At last I'm free from my forever business travel. One of the things I wanted to do once I did was to change things up on my desk. It's nice being able to see my PC.
Windows 8 Inspired Desktop.
The background images were taken from flatmo1 at DeviantArt (http://flatmo1.deviantart.com/art/EIGHT-Firefox-start-page-212847573?offset=10#comments).
To save resources I took a screenshot of the backgrounds after assembling them and removed the background to transparent to use in Geektools and other wallpapers.
I should get back to studying...

An incredible productivity boost.
Get the full size version and set it as your desktop background. Make sure you select a *centred* layout instead of *stretched to fit*, or the fine lines will be blurred.
Use it to organise your icons in groups, like:
- the paper area for work stuff;
- the aluminium plate for personal projects;
- the wooden desk for yet to be categorised elements, like finished or in-progress downloads.
- the post-it for urgent elements.
The image works well with displays up to 1440px wide and up to 1024px tall, in either standard or wide aspect ratios. If you have a bigger screen, I hate you :-)

Valensole
Valensole is situated in the middle of a magnificent plateau of lavender and almond trees and is true to its name: Valensole comes from the Latin "vallis" and "solis" meaning the valley of sun.
Valensole has been able to conserve its character and charm typical of Haute Provence villages.
It is a pleasure to stroll through the narrow streets of the old city. It is also a health resort well appreciated for its pure fresh air.
The countryside all around (plateau de Valensole ) is pertectly beautiful especially in the spring when the almond trees are in bloom. In the summer aromas of lavender and thym waft through the air confirming the fact that Valensole is one of the most important producers of lavender in Provence.

Picture taken with a hand-held SB 600 equipped with a small primitive softbox made of printer paper and triggered by CLS.
Update on light setup:
Some week ago I took 5 minutes and made s quick prototype of this smart DIY softbox out of ordinary printer paper and just used printer paper for front to see how it would fit together.
With this mounted on my sb-600 I held the flash with my left hand left and above the small cleaning man.
I am looking for the right material to build my serious version of this softbox since I think the idea is the best mini-softbox design I have seen.
This is my notebook's desktop at the moment because I'm playing Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time for the DS right now, and I'm loving it. It matches my cellphone's Paper Mario theme too.

I usually create desktops that are a bit more slick and less... human, but I couldn't help myself after finding the screengrab (from the movie Easy A starring Emma Stone).
The rainmeter config, font and start orb can be found here.

The system stats on the taskbar is the standard Enigma config that comes with Rainmeter.
The dock is Rocket Dock and the icons, along with the taskbar icons, are Ecqlipse 2

UPDATE: I have fixed the iTunes and Clock text cutting error, at least for my resolution. I have also added Rainmeter configs for RAM, CPU and SWAP thanks to dberm22 plus HDD. Any problems, let me know!
I've spent the past day making heavy modifications to some Rainmeter scripts, and this is the result. I've got a thing for the Rockwell font at the moment.
