When this Town Hall was built in 1923 the town of Derby in northeastern Tasmania was at its peak. In 1874 George Renison Bell discovered tin deposits in the area and prospectors quickly flooded in. The first major mining endeavour was by the Krushka brothers, and in fact the settlement's first name was "Brother's Home". In 1885 the growing town was renamed Derby.

By the end of the 19th century the Krushka Brothers alone were producing up to 120 tonnes of tin per month. The Cascade River, which flowed into the lower Ringarooma River, provided a natural flow of water into a dam which was used to wash out the tin oxide from the granite rocks. But in 1929, just a few short years after this lovely Town Hall was built, a huge flood of the Cascade River destroyed the dam and flooded the town, killing 14 people.

It took several years to get the mine running again, but it never reached the heights of the previous decades and finally closed in 1948.

That's right , a shot from Epsom Downs near to the Derby Race Course looking up at the intriguing clouds . In exposing for the clouds the ground and trees were darkened so instead of lightening the shadows I went the other way and made the scene a silhouette under the clouds .

This is still the epicentre of town life in Derby, northern Tasmania. The general store is just that, providing a range of services, including the post office and a banking agency. Even here one of the young cyclists takes a rest.

The really interesting feature in this photograph is the original 3-D Peters ice cream sign complete with cone. I haven't seen one of those in many years.

I hadn't intended to go to this location this morning as was meant to be capturing a nice sunrise elsewhere, but didn't set my alarm correctly. I needn't have worried as the sunrise never happened anyway..

0Q57 Worksop to Derby Litchurch Lane. The new order. Class 93 is a new tri-mode locomotive designed for both freight and passenger services, capable of operating on 25kV AC overhead lines, a diesel engine, and battery power. Developed by Stadler Rail and operated by Rail Operations Group (ROG), it aims to improve efficiency and reduce emissions on the UK rail network.

It can run on 25kV AC overhead power, a diesel engine, and battery power, allowing for flexible operation on electrified and non-electrified lines. The Class 93 can reach a top speed of 110 mph (177 km/h). The tri-mode system aims to reduce emissions and fuel consumption compared to traditional diesel locomotives, with battery power enabling zero-emission operation in some situations. It is designed as a mixed-traffic locomotive, suitable for both freight and passenger trains. The locomotive is designed to optimize efficiency across the network and potentially enable higher speeds for freight trains, integrating them more smoothly with passenger services.

There's lots wrong with this image, which is probably why I've never published it before, I've removed a lamp post that was growing from the bottom of the shot right through the first wagon. The mast annoys the sh*t out of me (I have removed it in photoshop in some previous photos but cba now), however the view isn't possible now due to the new bridge, and that tree that's now even bigger..
