0Q57 Worksop to Derby Litchurch Lane. The new order. Class 93 is a new tri-mode locomotive designed for both freight and passenger services, capable of operating on 25kV AC overhead lines, a diesel engine, and battery power. Developed by Stadler Rail and operated by Rail Operations Group (ROG), it aims to improve efficiency and reduce emissions on the UK rail network.
It can run on 25kV AC overhead power, a diesel engine, and battery power, allowing for flexible operation on electrified and non-electrified lines. The Class 93 can reach a top speed of 110 mph (177 km/h). The tri-mode system aims to reduce emissions and fuel consumption compared to traditional diesel locomotives, with battery power enabling zero-emission operation in some situations. It is designed as a mixed-traffic locomotive, suitable for both freight and passenger trains. The locomotive is designed to optimize efficiency across the network and potentially enable higher speeds for freight trains, integrating them more smoothly with passenger services.
