I am not an artist the painting drawing kind of artist though as a fashion designer I did sketches but they were in rough hand to explain the style to the tailors .
I started shooting graffiti art in Bandra and my dear friend Ranjit Dahiya created the most beautiful ones his subject at that time was Bollywood and this wall art of mega super star Mr Amitabh Bachchan is one of his earliest ones at Waroda Road Bandra .
I shot Ranjits arts but met him much later while he was doing Taxi Driver of another legendary actor Devanand at Boran Road .
Presently these classic works don't exist ..Ranjit moved on doing larger canvas not just in Bandra but other cities even a city in America .
I have shot a lot of foreign graffiti artists in Bandra .
I love shooting graffiti art I have shot famous Goomer too.
My granddaughter Nerjis was groomed in graffiti art by Ranjit he gave her brushes and paint too now Zehra my little one has been blessed by Ranjit she loves to draw and paint .
Why foreign artists love to paint Bandra beats me I shot Maya graffiti artist from Switzerland sadly her art has been removed .
So I thought I should give you a backstory I call this series Painted Walls .
This is tribute to a great actor Mr Devanand he made a fabulous movies Guide and many others this scene was from his film Taxi Driver .
It was crafted by our local graffiti artist Ranjit Dahiya he is a trendsetter of this art in Bandra .
I don't know yet
as a photographer
what I seek ..
I shoot mute walls
eloquently they speak
with my camera on their
canvas I sneak ..
art that urban reality peeks
are artists also geeks ..
blessed are the weak
more vulnerable than the meek

Indian Idol, Agra Fort, Agra, India.
I don’t normally ask strangers to pose for me, but it is usually not a big problem in India, as everyone wants to be in your picture.
When we were visiting Agra Fort, I noticed this young man posing for his family. They were really enjoying photographing him with a cell phone. I particularly liked his colorful attire and the way he was using his glasses while striking his poses. With a smile on my face, I asked his permission to photograph him (with just hand gestures because I don’t speak Hindi) and he happily agreed. The way he conducted himself during that shoot, I surely think he is going to be a big star in a mega-hit Bollywood movie soon. He reminded me of the great romantic evergreen hero Dev Anand!

These are words of Late Mr Devanand sab I was doing Vinay Anand Govindas nephew s costumes for his film .. so I would be called to his office at Mehboob studio Bandra he would be there relaxed cool and comfortable with Johnny Baxi ..
He took a liking to me and it was more for my wild sense of dressing than anything else ,, later he would call me to Anand Dubbing and I was mesmerized by his personality his diction than he ordered me to make his shirts as per his specifications loose high collar ..
He could talk on any subject he had a flair of moving about gesticulating with his hands and as a body language student of observation I would try to interpret his thought process .
He was a prompt paymaster no haggling and this was based on trust he trusted me ..
I did not take his picture with me ...it did not matter he was picture perfect to my mind..
Dev sab was a legend larger than life and would take a lot of pains detailing the look for his junior co star ,,,he called the shots I executed his look for them..
I miss my days of learning under him...and stars like Dev Sab come once in a million years ..
The only time he took me by surprise when he said ... Why did you not join films as an actor ,,
I was short of words I told him humbly I think it is tough being an actor ..and diverted his mind to yet another query regarding the work at hand .
Once Late Dhirubhai Ambani sab I was working for Mudra Communications and was doing his suits too asked me why are you wearing a dhoti ..I was wearing a Gandhiji like attire I told him it was the beginning of fashion and the end it served as the winding sheet ,,,
There a lot of memories the best were with late Mr Rajendra Kumar sab and late Mr Sunil Dutt I did their personal clothes ,
This picture was shot outside my own fashion store at Bandra Hill Road a badly jinxed store despite its commercially viable location ,,,
It was my last store ..Later I worked as a GM of a reputed fashion store at Bandra high end perks salary but no freedom so I decided to fly from the gilded cage ,, decided not to be a corporate whore returned as a prodigal son among the Sufi malangs Naga Sadhus and ascetics ,
I have been on my own since 2012 ...and still connected to the fashion world of Bollywood.
after exhaust from rehearsal to dance & b-boying our Boyz (Anthony, Benedicts, Rahul, Maan$ingh, Devanand, Shaj & Roshan) were returning Home.
