U.S. Army National Guard Sgt. Justin Locke and Spc. Veronika Hughbanks, both motor transport operators assigned to 2113th Transportation Company from Paducah, Kentucky, and deployed to Świętoszów, conduct the first transaction at the opening of an Army Air Force Exchange Store at the unit's Forward Operating Site in Poland, Feb. 26, 2024. Task Force Provider, as part of a rotation of forces in Europe, is working to set the V Corps area of operations for sustainment and improve quality of life facilities for Soldiers stationed there. The 3rd Infantry Division deployed to Europe to engage in multinational training and operations to build readiness for contingency response and deter adversaries.

On January 29, 2012 I was proud to participate in the Deployment Ceremony for 130 members of the NY Fighting 69th Regiment of the NYNG, 27th NY Infantry Division as they head overseas. I was especially proud of a soldier among them who was a former student of mine, Pvt. Michael Fiume. We should all be very proud of these soldiers and keep them in our thoughts and prayers as they head into harms way.

BURNS DEPLOYED TO AFGHANISTAN - (Left to Right) Shawn, Dawnelle and Matthew Burns. Shawn Burns, Army, WO3 (Warrant Officer 3) of Runaway Bay was deployed to Germany and from Germany to Afghanistan for two years on Monday, May 7. Shawn's wife, Dawnelle Burns, and three sons will be living in Runaway Bay while Shawn is gone. Their son Matt will graduate from high school June 1. A going away party for Shawn and a graduation party for Matthew was held Saturday, May 5, giving Shawn the opportunity to celebrate with his son. Approximately 20 friends and family attended the party to express their well wishes. Dawnell is captain of the Runaway Bay Volunteer Fire Department and is employed by Brookshire's in Bridgeport.
