I found these notes in the crawlspace of our house when we moved in. The sole documentation of an apparently somewhat short-lived detective make-believe session, er, career.

I am finally getting around to completing the tag Sparrow gave me! It seems every time I would sit down to do it something would happen. You were to write a little something from the view of one of your dolls, I just had Nina tell a little about herself. So here it is!
“Hello! I’m Nina. I was the first girl to come live with Alec so we have a very special relationship and we have shared many adventures. I love adventure! Adventure is one of the thing I crave most so mix that with my love of a good mystery = enjoying to be a detective now and then. If there’s a mystery, I’m on it! Nancy Drew is Alec and mine’s hero’s. I am also obsessed with all things medieval. This seems to be a common fascination among this household so I’m not alone in this craze. I’m married to my wonderful husband, Allan. We love each other so much! We have so much fun just spending time outside enjoy nature and being together. My best friend, after Allan, is Leah. We have been friends since I first came here so we also have had many adventures and I cherish her friendship. We have been through a lot. I can’t stand injustice. I feel very deeply for those who suffer from it and I try to help in anyway I can. I love those around me very much. I feel like sort of the leader of the gang, I take this responsibility very seriously.”
I’m also tagging some people, if your name’s not on there but you want to join in, hop on over and join the fun! xD

Another lost and found photo album.
I don't know anything about its background but hope to find out more through research and what other people can identify.
Please take a look to see if you see something that can help us find out more about the family in the pictures.
So far I don't know much about the family, it is a little confusing but interesting.
At first sight it looks like a German family but there are also photos of a Dutch ship, the August Maria, from Rotterdam.
But also pictures from a coffin maker with a swastika by the window, German clothes and other bits that seem to be German.
We also see a parade, probably royalty, could be Prince Bernhard and Princess Juliana.
I think that perhaps this family lived on a ship and sailed between Rotterdam in the Netherlands and Germany.
Any extra information is more than welcome.
Photo also shared and researched in the Photo Detectives facebook group;
I watch History Detectives all the time, maybe I watch too much public television. Anyways, here is a shot of Tufuku Zuberi. I was playing around with shutter speeds today :)
Jerome Caminada, who was Manchester’s most celebrated detective of his or any age, was born on 15th March 1844. Jerome’s father, Francis Caminada, was originally from Lombardy.
He joined the Manchester City Police on February 20th 1868. He started as a beat constable in the Town Centre or “A” Division. In 1871 he was promoted sergeant, and transferred to the Detective Department, which was then part of the non-territorial “E” division, based at Headquarters in the basement of the Town Hall. In 1882 Caminada was promoted to detective inspector, and in 1884 he was made chief detective inspector, solving many notable cases along the way.
He is said to have been responsible for 1225 offenders ending up behind bars and also the closing of over 400 pubs.
He often operated in disguise and would remain in hiding - often in very strange places such as inside a piano - for many hours to catch a wanted person.
His most famous case was the Manchester Cab Murder of 1889 which he solved and then saw the culprit prosecuted in three weeks.
Caminada took the unusual step of publishing details of his police service in an autobiography whilst still a serving officer. The first volume of “Twenty Five Years of Detective Life” (Heywood, Manchester and London) appeared in late 1895 to local acclaim. The second volume appeared in 1901.
On 2nd December 1897 he was appointed superintendent of E Division, and retired on 31st March 1899. He was then living at 2 Mount St. Bernard Denmark Road, in the upmarket district of Whitworth Park, Moss Side in Manchester.
In retirement he became an estate agent and property manager. He was also an active member of the Ratepayers Association and served as a City Councilor between 1907 and 1910. He died on March 10th 1914 at his home in Denmark Road.
His legendary status and great exploits are still recognised and celebrated by the Caminada Society, a group of retired detectives who now meet in his honour.

Any PBS fans out there catch the Kolo Lucino on History Detectives this week?
A woman who is descended from none other than Copperhead activist Henry Clay Dean (1822-1887)-- who vehemently opposed the U.S. Civil War -- inherited a copperhead cane said to belong to him. History detective Wes Cowan set about proving the cane’s provenance, and entrusted invaluable photographs and documents that he uncovered to an archival Kolo Lucino presentation book in red/platinum.
In Life On the Mississippi, Mark Twain said of Dean:
"He was an orator - by nature in the first place, and later by the training of experience and practice. When he was out on a canvass, his name was a lodestone which drew the farmers to his stump from fifty miles around. His theme was always politics. He used no notes, for a volcano does not need notes."
Interesting episode. Watch it here.
For some great Copperhead political cartoons from the 1850s and 1860s, go here.
The cover of this book is okay. It has an insignia of an eagle (?); a fingerprint and some crime scene tape. The packaging was different too. It is actually a steno book inside. On the back is a card that students can cut out that says Police Agent on it and kids are supposed to add their photo and id information
I'm doing an e-book version and will be putting together my own art, so I hope to do better.