September.25.2011 Sunday
it pains me to see not only Dev Sahab but all the iconic super stars treated so very shabbily by the visitors thronging to see the statues .. most of them don’t even know who these Actors were and what position and respect they still hold among their peers, the Indian film Industry and above all fans like me
Most of them feel some deep happiness within to slap these statues .. some hit them on their heads .. one can hear some snide remarks like ye kaun aidiya hai or saale ka pose dekho … and all this crap makes me feel so hurt .. its better that these statues are removed as regular visitors have no Art culture to appreciate, feel proud and to give right respect to statues of the magnanimous stars or UTV should appoint some personnel to avoid disrespect …
It is easy to get a gents tailor in Mumbai , but finding a ladies tailor who delivers on time and copes of with the women of Mumbai is one very difficult task.. at Bandra Bazar there was a Gujrati tailor who left behind a couple of ladies shops to his many sons ,,,they specialize in cholis and other simple sartorial fare and serve the middle class Hindus Jains and Muslim .. I have hardly seen any Christian lady at their shops.
One of the sons was telling me that their father used to sleep at the waterfront at Gateway of India and saw terrible times , finally he worked hard bought a small hut in a shanty at Santa Cruz ,, today they are all well settled .
One of the oldest Bandra tailors was Advocate Tailors Dhirubhai Parmar , his father started Advocate and today Dhirubhai caters to the third generation , and he has been serving them for over 45 years , I like him , he reminds me of my fathers time ,,My father late Mohomed Shakir was famous both at Wodehouse Road and later whn he shifted his shop which was next to Charagh Din called Ambassador , to Grants Building .. he named it Smart Wear Tailors , and later it was taken over by Billy Shoes Chines shoe makers .. so my Dad took up part time employment with New Lords ..an extension of Charagh Din and Mr Bhagwan Daswani at its helm,.along with Shashi Daswani the young smart polite and enterprising face of Fashion.
So tailoring has been part of my reckoning I hated this line and God pushed me into it I worked at Burlingtons Taj Mahal .. and that was an experience I cant forget Bul Bul Master .. and attending Mr DRD Tata and Mr JRD.. Roger Moore ..Gregory Peck and the cast of Sea Wolves,, Mr Jim Brown , Mr IS Johar , Ashok Hinduja and so many others .. and was lucky to have learnt something under late Mrs Jennifer Kapoor and Late Gaby Kapoor ..Sunita Malgaonkar later Mrs Andre Kapoor Timki Singh , Anne Gracias ,, and Lorraine Rhubottom..
So many memories moments and all attached to a sewing machine of Time ,,, learning about fashion from Renuka Batliwala at her store next to Treasures of India Dhanraj Mahal learning French at the Alliance with Alain Ficat..
Understanding the life times of Leybourne Callaghan Callaghan of India , Mr Rusi Karanjia giving him fittings at Framroze Court , his safaris were exclusively made by my Dad.
And one incident pertaining to my Dad ..He had a chela Govind , Govind made a mistake or something they say my Dad put a hot iron on his back... this was Guru Chela parampara I was very small but later Govind became Govind Master of Colaba and I meet his son when I pass my old house Jony Castle at Wodehouse Road.
I made suits for Mr Dhirubhai Ambani dressed in white dhoti and he once asked me why I wore Dhotis I answered that the Dhoti was the beginning of Fashion and when time comes to go they wrap you in a dhoti too.. he smiled ..
So the sewing machine has not left me there is one at home which I gave my wife a Singer bought in 1988..
And there are many tailoring stories many chapters , they refuse to leave me ,,, Devanand Rajesh Khanna ...and many others ..

The Camera Clubs of India Are Million Light Years From Reality
If you want to fuck up your vision your individuality as a photographer or if you want to use your camera as a crutch to walk through life do join a camera club those pompous old farts with their pedantic notion of rules old Renaissance medieval masters will never change.
Watch one of them judging pictures at a club and you will realize they are still searching for light at the end of the tunnel.
Photography is about flowering bringing out your vision and not ending up in a claustrophobic bottle crowded with frogs.
Smash the bottle of your captivity shoot what you want to shoot derail get the fuck of that one track mind ''
Initially camera clubs do more harm than good but seek a Master a Guru a Guru who will teach you to make you discover your own Path.
I may be for some a product of a camera club but I moved out just in time to hitch myself online to see enjoy the changing world of photography.
I have been part of competitive salon photograpy but there was nothing to learn it is same either this way or that way.
Camera clubs are good to meet people there is nothing new to learn.
The greatest text book on photography online was Flickr it was here I came into my own I understood the call of the wild of street photography.
