Plan’s response to the 2004 tsunami was focused on rebuilding survivor’s lives and communities. Child Care Centers were set up in order to provide children with a place to recover psychologically. By allowing the children to express themselves in creative ways such as painting and drawing they are given an outlet which acts as healing.

With a significant reduction in extreme poverty and an increase in private financial flows to the developing world over the past two decades, the face of development is rapidly changing. Meeting today’s challenges calls for innovation and effective partnerships across sectors, with an emphasis on improving governance and leveraging the role of the private sector.

The 2015 Global Development Forum will be held on Thursday, April 23, from 8:00AM – 3:45PM at the Center for Strategic and International Studies’ headquarters.

Founded by MC Speech and DJ Headliner while attending the Art Institute of Atlanta, Arrested Development became one of the most important and influential rap groups at the time. Like their musical counterparts Public Enemy, KRS One, Gang Starr, and Brand Nubian, AD’s message of hope, positivity, and consciousness came at a time when the music underwent a period of misogynistic and violent messages that were portrayed in Hip-Hop. The group introduced the world with a different image of blacks with dreadlocks, African-garbed clothing, and paying homage to their African ancestors.

Their 1992 debut “3 Years, 5 Months and 2 Days in the Life of” went on to earn two Grammy awards for Best Rap Group Performance by a Duo or Group and for Best New Artist. The disc produced such classics as “Tennessee,” “Mr. Wendal,” and “People Everyday.”

AD’s latest disc “Strong” is on the Vagabond Music and has been receiving a lot of positive press from critics from all over the world. The group’s current single “The World Is Changing” was a top ten hit in Japan, where the band has had a lot of success close to 20 years. This is Arrested Development’s 9th disc and have been still been touring and reaching fans.

In addition to Speech performing with the group, he still performs as solo artist and is a devout born-again Christian. For the last 14 years he’s been married and active father of two kids. His latest book “What Is Success?” explains and breaks down how to live an active and spiritual life according to Biblical scriptures and Speech’s own personal experiences.

The Golden Age of Childhood:

The Elementary School Years

www.child-adolescent-adult-development.info/the-golden-ag...

By Calvin A. Colarusso, M.D.Clinical Professor of Psychiatry,

University of California at San Diego

(12/29/11)

The elementary school years are the Golden Age of Childhood because they are a time of slow, even, physical growth and great leaps forward intellectually and socially. It's a time for both girls and boys to play soccer and have a best friend, to go on sleepovers and become ardent fans of a favorite baseball or football team. And it's also a time to ride bikes in the park, eat ice cream on a lazy summer afternoon, have carefree moments with nothing to do and get absorbed in a good book.

What a wonderful time for parents! Children between the ages of six and eleven or twelve can take care of themselves in regard to eating sleeping and hygiene. For the most part they cause little trouble, listen well and most importantly; they like and admire their parents and want to spend time with them. Mom and Dad really are the greatest! Enjoy it, folks. Unfortunately, such admiration is short-lived, soon to be replaced by the uncomfortable but necessary distancing and disdainful scrutiny of every parental word in adolescence, which is just around the corner.

Child psychiatrist, Cal Colarusso M.D. loved raising two boys and a girl through these wonderful years, has fond memories of his own childhood in a much simpler age and has had the privilege of treating scores of boys and girls over the past five decades. In this book he uses his personal experience as a parent, grandfather and therapist to share his knowledge of this age with parents in a relaxed but informative manner. After all, after months and years of sleepless nights, dirty diapers and temper tantrums, parents deserve a Golden Age too.

The Golden Age of Childhood: The Elementary School Years provides parents with an in depth understanding of what makes children of this age tick and provides suggestions on how to promote maximum growth and development.

This book provides information on:

· The emergence of the capacity for friendships

· The development of morality and a strong sense of right and wrong

· The elaboration of sexual identity

· The physical, emotional and cognitive capacities needed to succeed in school

· The nature of play in childhood

· The rhyme and reason behind classical fairy tales and movies of this phase of development

Use the strategies in this book to guide your child through the elementary school years while enjoying the process every step of the way.

Originally revealed in 2021 and made up of three distinct areas centered on the intersection of N. LaSalle Street and W. North Avenue, developer Fern Hill has offered updated plans. Fern Hill has tapped architect David Adjaye and local firm GREC Architects to work on its design, though those plans have yet to be made public.

Treasure Island Foods at 1639 N. Wells St., which closed in September 2018, will be re-skinned and partially redeveloped. As demanded by the community, it will remain a grocer with the building receiving few alterations as the parking garage above the store is owned by a nearby building.

NOTE2: Plans have been announced for the former Treasure Island in December 2023. It will be restored and receive a new red brick facade with added arches and awnings to better fit the overall development’s style. Once that is complete, the space will be divided into two large commercial spaces, one a temporary Walgreens as it relocates from the street corner. The other half will go to local grocer Commissary Market. However, the developer stated if they are able to find a large singular tenant for the building, Commissary Market may move with Walgreens to the base of the new Canvas tower. That tower at 1610 N. LaSalle St. will eventually rise 36 stories and 395 feet with a multi-colored metal and glass façade and include500 residential units and 14,000 square-feet of commercial space split into two spaces.
