I was watching this male Downy woodpecker during a snow squall. It was determined to keep hanging onto a lilac branch, waiting to fly up to the suet feeder underneath my porch awning.
Thanks everyone for your views, awards, comments, invites and faves.
This downy woodpecker was waiting to fly up to the suet feeder during a snow squall one winter. It was grasping a lilac branch outside one of my windows. This was taken in Northeastern PA.

Even when it snows hard outside and I put plenty of food out for the squirrels there is always one that has to raid the bird feeders.
It's not the SIZE of the dog in the fight, but the size of the FIGHT in the dog
I rise and fall, yet through it all
This much remains
I want one moment in time
When I'm more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me

At a Culzean Country Park, today. This wee guy kept trying to get piece of coconut from a shell, hanging on a tree. He was very wary of me, but was obviously quite hungry. He kept appearing, then flying off, before getting something to eat. Here, he eventually grabbed a piece and I was lucky enough to snap him before he swooped away, again.

I really do believe that most anything can be sorted out with a little determination... and a lot of coffee.

Hi There!
This chap was determined to get a place on the suet feeder which was filled with several other Yellow-rumped (Myrtle) Warblers. This was taken at my friend's house. She tells me that she can barely keep the suet feeder filled. I'll be heading back with the camera today or tomorrow to see what excitement is forthcoming!

These towers stand 250 to 300 feet above the desert floor. They are incredible all on their own. Even more so with a star filled sky.

This is (now) my local crag, and the place my dear old Dad first took me climbing 14 years ago. I often pop up for sunset because it's frustratingly hard to photograph, and I'm never happy with my images!
This made me laugh happy though. Incredible how far we've come in a matter of months:

Taking back control and getting rid of all that red tape, eh? 😆 Happy weekend!
Our first born, the poor child who had to go through all the experimental stages and yet she not only survived them but came through with flying colours! We are blessed to have you in our lives and have enjoyed your many wins in not always an easy life. Thank you for keeping us in your life and continuing my "Save the Family" theme. We love you darling more than you can imagine!
With heartfelt and genuine thanks for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day, be well, keep your eyes open, appreciate the beauty surrounding you, enjoy creating, stay safe and laugh often! ❤️❤️❤️
Watching this bee jump from flower to flower it was determined to find just what exactly suited its taste. When the seasons pass so quickly this is one small thing that I will miss. “Determination” drives this bee to exactly what it wants, as will my determination keep me patient to repeat this very photo-op next Summer. Thanks for viewing my work. Be grateful and kind.

view of the Krzyżtopór Castle in Ujazd (Zamek Krzyżtopór w Ujeździe) from the south
Krzyżtopór is a castle located in the village of Ujazd, Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, in southern Poland. It was originally built by a Polish nobleman and Voivode of Sandomierz, Krzysztof Ossoliński (1587–1645). The castle was partially destroyed during the Swedish invasion known as The Deluge in 1655, and then reduced to ruins during the war of the Bar Confederation by the Russians in 1770.
Even though extensive research has been carried out through the years, historians have been unable to fully explain all aspects of the complex. No documents have been preserved that have enabled the determination of either the date of commencement of the castle's construction or the date of its completion. The name of the architect is also unknown. Krzysztof Ossoliński was enamoured with magic. while the unique symmetry of the castle is evident even in its ruined state, the hidden meanings that may have been incorporated into virtually every part of the castle are not obvious.
The very name of the complex is a mysterious one. Krzysztof Ossoliński officially named it Krzysztofory, which is derived from Latin word Christophoros. Later, the name changed to Krzyżtopór, which is a compounding of two Polish words – krzyż ("cross", a symbol of the Catholic faith and Ossoliński's policies) and topór ("axe", the charge from the family's coat of arms). Both symbols can be seen on the gate of the castle. Also, above the gate there is the date 1631, but to what this date refers has not been firmly established.
The castle, built by Swiss engineer Wawrzyniec (Lawrence) Senes (probably born in Sent, Switzerland), is a typical example of the so-called palazzo in fortezza – an intermingling of both palace and fortress. The total size of the complex is 1.3 hectares; the length of the perimeter walls is 700 meters; the total area of all interior rooms is around 70 000 square meters. The basic design was based on the palace of Cardinal Alexander Farnese, located in the Italian village of Caprarola. Reportedly, the castle once had 365 windows (as many as days of the year), 52 rooms (as many as weeks of the year), 12 ballrooms (as many as months of the year) and also 4 towers (as many as 4 seasons of the year). For defensive purposes, the castle was erected upon a rocky hill, making it impossible for an enemy to organize an underground attack.
Krzyżtopór was furnished with amenities that were rarely seen in the 17th century, such as ventilation and heating system, and unique waterworks that provided all rooms with fresh water. Allegedly, the ceiling in one of dining rooms was made up of an aquarium containing exotic fish. Additionally, a system of dumbwaiters carried food from pantries to the upper floors.
The castle, without convenient proximity to main roads and rail connections, is visited by relatively few tourists. However, as walls, bastions and moat are relatively well-preserved, its magnitude is still very impressive. Though it is regarded as a permanent ruin, since around 90 percent of the walls have been preserved, reconstruction has been planned several times. Currently, efforts have been underway to roof the entire complex; however, this ambitious project lacks sufficient funding.
This day started beautiful but turned quickly as things can do in the desert. I had the drone up circling the towers and felt a small smack on my forehead. No it wasn't Bea, it was hail. I quickly got the drone in luckily had this shot already taken. We went back with our tails between our legs. Thanks for looking at my ridiculous attempts at professional photos!! Kris..

A flock of snow geese on the ground will periodically erupt into the air, circle around, and then return to continue their foraging. It is an impressive sight to see (and to hear). It would seem that you can't take a bad picture of such an event, but it is actually maddeningly frustrating. I selected this image (among many, many) because my eye was able to settle on the one goose in the lower left. Now I understand a bit better the phenomenon that a group can foil a predator because the abundance of prey ironically makes choosing a single one difficult.

I saw this little snail on my garden table heading in its own pace straight to the potted sunflower, not even hesitating when I came pretty close with my camera. That is determination!
I then moved the snail to another safe, green area.
