On Friday, January 23, Langara welcomed delegates from ELM Saudi Arabia to campus for a visit and an update on the current ELM student group who is studying in the College's LEAP Program. ELM is a banking company owned by the investment arm of the Saudi Ministry of Finance, and 29 of their employees are currently studying in LEAP (Langara English for Academic Purposes) for one year to improve their English language skills.
LEAP is an intensive English language program that uses a holistic approach to integrated learning, combining speaking, listening, reading, and writing in an applied format. Having the ELM students at Langara has provided excellent opportunities for cross-cultural exchange within the classroom and campus community. "It's a great honour to host the delegates and discuss opportunities for continued partnership," said Vicki Vogel, Langara's Manager of English Proficiency Programs.

Over 450 attendees from across government gathered together to see first-hand the platforms, services and new ways of working happening in the civil service.

MUA AND FRIENDS VISIT SOUTH AFRICAN SCHOOL CHILDREN!
A mixed group of international union delegates from Australia, New Zealand and the United States of America pay a visit to two of the primary schools that they support in Cape Town, South Africa. Together with their South African partner, 'Educompass Community Development Services', under the leadership of its Director, Robby Roberts, they officially handed over donated computer equipment to the primary schools as part of their assistance programme. Part of their support arrived in a shipping container a while back and the painted container has since been converted into a store room at one of the schools. Inside the container were books, pencils, toys and other useful things that were shipped over in the container and then distributed to all 14 Educompass schools and their kids. The delegates also used the opportunity to inspect the schools and spend some time with the young scholars whom they help. The delegates who visited the schools were Joanne White from Australia, Secretary of the Mining and Maritime Union in Australia, Peter Murray from Australia, National Secretary of the Construction Forestry Mining Energy Union (CFMEU), Rick Newlyn from Australia, Secretary of the Maritime Union of Australia and William Adams, International Secretary-Treasurer of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU).

The Conference is held at the World Forum, The Hague, the Netherlands. The 27th Session is scheduled from 28 November to 2 December 2022.
