Eye-searingly bright woodpecker decked out in primary colors. Combination of black face, pale eyes, yellow throat, green wings, bright red rump, and white belly is unmistakable. Males also have a bright red crown patch. Prefers dry deciduous and coniferous forests, usually in the lowlands and foothills. Moves about in small noisy bands. Song is a rollicking, rhythmic series of rather dry, husky yelps, somewhat reminiscent of chickens or deranged laughing, that often starts up seemingly out of nowhere. (eBird)

We first saw her in the gloom of the early morning before she flew into this brightly lit tree. What a beauty. Seen just twice, both times in the same national park, I was very pleased to be able to get this distant shot of her searching the tree for breakfast.

Quelle joie, lorsque Marie m'a signalé leur présence et quelle chance d'être en repos cette semaine ...Un grand merci, Marie!
La femelle est très craintive , lorsqu'elle arrive à la loge, que le mâle vient de quitter, elle pousse de petits cris ...le mâle lui répond par un puissant tambourinage émis par des percussions du bec sur un tronc d'arbre ...on peut l'entendre de très loin ...Ce couple s'est accouplé plusieurs fois...J'espère que leur nichée sera couronnée de succès et que des poussins naitront bientôt....
Ces photos sont faites sans dérangement, au moyen de filets de camouflage et dans le plus grand respect de ces oiseaux

What joy, when Marie informed me of their presence and how lucky to be at rest this week... A big thank you, Marie!
The female is very fearful, when she arrives at the lodge, which the male has just left, she utters small cries ... the male responds with a powerful drumming emitted by percussion of the beak on a tree trunk. ..we can hear it from very far away...This couple has mated several times...I hope their brood will be successful and that chicks will be born soon....
These photos are taken without disturbance, using camouflage nets and with the greatest respect for these birds.

Le Bihoreau gris est en très forte régression dans toute l'Europe à cause de la disparition des zones humides, des dérangements lors de la nidification et de la pollution des eaux provoquant la diminution des ressources alimentaires....
Quelle chance d'avoir immortalisé cette belle famille, sans dérangement et dans le plus grand respect de la vie sauvage

Cette aigrette garzette pas du tout dérangée par ma présence est venue pécher à une dizaine de mètres de moi. Le temps était agréable, 16° pas de vent et une magnifique lumière en cette fin octobre dans le baie de Goulven (Nord Finistère). un vrai régal...

We don’t allow the cats on our countertops here and Tinker looked totally deranged as he tried to convince me he didn’t mean to get up there! LOL! Taken for the Happy Caturday! Group: innocent? Still a drive for cell signal as AT&T lets us down day after day, week after week- no internet service. We cannot seem to get any help. It’s not lines. It’s a matter of network settings they have changed that I have no control over. I have felt desperately cut off from the world.
Le Héron cendré peut avoir des attitudes curieuses. Il peut rester des heures, posé sur une seule patte , complètement inactif s'il n'est pas dérangé. Il enfonce son cou dans les épaules, seule la tête et le bec à l'horizontale semblent surgir de son corps. Sa manière de chasser est particulière. Il chemine lentement et courbé, dans les eaux peu profondes, sans faire de bruit, pointant vers le bas son bec puissant et pointu, prêt à asséner le coup mortel à la proie qui passera à sa portée.
Parfois, il reste immobile dans l'eau, observant le fond devant lui et sur les côtés afin de capturer habilement le moindre poisson qui passe.
Pour les grosses proies, (grand poisson ou anguille importante), il les frappe fortement de son bec pour les transpercer, et les secoue d'un côté à l'autre, avant de les avaler entières, tête la première.

The Gray Heron may have curious attitudes. It can remain hours, resting on a single leg, completely inactive if it is not disturbed. For large prey (large fish or large eel), it strikes them strongly with its beak to pierce them, and shakes them from one side to the other, before swallowing whole, head first.
La sauterelle géante a bondi d'entre les genévriers, née bien avant le déluge et désormais noyée entre les pins pressés de frôler les nuages.
Les antennes vibrantes, furieuse d'avoir été dérangée à l'heure promise du grand repos, la course hésitante, elle tentait un dernier bond, simulant une charge désespérée, pitoyable intimidation.
Sa nidification habituelle dans les dunes à proximité des plages fréquentées rend cette espèce très vulnérable. Celui ci couvait quasiment au milieu de la plage, la zone de son nid était "protégée" par un balisage mais cela est bien faible face à des chiens en balades.
J'espère ne pas l'avoir trop dérangé en voulant à tout prix le photographier.

