This was one of the photos I shot for my photography class. Our assignment was to play with depth of field.

first try with depth of field

I couldn't decide if I liked this better than the other depth photo. Water is foreground, boats are middle ground, clouds and lights are background

An extended family member aiming down his sight. I wanted my buddy to be the main point. I wanted to show that I was hiding behind a object to look as if I was spying.

Depth of Field

I loved this project so much because of the simplicity of it. It was easy to understand and the shooting was a lot easier.I didn’t have any difficulties during this project and was able to shoot everything in three days.

Finding the correct aperture was easier when I had my exposure chart in front of me. As I got the hang of it, I was able to shoot without the chart. I eventually knew what shutter speed I needed to match the aperture that was required for the project.

I took these three images of the flower with different depths of field. One is shallow, one is middle and the last one is greater depth of field. The shallow depth of field I used for the first photo was 1/250 @ f/5. I wanted the shallow depth to be noticeable but not too out there. f/5 was the second lowest setting on my camera and I think it turned out great. The middle depth of field used for the second photo was 1/200 @ f/6.3. I didn't want the middle depth to have a more defined look so I only upped the aperture by a little so when looking at the photo, it becomes more clear. The last photo was greater depth of field at 1/50 @ f/13. I think that the f/13 really stood out from the rest because is jumped 7 apertures.

I chose the flower because this is one of the only flowers that stays all year round in my back yard. It sits behind a rose bush and next to a perch my dog sits at when he wants to bark at the cars below. That flower has been there for as long as I can remember and the only plant I've not over or under watered causing it to die.

By doing all these things, I had an easy time shooting these photos. Because I understood the goal of this project, taking photos didn’t feel like homework, it felt like a fun time taking photos of the interesting things around my neighborhood. I think I successfully learned how to adjust the depth of field on my camera.

f-stop: f6.3

shutter speed: 1/60

My last photo shows a combination of depth and shutter speed. The lense is focused on the fountain and farther water spray, blurring out the spray closer to the camera. As for motion, the fountain spurts out a stream of water at a consistent, fast pace; at a shutter speed of 1/60, you can almost feel the flow of water coming out of the fountain.

03Gonzalez03 Depth - This photo was my favorite because it shows a lot of texture, and I used a large depth of field.

Scavenger Hunt: Manual - Deep Depth of Field

The handout talked about depth of field so... Taken with a compact camera at the BBC Photo Club Macro workshop.

Large depth of field along with the longer focal length squish everything here into flatness. There is very little sense of space looking at this even though the trees, houses, and sign are far from each other.

Design Principle- Shallow Depth of Field

Aperture= F5.6

Shutter Speed=1/60

ISO=400

Focal length=145 mm

Depth of field is shown in this picture

This I posted because it was halloween week. This is depth of field because the pumpkin in the front stands out more than the one in the background.

F-stop-10.0

I'm including this one because it was my first attempt at using color enhancement software to modify my image.

I actually think I enhanced it a little too much (the original background was light pink) as there is a bit of glare and loss of sharpness in parts, but it does give it a sort of artisitic look.

Rules of Composition

-This photo has a foreground, middle ground and background. It creates a depth of the field and the focus of the objects

Why is this a good picture

- It has a center focus of the three different colors, it has a simple background and it follows the rules of the composition.

How can this be improved

- The control of brightness on the objects or take this picture from a different angle
