Well, I just got back from a 6 month deployment to the middle east (not in a bad area, pretty comfy actually), and with a bit of the money I made while I was there I paid off two credit cards (soon to be 3), saved a ton of it, helped pay for my wedding, and bought a crap ton of "new" camera equipment.

Ive been wanting to get into film and flash for a while now, and saw a perfect opportunity to start buying the equipment.

We usually see data buoy deployments from the boat or the shoreline. Check out this amazing POV as Gravity Consulting deploys a NexSens CB-450.

Deployed to Bangui in 28 February 2019, the 750-strong contingent (717 men and 33 women) honoured today has conducted various operations to facilitate the implementation of the MINUSCA mandate and restore state authority: they have ensured the security of high-level authorities and secured strategic sites in the capital city. They have furthermore manned security posts in the 3rd and 5th districts of Bangui to prevent inter-communal clashes; conducted patrols to eliminate criminality and protect civilians – most recently in the PK5 district as part of the Bangui Joint Task Force; and carried out civic and community work – notably the distribution of over 615,000 litres of water to the local population.

This is Scooter posing during our jaunt through the vineyard near our house. I haven't gotten out much since I got here. I guess a hope for a new start has not gone entirely as planned. I know that's just a sorry excuse, but what can I say. I hope to never again make the mistake of thinking the grass is greener at the next assignment. I can't entirely blame my mood on this assignment, but it sure hasn't helped. I've never heard of counting down the days to deployment in the hope that life will get easier...but that's the case here.

I finally get my household goods this weekend. I don't know that it'll help any with "settling in", but at least I'll have my own bed. And unpacking to keep my mind busy. These next few months are going to absolutely fly by...but til then, I'm counting the days.

About 2 seconds into deployment. Primary instructor (Dave, left) and Secondary (Jo, right) move away from me to deploy their mains safely.

The rapid deceleration and the reverse in g-force meant I was spun a whole 180° (which is why it is important to arch so you don't break anything or hurt yourself during deployment whilst you pivot around the risers).
