I was watching this male Downy woodpecker during a snow squall. It was determined to keep hanging onto a lilac branch, waiting to fly up to the suet feeder underneath my porch awning.
Thanks everyone for your views, awards, comments, invites and faves.
It's not the SIZE of the dog in the fight, but the size of the FIGHT in the dog
I rise and fall, yet through it all
This much remains
I want one moment in time
When I'm more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me

Nuthatch [Sitta]
At a Culzean Country Park, today. This wee guy kept trying to get piece of coconut from a shell, hanging on a tree. He was very wary of me, but was obviously quite hungry. He kept appearing, then flying off, before getting something to eat. Here, he eventually grabbed a piece and I was lucky enough to snap him before he swooped away, again.

I really do believe that most anything can be sorted out with a little determination... and a lot of coffee.
Hi There!
This chap was determined to get a place on the suet feeder which was filled with several other Yellow-rumped (Myrtle) Warblers. This was taken at my friend's house. She tells me that she can barely keep the suet feeder filled. I'll be heading back with the camera today or tomorrow to see what excitement is forthcoming!

These towers stand 250 to 300 feet above the desert floor. They are incredible all on their own. Even more so with a star filled sky.
Art lifts our spirits and reaches our soul. Artists define the character of our communities. Social distancing may keep us away from one another this holiday season, but we can still stay close. Shop art and consider a handcrafted, personal gift for your loved ones this #ArtistsSunday Nov 29, the Sunday after Thanksgiving.
A wildebeest separated from the rest of the migrating herd swims with determination to make it to the other side of the Mara River without encountering a crocodile. If it survives, hundreds of square miles of fresh green grass awaits it. September 2022 in the Masai Mara National Reserve, southwestern Kenya. ©2022 John M. Hudson
This day started beautiful but turned quickly as things can do in the desert. I had the drone up circling the towers and felt a small smack on my forehead. No it wasn't Bea, it was hail. I quickly got the drone in luckily had this shot already taken. We went back with our tails between our legs. Thanks for looking at my ridiculous attempts at professional photos!! Kris..

Busy as a Bee for sure. It may just start with determination to work hard for yourself and others who may also depend upon you. Having pride in what we do and how we perform our duties can be a reflection on how we see ourselves and how we learned some of life’s more important lessons. Always doing our best in whatever it is we do is like putting our personal signature on our accomplishments. Do your best, stand tall and be proud. Thanks for viewing my work. Stay safe and stay determined.
As I was on my way to work, a crow kept on attacking me for no apparent reason at all.
They say that if this happens, a crow’s nest is most probably near by. Well, that’s the determination to protect I saw that day even though I’m not doing anything wrong.
This piece is the first one I draw in Washington and it is based on Mr. Lorcan Keating’s photography as I obviously cannot sketch while I’m being attacked ;)

Last blooming sunflower here at home. The sweltering temps wilted the petals and they never filled out completely, but it rose to the occasion. This sunnie is a mammoth variety and it is 7 ft. tall.
This little White-eyed Vireo certainly set the tone for our Christmas Bird Count, and was one of the less common species we sighted at the start of our seven-hour count.
No matter where I have lived, I have always gravitated to the birds of prey ... the raptors. To me, there's something fascinating about their beaks, their wings, the look of concentration and determination, but mainly their talons. When a raptor flies over me, especially when they bank and show off their underside, or topside, of their body, it's so cool. Red-tailed hawks are the most variable of all of the buteos, depending on where they are found and also their color morphs. Of course, don't forget how their feather patterns change as they molt. It really makes a challenge for species specific ID.
I could raptor all day long and be happy ... we get all sorts of raptors visiting us throughout the winter and some visit during the summer.
This red-tailed hawk flew over me at a relatively close range (though this image is most likely cropped some for balance). The extended wingspan was amazing to view, with every feather serving a purpose. Love these raptors.
Happy Monday!
