Deployed to Bangui in 28 February 2019, the 750-strong contingent (717 men and 33 women) honoured today has conducted various operations to facilitate the implementation of the MINUSCA mandate and restore state authority: they have ensured the security of high-level authorities and secured strategic sites in the capital city. They have furthermore manned security posts in the 3rd and 5th districts of Bangui to prevent inter-communal clashes; conducted patrols to eliminate criminality and protect civilians – most recently in the PK5 district as part of the Bangui Joint Task Force; and carried out civic and community work – notably the distribution of over 615,000 litres of water to the local population.

Pilots with the Estonian Air Force, who have been assigned to the Maryland National Guard for the past year, deployed from The Maryland National Guard Army Aviation Support Facility in Edgewood, Md., Aug. 24. Capt. Rene Kallis and Capt. Martin Noorsalu will be deployed with C Company, 1st Battalion, 169th Aviation Regiment in Afghanistan.
The Maryland National Guard has a relationship with Estonia through the National Guard's State Partnership Program, which brings together U.S. states and territories with partner nations to enhance international security and promote understanding, trust and stability.

The rapid deceleration and the reverse in g-force meant I was spun a whole 180° (which is why it is important to arch so you don't break anything or hurt yourself during deployment whilst you pivot around the risers).

Since September 11, 2001, more than 15,000 Virginia National Guard Soldiers and Airmen have mobilized on federal active duty for homeland security missions and combat operations, sustainment support and peacekeeping in Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia, Kosovo and other locations around the world. Deployed in MINUSCA since April 2015, 930 peacekeepers of the Zambian battalion are deployed in Birao, Bria and Ouanda Djallé, in the North-East of the Central African Republic. Their daily missions include the protection of civilians, support for the peace process and the protection of United Nations personnel and assets.