My granddaughters Marziya Nerjis will never have to join a camera club I saved them from the fire and brimstone and outdated knowledge of the workings in a camera club.
I have very good friends mentors in various camera clubs of India but my views differ from them completely.. I have no formal training in photography but I was lucky to have three humble great Gurus of photography Maheshawariji Prof Jatkar and Mr Shreekant Malushte.
Rest of my Gurus are at Flickr and each one is different from the other 10 years of Flickr as a Pro Member changed my thinking without my Flickr friends I would still be searching for spectral light in the woods.
These are my personal views based on my experience at camera club level today camera clubs are about politics commerce not about imparting humility through the camera.
I know one mantra.. I learnt from my mentor Mr Devanand he said how can you shoot if you can't see.
Happy New Year
With Malice to none
Malang of Mumbai.

Encounter with Leopard in Bandipur.
Amazing Facts:
Leopards are astoundingly strong. They are pound for pound the strongest of the big cats. They are able to climb trees, even when carrying heavy prey, and often choose to rest on tree branches during the day. One reason why leopards sometimes take their prey up in the trees is to ensure lions or hyenas can’t steal them.
Leopards are renowned for their agility. They run up to 58km/h and can leap 6m horizontally and 3m vertically. They are also very strong swimmers.
The leopard is the most elusive and secretive of the large felids. They are extremely difficult to trace and locate in the wild.
Leopards are predominantly solitary animals that have large territories. While male territories are larger than females and tend to overlap, individuals usually only tolerate intrusion into ranges for mating. They mark their ranges with urine and leave claw marks on trees to warn others to stay away.
Like cats kept as companions, leopards will growl when angry and purr when content. They have various vocalisations such as a rasping cough which they perform to announce their presence to other leopards.
Leopards tend to have two or three cubs per gestation. Mothers refrain from wandering their territories after giving birth until their young are capable to come with them. Cubs suckle for around 3 months and are kept hidden for about the first 8 weeks to protect them from predators.
Leopards tend to have distinctive dark spots called rosettes, which create beautiful patterns against their otherwise light fur. Black leopards however have dark fur which makes it difficult to see the spots. They appear almost solid black and are often called black panthers.
At a recent office party, the theme was RETRO. I chose to dress like my fav film star - Dev Anand - in his 60's style, esp from movie "Gambler" particularly from song "Mera Mann Tera Pyaasa.." (My heart pines for you...)
Of course, I am a stone or two heavier than Dev Anand and not 10th as handsome. He is God! Even at the age of 89 he is playing lead in movies. One released just last week!
Disclaimer: I am not smoking, nor promoting it. This cigarette is not lit. Just that in the 60's, there was not a moment when a cigarette was not dangling from Dev Anand's lips (or any other character's) in the movies.
And a Link to the great song. Beautiful melody, voice and such romantic words!
Here is the song lyrics (Mera Mann Tera Pyaasa) and its translation
Mera Man Tera Pyaasa, Mera Man Tera
(My Heart Pines for You, My heart is Yours)
Poori Kab Hogi Aasha,
(When will my Hope be Fulfilled)
Mera Man Tera
(Heart is yours)
Jab Se Maine Dekha Tujhe Mera Dil Nahin Raha,
Mera
(From the day I set my eyes upon you, my heart is no longer,
Mine)
De De Apna Haath Mere Haathon Mein Kya Jaye,
Tera
(If you were to let me hold your hand, it would really cause no harm to,
you)
Ab To Na Todo Aasha, Mera Man Tera...
(Now don't dash my hopes, my hear is yours)
Zindagi Hai Meri Ek Daanv, Tu Hai Haar Jeet,
Meri
(My life is just a gamble, you are the victory or loss of,
mine)
Aise Vaise Kaise Bhi Tu Khel Humse Jaisi Marzi,
Teri
(Play me this way or that, it is upto,
you)
Kitni Hai Bholi Aasha, Mera Man Tera...
(That's my little innocent hope from you, my hear it yours)
Pata Nahin Kaun Hoon Maein, Kya Hoon Aur Kahan Mujhe,
Jaana
(I have no Idea of who I am, wht I am and where,
I am going)
Apni Vo Kahaani Jo Ajaani Ho Ke Ban Gayi,
Fasaana
(The story of life is so strange that it was unknown and now it is a,
Fable)
Jeevan Kya Hai, Tamaasha, Mera Man Tera...
