We try to make at least one trip to the Des Moines Farmer's market each summer. This is a great opportunity to photograph a new subject matter. These are mostly crowd scenes shot in a very free style manner. Due to an unfortunate data accident I have only about half of the captures I planed to post. (Missing a lot of the bright vegetable shots) I may have to plan at least one more trip south this summer. Enjoy the Des Moines Saturday morning street scene.

And... Yes the birds were really there.
Another first day of school of sorts in Des Moines. After beginning the school year online, the school district is easing back into in-person learning. Today about a third of the elementary school students returned to the classroom, complete with masks, hand sanitizers and water bottle filling stations.
Photos taken of a restoration of an old train depot in the East Village of downtown Des Moines. One step in the project: tearing down a cement block warehouse that was added on to the depot. The north face of the depot is now visible for the first time in decades.

Some photos taken for work at Des Moines Public Schools' agricultural campus. Even though the school district is shut down for the COVID-19 pandemic, students are still reporting two at a time to do chores caring and feeding the animals. On thing that happened while schools are closed: two baby goats were born.

Walked out of our hotel in Des Moines and saw this while crossing the street headed for dinner and drinks. Told the wife, hold on and went back to the room to get my camera and tripod. Not my best work but came out pretty good for an unplanned last minute shot.
Visited the JROTC air rifle team at North High School in Des Moines. Like many high school sports and activities their season has been up and down because of the pandemic, but they are back and preparing to qualify for the national championship for the 19th year in a row.

Two weeks following the Iowa State Fair and the garden is still nice. It is a garden for the bugs, butterflies, and bees now!
Used a pinhole camera to capture some of the snow that recently fell in Des Moines. Something got a little off in my developing in a way that I kind of like.

Des Moines Public Schools and Special Olympics have been doing more and more work over the past year or two around the Unified Champions School program, providing an opportunity for students of different abilities to compete together. While taking photos of a recent varsity basketball game between Hoover and North high schools I had a chance to catch the action of the schools' unified basketball teams.
