An intimate landscape and a tiny tree growing out of the rock. This and the amazing lime color against a dark background, told an interesting story of beauty and determination.
Getting up early enough just to get that sunrise shot . The sun may go up behind that cloud and the rest of the day may be a right off weatherwise....but you've got you're shot and you don't care :)

The birds seem to have taken to perching on an old metal post just off the jetty. This makes it relatively easy to catch them in flight

83 West -This is one of the North Floridas well-known restaurants located in Cedar Key, Florida — a place that’s been part of the town’s heart for many, many years. The first floor was home to the restaurant and bar, a gathering spot for locals and visitors alike.
Unfortunately, it’s endured an incredible string of bad luck. First, Hurricane Hermine in 2016. Then Hurricane Idalia in 2023. And most recently, Hurricane Helene in late 2024. Three major storms, each badly damaging the restaurant.
But the owners haven’t given up.
They’ve vowed to rebuild — to restore the bar, the restaurant, and the spirit of this place — and one day, turn the lights back on again.
Here’s to the folks who never give up ✌️😎
Ripley playing ball yesterday afternoon - this has to be one of the craziest action shots I've captured of her to date. The combination of the liftoff and her expression makes me smile every time I look at it. I love her spirit and determination!
While photographing this heron, it was amazing the determination and patience it displayed while searching for fish.
Herons have very keen eyesight and can remain extremely still before quickly plunging its pointy beak into the water to capture its prey.

A mature tree growing through this hole in the rock. I can't imagine how many times it has suffered drought and flooding in this little crack. Amazing

He slipped down this rock trying to climb it but he was determined to get on top of it as you can see by the look on his face.
This photo was taken Wednesday 14th November, he weighed 9 kilos. I saw him yesterday and he now weighs 11 kilos. He is growing so fast, that each day you can actually see a change in him.
This guy was on mission over the sailing vessel.......since I only get to see these guys, say, once every 20 years, I requested that he change his flying route to allow for alternate background colors. These white clouds increased in speed and volume as the evening rolled around. These guys are amazing to watch..
Determined to push through to the light...I was also determined to have this happen using most unorthodox ways...

A Little Blue Heron stares determinedly at the flooded field, willing frogs to appear.
A new storm is bearing down on us even as we rebuild from the outskirts of Helene which left home and some of our favorite natural places forever changed. We’ll work on being safe (and hopefully still be sharing with you all here!) but there may be slowdowns. Already I see a change in behavior by the wildlife here.
You travel this off-road path into the unknown with courage. You don’t know what you will experience along this challenging journey of recovery and you continue on with determination because you can see that this rugged pathway of healing is healthy and worth the fight.

Another of many images I’ve taken from the passenger seat on a drive home from one of my neurofeedback appointments. I never know how these images will turn out as we’re driving down one of the highways or the interstate we travel. This process of making photos of my surroundings for a portion of the time during the 6 hours spent in the car each week as we go to and return home from my appointments really is helpful and calming for me.
This Spotted Hyena was definitely on a mission. It ran to the road, crossed between our vehicle and one other before doing a large loop around a family of lions. Whether they had a kill it had sensed or not I don’t know. We waited a while but it held its ground and didn’t approach.
After sitting perched on the top of this tree searching for its next meal, this hawk takes off to the lower branch of another tree to get a better view
Bald eagle, slowing down in flight while out hunting for prey, is never a welcome sight for whatever it has its sights on. While bald eagles, to me are more opportunistic in nature often bullying to obtain their dinner, they can still be effective in their own individual pursuit. Case in point is when they circle over a partially frozen lake, they put all of the birds resting below on alert. This mature bald eagle seems to have its sights on potential dinner below.
Bald eagles in CO are year round residents. In the winter, they share their environment with other eagles and many different kinds of raptors. Though we still another season, that is autumn, to get through before winter, I sure look forward to the plethora of birds of prey who call CO their "winter home".