(What is this life, a spectacle/farce? , my heart is yours)

Dev Anand rocks Mumbai streets!
Dev Anand has hit the crowded streets of Mumbai like never before!
Through to an exclusive contract with the city’s leading outdoor publicity agency Global Advetisers, huge hoardings of the evergreen actor’s co...lourised version of the 1961 hit ‘Hum Dono’, have been spread across heavy-traffic spots in the city’s most buzzing areas like Juhu, Andheri, Marine Drive, Peddar Road, Borivali, Sion and Malad.
“It’s a privilege to be associated with a legendary actor like Dev Saab. We are committed to help him repeat the success of the classic film,” said Sanjeev Gupta, MD, Global Advertisers.
Dev Anand is 87 but he doesn’t hide his excitement. He wants audiences to see his charming self 50 years ago and says he will colour more of his black and white films if ‘Hum Dono’ succeeds again.
For the record, this was the last black and white film from his production house Navketan Films and marked his first double role too. Written by his brother Vijay Anand and directed by Amarjeet, ‘Hum Dono’ became the official entry from India to the Berlin Film Festival then.
Apart from Dev Anand’s acting, the film’s music was a rage with scintillating melodies like “Main Zindagi Ka Saath” and “Abhi Na Jao Chod Kar”.
He is called Dronacharya , by the people who are very close to him, there was a splinter group called the Acharya Club that he was the honorary member, there would be get together s by this esoteric group that I found highly prejudiced towards the newcomers, the have seen it all type of guys, I dont know what happened to them
photographers the moment conceit and arrogance find residence in their souls I think doomsday has arrived.
I saw at Mr Maheshwaris house on one such gathering the other hidden face of photography, God save you from wounded photographers scarred by camera societies , every photographer wants to leave his name on the posterior of a benumbed posterity , that here lies in the chronilcles Mr XYZ President of Photographic Socitey of India…even it was for a few months only a defeated cause a defeated death …of the Art of Photography.
Mr KG Maheshwari helps a lot of photographic societies through the Maheshwari Foundation , another person that really extols him and his work is the great press photographer Anil Bhartiya, this is a genuine sincere admiration I have seen. Mr Anil Bhartiya heads his Camera Club NPPA, and he takes his students for Sand dune shootings at Jaisalmer , rain shoots at Malshej Ghats , they visited Bandipur and Kashmir too.
There are some photographers who dont like Mr KG Maheshwari s style of Photography , and will reject his prints where they sit as Judges of Photographic Salons.. KGM , Jatkar and I were consistent salon exhibitors there excuse Oh Maheshwariji has not changed his Style , this from a Master of Fine Arts and Photography.
Makes me puke all the more severely..Mr Devanand the thespian actor whose clothes I had styled for some films, who liked my change a day every day attire told me..Fashion may go out of Style but Style never goes out of Fashion.. Dev Saab has never changed his Style…so should we reject his contribution to Cinema and his Filmography.
But Mr Maheshwari is not bothered he does all he can , he is a gifted photographer..
Alll camera clubs should be shut down per se..
pathetic pilloried politics, secretaries who become lords of photography fiefdoms , old farts that are a disgrace to everything that photography stands for, ghost editors of newsletters who shamefully , venomously destroy instead of create.. the new photographer well he shoul join Mr Shrikant Malushtes classes if he is rich and loaded the very best being Girish Mistrys Shari Academy, , I for once searched chose my Gurus began my quest of Unlearning Photography, its all about big bucks the Stock agency wallahs of Mumbai have destroyed the purity of photography with their crass Marwari commercialism.. myopic megalomania..
I stand by what I have hereby seen in 5 years at the Photographic Society of India , it shames me calling myself a Photographer belonging to any club.
I gave my soul to the Photo Blog .. the photo blog dubbed me Photographerno 1.
And to be a photographer you need to be a poet from within rejuvenate your vision. shoot home made events as a salve to the wounds given to your soul by camera clubs..
I was a member of the Photographic Society of America.. it was the most depressing time of my picto unreality…I paid in Dollars now realize that money could have given joy to so many underpriviliged children in the backwaters of a poverty ridden existence.
The Photographic Society of America is pure pictorial hogwash…
The politics in camera clubs would shame even a harlot burning in helll…
update
I try not to write much about Mr KGMaheshwari as he comes from an illustrious industrialist family, they detest publicity, KGM is a very private person.. we hardly talk nowadays…I respect his silence which is as golden as his speech and my speechlessness to my Master.
