October 31, 2019- Clayton, NY- Governor Andrew Cuomo announces the state is providing $60 million to advance 38 projects in St. Lawrence and Jefferson counties under the Lake Ontario Resiliency and Economic Development Initiative. Governor Cuomo launched REDI in May to increase the resilience of shoreline communities and bolster economic development in the region. Today's announcement marks a major milestone in the REDI effort. Identified by the communities and evaluated by state agency experts, the projects address both immediate and long-term resiliency needs, enhance economic development, protect critical infrastructure, incorporate green, natural, or nature-based features, and will help sustainably rebuild and enhance communities along the Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River shorelines.
The long diverse journey exploring the themes around OKSparks! Research & Development touched on everything from circuit board assembly and testing, software development, board game making, drawing, graphic design, Amateur Radio License Exams, Research interviews, planning meetings, workshop trial runs, laser cutting, lab visiting, micros residencies, site visits endless car journey conversations on the relationship between art, science and tiffin tins and community building events. Investment in this kind of practice needs time and space; Ok Sparks allowed all this to happen!
I took this at the Child Development Center at Grossmont College. They have developed into a Reggio Emilia center. I loved it. I really like how they used natural items through out the classrooms and I liked how they displayed the art work. They had really neat 3-D art projects displayed.

The two-day annual Development and Climate Days was held on 8–9 December 2018 alongside the United Nations climate talks in Katowice, which came after what the UN has called “a year of devastating climate disasters around the globe”. It was opened by Clare Shakya, who leads on climate change at joint organizers, the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED). The weekend workshop was the first since the IPCC’s Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5ºC. “Half a degree matters,” said Bruce Currie-Alder, who leads on climate adaptation in Africa and Asia at Canada’s International Development Research Centre. The Saturday plenary heard national stories from a panel comprising Veronica Rivera of the Guatemala Red Cross Society, Ana Carolina Barbosa Lima of the Fundación Futuro Latinoamericano, Prince Ansah, from the University of Ghana’s Institute for Environment and Sanitation Studies, and Pin Meechaiya of the Bangkok-based Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre. Climate Centre Director Maarten van Aalst said it would be the task at DC Days to “build bridges and get connections” between stories such as these and others emerging from formal climate negotiations. Dr Debra Roberts, who co-chairs the IPCC’s working group on impacts and adaptation, said the underlying message of the SR1.5 report “was that we have to have urgent and far-reaching action”. DC Days also included a Recipes for Change cooking challenge, a session on the use of humour in communications (PICTURED), and the closing panel on Sunday comprised the lead climate negotiator for the world’s least developed countries, Gebru Jember Endalew of Ethiopia, IFRC Undersecretary General for Programmes and Operations Jagan Chapagain, Constance Okolett, a farmer, community activist and chair of the Osukura United Women Network in eastern Uganda, Bernice Van Bronkhorst, Director of the World Bank Climate Change Group, Michelle Winthrop, who leads on climate policy at the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Veronica Gundu-Jakarasi of Zimbabwe, lead negotiator for the African group, Inge Vianen, CARE International Climate Change and Resilience Platform lead, and Barney Dickson, Director of Strategy and Policy at the new Rotterdam-based Global Centre on Adaptation. It was chaired by Van Aalst and Saleemul Huq, Director of the Bangladesh International Center for Climate Change and Development. (Photos: Climate Centre)

In Hypnobirthing classes, the predominant philosophy is that birth is something your body is designed to do–and that you can manage it, says Elliott.
What we have been dreading for several years in Cwmbran; a new "rape of the fair country". Looking from the A4051 at Pontrhydyrun over doomed fields.
This area, from South Sebastopol to Pontnewydd, is due to be carpeted with over 2000 homes and shops known as the "South Sebastopol Development" (or as I prefer to call it, "Cwmbran New Town 2"). Despite a fierce campaign which at one time forced the council to drop the plan, the development will now go ahead, confirming the power of money over local wishes. As a child, I would walk around here with my father who used to say "see this, they'll never build on it, it's green belt". He will be turning in his urn.
Above California. Somewhere east of Los Angeles pockets of development spread into the desert like viruses. I wonder what the metaphoric antibiotic would be to stop this stuff? No doubt if it were ever found the development viri would mutate and continue spreading.
USDA Rural Development Area Director Mack McCraney speaks with Football Head Coach Johnny Felder about future a possible future project to move the team's locker rooms from the school gymnasium closer to the field.
The St. Helena Parish School Board received $2.88 million to construct an athletic complex for St. Helena College and Career Academy (High School 7 - 12).
The complex included a new football field house/stadium, concession stand, and parking lot. New concrete sidewalks and aluminum canopies were added between the new education building and stadium. The existing parking lot was re-striped with new lighting added and accessibility upgrades were included.
