கருப்புப்பணம் மற்றும் கள்ள நோட்டுகளை ஒழிக்கும் நடவடிக்கை என ரூ.500, 1000 நோட்டுகளை செல்லாது என கடந்த 2016ஆம் ஆண்டு நவம்பர் 8ஆம் தேதியன்று மத்திய அரசு அறிவித்தது. அதேசமயம், புதிய ரூ.500 மற்றும் ரூ.2000 நோட்டுகளையும் மத்திய அரசு வெளியிட்டது. நாடு முழுவதும் மிகப்பெரிய அதிர்வலைகளை ஏற்படுத்திய பணமதிப்பிழப்பு நடவடிக்கையால் சுமார் 3 மாதங்களுக்கும் மேலாக பொதுமக்கள் பணமின்றி தவித்தனர். ஏடிஎம் வாசல்களில் மணிக்கணக்கில் பலர் காத்திருந்தனர். சில இடங்களில் உயிரிழப்புகளும் ஏற்பட்டன.
ஆனால், பணமதிப்பிழப்பு நடவடிக்கையால் கருப்புப் பணம் ஒழிக்கப்படுவதோடு, கள்ளநோட்டு புழக்கமும் தடுக்கப்படும் என்ற பிரதமர், பயங்கரவாதிகளுக்கு பணம் செல்லுவது தடுக்கப்படுவதோடு இந்திய பொருளாதாரமும் உயர்த்தப்படும் என்றார். நாட்டின் எதிர்காலம் கருதி மக்கள் சிரமங்களை 50 நாட்களுக்கு பொறுத்துக்கொள்ள வேண்டும் எனவும் கேட்டுக் கொண்டிருந்தார். மத்திய அரசின் பண மதிப்பிழப்பு நடவடிக்கைக்கு ஒரு சாரார் வரவேற்பு தெரிவித்தாலும், இன்றளவும் பலரும் தங்களது எதிர்ப்புகளை பதிவு செய்து வருகின்றனர்.
