The fortress of Deva is located atop a volcano in the Poiana Ruscă Mountain Range within the Western Carpathian Mountains of Romania. The fortress is connected with the foot of the hill by an inclined lift which allows tourists to reach the fortress.
The first evidence of the medieval Deva Fortress dates back to the second half of the 13th century. In 1269, Stephen V, King of Hungary and Duke of Transylvania, mentioned "the royal castle of Deva" in a privilege-grant for the Count Chyl of Kelling (Romanian: comitele Chyl din Câlnic). (Wikipedia)
Sunset, Mesquite Dunes, Death Valley National Park, CA. I think is one of the most photographed locations in DEVA, and it's tuff to get an original composition. Another old photo, from my first digital--a point and shoot Oly C740, I think. Good thing I've got this one in 6x7 too, because it's turned out to be one of my favs.

Alone I sit, I wonder why
You dream of love and so do I
But in your sleep you cannot see
This pain which is always haunting me
What I need I'll never feel
This world is for me unreal
So I drink to darkness with a candle lit
And throught the whole night alone I sit
The Sleeping Beauty
She stops the bleeding
She stops the bledding in my soul

Chester owes its existence as a city and its plan to the Romans who established the legionary fortress of Deva in AD 76 in an advantageous position close to the Welsh mountains on a raised outcrop at the lowest bridging point on the River Dee.

Peaceful morning at my new home in the region of Elysion.
