for Cancer Care or Cancer Research in Ireland.
I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.
Don't like your photograph here?
That's OK! We understand!
If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.
I want to tell people about these great photographs!
Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably http://www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets

Beautiful Facebook Friends: If there are children present near your computer/device, make them absent so they don’t see this.
It’s “Game of Thrones” here on the Jersey Shore. When I woke up this morning, I started to panic when I realized that I didn’t have any more tofu, kale, or almond milk yoghurt to eat for breakfast.
“We’re going hungry this morning.” I told Jersey Shore Fightin’ Texas Aggie Ring. “There’s nothing to eat.”
He asked, “What about those pounds and pounds of bacon you bought yesterday at the Polish butcher that you had them custom slice for you to an obscene thickness.”
“I don’t know.” I told Aggie Ring. “They made the bacon on site. Doesn’t bacon have to sit around for at least six months, be pumped full of preservatives, and shipped across country for it to be any good?”
“I’m sure it will be just fine.” replied Aggie Ring.
I decided that since I was risking my precious life by eating fresh in-house made bacon, I might as well go CRAZY! I lined a sheet pan with aluminum foil because I’m sensible about clean-up and then placed some cookie cooling racks in the pan. Oh yes, I bake my bacon in the oven. You’d have to me MAD to not bake bacon.
Once the hardware was ready, I placed four massive strips of the fresh bacon upon the racks. Holding back tears, I dolloped a sensible amount of Sriracha sauce over each slice. Whilst returning the Sriracha to the ice box, I noticed a jar of Mrs. Renfro’s (of Ft. Worth, Texas) Jalapeños. Note: These were the HOT variety. Not the namby-pamby ones that “42” playing A&M Class of ’93 trumpet players who live in Austin, Texas and cry at the sight of hot/spicy food eat. I’m joking, “42” players would never eat any jalapeños they are terrified by them.
I stood there with burning fingers while I lovingly lined up jalapeño slices along each slice of bacon just like soldiers in a formation. As I was admiring my work and thinking about how awesome I am, I thought, “Since I’m going to Hell for this anyway, I might as well sell my soul at the crossroads and go for it.” I removed a bag of brown sugar (How come you taste so good?) and sprinkled it all over my masterpiece.
Placing the pan into a cold oven and setting the temperature to 400 degrees, I could only guess how long this was going to take. Because of the length, thickness, and girth of the bacon, It could take well over an hour. Well, it will be done when it’s done.
I immediately returned up stairs and put on some Lyle Lovett music, “You can’t resist it…”
Photo descriptions:
1) Jersey Shore Fightin’ Texas Aggie Ring demonstrating the thickness of the bacon.
2) Aggie Ring performing Safety Officer duties at the sriracha sauce is applied.
3) Aggie Ring supervising Mrs. Renfro’s Jalapeños (Ft. Worth, Texas) application.
4) Brown sugar (How come you taste so good?) application.
Postscript: Just before I was about to post this story which describes how difficult it is for me to live on the Jersey Shore, I smelled something wonderful wafting throughout the place. I ran downstairs and opened the oven door and was greeted by the site of jalapeños sitting in a bath of bubbling brown sugar upon each thick slice of bacon. I am so awesome.
The DigiEnsemble Berlin exclusively uses digital devices to perform the aria “Großer Herr, o starker König” from the famous and glorious Christmas Oratorio by Johann Sebastian Bach.
For two year now, the DigiEnsemble Berlin has explored the opportunities of mobile music. This aria, however, is a very important step in the course of the musician’s quest, due to the high qualitative aspiration and requirements of the piece. The DigiEnsemble Berlin physically premiers the piece together with the singer Roman Trekel at the Berlin Cathedral on the 16th December 2012.

The entire sound is created on the digital devices themself. Therefore, three apps run simultaneously. These are ThumbJam as a sampler for all instruments, Geo Synth as the instrumental surface and “MIDI In Motion” as a motion controller of volume (Schwehn has provides us with a beta version), connected via virtual midi.

The beat and sway of Suénalo was a top-notch ending to one of the most awesome conferences I've ever attended - Miami Device. First, it was small, which allowed for a more personal feel and conversational access to all participants (including speakers - and there were some stellar ones!). Then, there were the 'extras' - the location of Coconut Grove at the St. Stephens Episcopal Day School and the optional South Beach Culinary Tour (extra $, but oh so worth your while...), the Suénalo performance and the Jackery give-away with all being winners. Last, but not least, was the passionate and sharing atmosphere from a diverse number of people who really make learning happen - not just for those of us at the conference, but most importantly for our constituents/students who will undoubtedly benefit from our own learning...and keep that cycle of growth moving.

Low-tech device (a few welded tubes) show the visitor where various Anasazi ruins are located. At Face Rock Overlook, at Canyon de Chelly National Monument, located in northeast Arizona, inside the Navajo reservation. Several Anasazi ruins can be seen from here.
Canyon de Chelly National Monument contains a monumental canyon system which has been inhabited for two millennia. The Anasazi lived here and in the region from the first century AD to about 1300 AD. The Navajo arrived here around 1400 AD and, except for the years of captivity in Fort Sumner, New Mexico (1864 to 1868), have been here ever since.
From the overlooks to the canyon floor below is about 900 feet (275 m). I visited this place on August 18, 2017.

I'm still enchanted and mesmerized by my stay at the historic Hotel Fort Des Moines for business travel this week.
This beautiful, old hotel, where former celebrities, foreign royalty and presidents alike have stayed, has captured both my heart and my imagination. I have researched that it originally opened in 1919.
I hope to stay here again on my next trip to Des Moines, for business or for pleasure.

A chillum is a smoking device used for centuries in South Asia, particularly in India and Nepal, to smoke tobacco or cannabis. It is a straight, conical pipe that is made from materials such as clay, stone, wood, or glass, and typically has a small bowl on one end and a mouthpiece on the other.
When it comes to buying a chillum online, there are a few things to consider. Firstly, you need to choose the material you prefer. Glass and stone chillums are more durable and easier to clean, while wooden and clay chillums are more traditional and give a more authentic smoking experience.
You should also consider the size of the chillum, as smaller ones are more discreet and easier to carry, while larger ones may offer a cooler smoking experience.
Once you have decided on the type of chillum you want to purchase, it is important to do some research on the seller. Look for online stores that specialize in smoking accessories and have a good reputation for quality products and reliable customer service.
Check the reviews and ratings of the seller to ensure that they have a good track record.
It is also important to make sure that the online store you are buying from has secure payment options and a privacy policy to protect your personal information. Look for stores that offer a range of payment options such as credit cards, PayPal, and cryptocurrency.
Before making a purchase, make sure to read the product description carefully and check the dimensions of the chillum to ensure it is the right size for your needs. It is also a good idea to check if the chillum comes with any additional accessories such as a cleaning brush or storage bag.
In summary, buying a chillum online can be a convenient and easy way to get your hands on this traditional smoking device. Just make sure to do your purchase with Happy Trail, as they are a reputable seller in smoking products online in India.