🇫🇷 •La présence de bovins faméliques a Girolata préoccupe les associations et des particuliers se réclamant du bien être animal.. Ces bovins sont issus d'un cheptel d'animaux vivant à l'état sauvage entre Galeria et Osani. Ils n’ont aucun maitre, et aucun éleveur bovin n’a d'activité dans Ie secteur. Ils sont issus de troupeaux qui étaient autrefois entretenus par des éleveurs aujourd'hui pour la plupart disparus.
Deux ruisseaux débouchent sur la plage de Glrolata forment des points d'eau où les animaux peuvent s’abreuver. Cela explique leur arrivée sur ce site malgré le dérangement des nombreux touristes qui y circulent durant l'été.
. Des dizaines de bovins sillonnent le maquis dans ce secteur et trouvent leur subsistance dans les environs du village En été la nourriture se raréfie avec la sécheresse… Et L’absence de réseau routier empêche de leur apporter de la nourriture…

🇬🇧The presence of starving cattle in Girolata is a cause for concern among animal welfare organisations and individuals. These cattle come from a herd of animals living in the wild between Galeria and Osani. They have no owner, and there are no cattle farmers operating in the area. They come from herds that were once maintained by farmers, most of whom are now gone.
Two streams flow onto Glrolata beach, forming watering holes where the animals can drink. This explains why they have come to this site, despite the disturbance caused by the many tourists who visit during the summer.
Dozens of cattle roam the scrubland in this area and find food in the vicinity of the village. In summer, food becomes scarce due to drought... And the lack of a road network makes it impossible to bring them food...

« Débredinoire » vient du mot « bredin », signifiant « simple d’esprit » en dialecte bourbonnais. Au VIIème siècle, un évêque celte dénommé Ménulphe, passa par le village, alors nommé Mailly et y mourut. Ce saint homme était réputé pour rendre leurs esprits aux personnes un peu dérangées. Le village est alors rebaptisé Saint-Menoux et une abbaye de Bénédictines est créée au Xème siècle pour accueillir les pèlerins. Dans le sarcophage contenant les restes de Saint-Menoux autrement, appelé Saint-Ménulphe, vous trouverez un trou en demi-cercle dans lequel les « simples d’esprit » passent la tête afin de recouvrer leur santé mentale : chasser toute leur « bredinerie » ou traiter les maux de tête.
Fidèle serviteur de Menulphe, Blaise, simple d'esprit (localement dit « bredin »), entreprit de percer un trou sur le flanc du sarcophage du saint homme, pour y passer la tête et continuer à l’honorer. A force de « visites » et monologues, la légende dit que Blaise en serait ressorti "débrediné" grâce à un ultime miracle du défunt... Depuis, le village de Saint-Menoux est devenu lieu de « pèlerinage », et il est de bon ton de passer la tête dans la débredinoire afin d'y abandonner sa folie. Gare à ne pas toucher les bords en y glissant votre tête, au risque d’hériter de toute la folie des visiteurs précédents.

Une "fausse" envolée. Les oies ont du être dérangées par un bruit. Elles ont presque toutes décollé en même temps pour revenir se poser quelques secondes plus tard.

When this intrusion occurred, the Butterfly got disturbed, moved its head to the right and flapped its wings, taking me by surprise as I was taking the photo.
The consequences are obvious : a bit of the left antenna is missing, as well as the end of the Butterfly's tails.
To me, the picture still is appealing. To a purist, it's a fail.
Quand une de vos photos est "photobombed", un intrus entre dans l'image, volontairement ou non, comme le petit insecte volant que l'on devine au-dessus du Papillon.
Lorsque cette intrusion a eu lieu, elle a derange le Machaon, qui a bouge la tete et battu des ailes, me prenant par surprise alors que j'appuyais sur le declencheur.
Les consequences sont visibles : il manque un petit bout de l'antenne gauche, de meme que le bout des deux queues du Papillon.
Pour ma part, je trouve quand meme l'image plaisante a l'oeil. Pour un puriste (Nocte - wink !) c'est une image ratee :)

We are fortunate to have many birds this winter, including six species of owls.
This little owl was resting on a branch at eye level. After waiting three hours, it woke up and gave us plenty of opportunities to photograph it for half an hour.
Cette petite chouette était perchée à la hauteur des yeux directement dans un sentier, ce qui ennuyait les marcheurs lorsque nous leur demandions de faire le tour pour ne pas la déranger. :-)

J'ai pu observer le comportement de ce limicole cette année car ils étaient nombreux à la Baie Missisquoi. Ils sont très actifs et bougent tout le temps, les 2 pieds dans l'eau, à la recherche de nourriture. Ils ont un cri strident et s'en servent quand ils se font déranger par des humains ou d'autres oiseaux. Celui-ci ne se souciait pas de moi et quand je l'ai vu monter sur ce tas d'algues et me montrer ses 2 pieds, j'ai pensé à mon frère Gilles qui dit que c'est beau une photo de limicole quand on lui voit les pieds. /
I was able to observe the behavior of this shorebird this year because there were many of them in Missisquoi Bay. They are very active and move all the time, 2 feet in the water, in search of food. They have a shrill cry and use it when disturbed by humans or other birds. This one did not care about me and when I saw him climb on this pile of algae and show me his 2 feet, I thought of my brother Gilles who said that it is beautiful a photo of shorebird when we can see his feet.
