This is still the epicentre of town life in Derby, northern Tasmania. The general store is just that, providing a range of services, including the post office and a banking agency. Even here one of the young cyclists takes a rest.

The really interesting feature in this photograph is the original 3-D Peters ice cream sign complete with cone. I haven't seen one of those in many years.

In the spirit of the Kentucky Derby this Saturday, I decided to share (with permission) a shot I took of a horse.

First let me say that I have been asked to photograph weddings, friends’ kids, senior pictures and the like for several years now…always declining in an attempt to keep my photography as therapeutic as possible. But when a lifelong friend asks you to photograph his horses, it becomes an honor.

What I didn’t see coming is that trying to get a good photo of three horses is EQUALLY AS HARD as getting a good photo of my three grandchildren. Getting them to face the same way, no blinking (or drool), keeping them clean and from rolling in the grass…the list goes on and on. To their credit, at least the grands keep their ears up!

In this shot, to get those ears up, I decided to drop to the ground and give out my patten pending* critter yelp. The yelp has been utilized to turn the heads of several species like bighorn sheep, bison, coyote, deer, moose and bobcat. This summer I hope to add muskox and wolf to the list for marketing purposes!

So, this is the look a horse gives when a fat Italian guy falls to the ground and yelps…perfect for placement above a urinal to ensure a shy bladder / urinary retention!

0Q57 Worksop to Derby Litchurch Lane. The new order. Class 93 is a new tri-mode locomotive designed for both freight and passenger services, capable of operating on 25kV AC overhead lines, a diesel engine, and battery power. Developed by Stadler Rail and operated by Rail Operations Group (ROG), it aims to improve efficiency and reduce emissions on the UK rail network.

It can run on 25kV AC overhead power, a diesel engine, and battery power, allowing for flexible operation on electrified and non-electrified lines. The Class 93 can reach a top speed of 110 mph (177 km/h). The tri-mode system aims to reduce emissions and fuel consumption compared to traditional diesel locomotives, with battery power enabling zero-emission operation in some situations. It is designed as a mixed-traffic locomotive, suitable for both freight and passenger trains. The locomotive is designed to optimize efficiency across the network and potentially enable higher speeds for freight trains, integrating them more smoothly with passenger services.

Wearing its inspired New Haven Railroad scheme, Brookville BL20GH 127 makes its station stop in Derby. This paint scheme is no longer a sight in Connecticut as CDOT did away with its railroad heritage. Their six BL20s and six GP40s were overhauled and painted into the CTrail livery, more commonly referred to as the "Coke Zero" or "Xbox" scheme. The only locomotives left in New Haven McGinnis colors are the four P32AC-DMs 228-231, which call home to Metro-North.
