The Neighbourhood of Omega Centauri
Omega Centauri or NGC 5139, the largest globular cluster of our milky galaxy nearly 15000 LY away and containing more than 10 million stars. (Seen at the centre of the picture)
Accompanying it are few other deep sky objects as listed:

This is a single exposure cropped shot from Canon 700D/50mm F1.8 tracked on AstroTrac.

The Messier 8 (aka Lac III-13, NGC 6523, BCA 237 or Sh 2-25), is definitely the protagonist of this rich nebular and stellar field in the Sagittarius constellation, near the centre of our galaxy.
With approximate apparent dimensions of 45’x30’ and a distance of about 4-5 thousand light-years, this very bright emission nebula has a real extension of nearly 100 light-years, factors that make it visible to the naked eye even in suburban areas, and a good target for binoculars or small telescopes, although it takes a somewhat big telescope (10-inch would be very fine) in a dark sky site to fully reveal its splendour to a visual observer – as I had the unforgettable opportunity to witness via a 11-inch SCT from a Bortle 2 sky site.
But the Lagoon Nebula, as it is popularly known, is surrounded by several other nebulae and HII regions, such as Sh 2-29, Sh 2-31, and Sh 2-32, to the bottom left, and M8 itself also encompasses a bright open star cluster, NGC 6530 as well as the famous Hourglass Nebula, at its luminous core, and some dark nebulae showing themselves as beautiful dark filaments cutting through their way along the field, partially blocking our view of the shimmering nebula behind.
This colour combination is the renowned Hubble Palette or SHO (Sulphur-Hydrogen-Oxygen), by which the narrowband SII captured data is assigned to the Red channel, the H-alpha data to Green, and the OIII to Blue. I also used the H-alpha as Luminance channel for this image.
Curiously, this SHO palette, at least in my opinion, makes the “Lagoon Nebula” an even more appropriate name for this object, perhaps because of the blue huge central region surrounded by the golden/brown border.

A Nebulosa da Lagoa em Hubble Palette (SHO) e adjacências
A Messier 8 (M8, também conhecida como Lac III-13, NGC 6523, BCA 237 ou Sh 2-25) é definitivamente a nebulosa a protagonizar esse rico campo estelar na constelação do Sagitário, próxima ao centro da nossa galáxia. Com as dimensões aparentes aproximadas de 45’x30’ e uma distância de 4 a 5 milhares de anos-luz da Terra, essa brilhante nebulosa de emissão tem uma extensão real de quase 100 anos-luz, fatores que a tornam visível a olho nu desde até mesmo áreas suburbanas de grandes cidades, e um bom alvo de observação para binóculos e pequenos telescópios, embora seja desejável um telescópio um tanto maior (10 polegadas seria bem razoável) e num céu escuro, para revelar totalmente seu esplendor a um observador visual – como eu mesmo tive a inesquecível oportunidade de testemunhar via um telescópio SCT de 11 polegadas em um local de céu Bortle 2.
Mas a Nebulosa da Lagoa, como é popularmente conhecida, é cercada de várias outras nebulosas e regiões HII, como as Sh 2-29, Sh 2-31 e Sh 2-32, vistas em grupo no região inferior esquerda da imagem. E a própria M8 também hospeda um brilhante aglomerado aberto de estrelas, o NGC 6530, bem como a Nebulosa da Ampulheta, que lhe serve de radiante núcleo, além de algumas nebulosas escuras que se apresentam como belos filamentos negros cortando seu caminho ao longo do campo de visão, parcialmente bloqueando nossa visão da fulgurante nebulosa logo atrás.
Essa combinação de cores é a conhecida Hubble Palette (ou Aquarela do Hubble – ficando assim famosa por ser empregada pelos processadores de imagens do famoso telescópio espacial), ou SHO (Enxofre-Hidrogênio-Oxigênio, na sigla em latim e inglês). Nessa combinação, os dados capturados em banda estreita de SII são atribuídos ao canal Vermelho do conjunto RGB (Vermelho-Verde-Azul), enquanto as capturas na faixa do Hidrogênio-alfa vão para o canal Verde, e as em Oxigênio-III vão para o Azul. Para essa imagem, eu também usei o H-alfa como canal de Luminância.
Curiosamente, esta aquarela SHO – ao menos na minha opinião – torna o nome “Nebulosa da Lagoa” ainda mais apropriado para este objeto, talvez pelo fato de tornar a imensa região central azul, e cercada pelas margens em tons marrons/dourados.

天鵝座廣角
這一次用 50mm 來拍拍廣角一點的天鵝座一帶。照片近中央有北美和塘鵝星雲；藍白色的光星是夏季大三角之一，也是天鵝座最亮的天津四，左上角也隱約看得到東西面紗星雲。這一帶的星星又密又多，對於 50mm 鏡頭好像有點太擠迫了…大家有興趣也可看看早前張貼過的 135mm 照片比較一下。

天上的一顆心
心臟星雲 (Heart Nebula, IC1805)，是銀河系英仙臂的星雲，星雲深處其實有很多值得拍攝的細節，可惜拍攝時間有限，未能將更多細節重現。心臟星雲在東北方向上升，最高只會升至 60 度左右，在香港的重光害環境下可能會較難拍攝，需借助光害濾鏡的幫忙才能事半功倍。

Seagull Nebula (IC 2177)
A broad expanse of glowing gas and dust presents a bird-like visage to astronomers from planet Earth, suggesting its popular moniker - The Seagull Nebula. This portrait of the cosmic bird covers a 1.6 degree wide swath across the plane of the Milky Way, near the direction of Sirius, alpha star of the constellation Canis Major. Of course, the region includes objects with other catalog designations: notably NGC 2327, a compact, dusty emission region with an embedded massive star that forms the bird's head (aka the Parrot Nebula). Dominated by the reddish glow of atomic hydrogen, the complex of gas and dust clouds with bright young stars spans over 100 light-years at an estimated 3,800 light-year distance.

Hey! This is my first time capturing The Andromeda Galaxy (M31), I’m pleased with the results even that the Galaxy is too big to my telescope. Equipment: Celestron 6SLT , Canon 60D, Celestron Focal reducer 6.3. Software processing: Sequator and Lightroom. Imaging information: light frames 30@30” flat frames 30/30” dark frames 30@30” bais frames 30@30”
The Leo Triplet is a group of galaxies a mere 35 million light-years away in the constellation Leo (not surprisingly). It consists of galaxies M65, M66, and NGC 3628.
Had a lot of trouble with this. My recently overhauled mount, which I was so proud of, decided to go back to how it was before, or worse, so I had to bin 32 of the 60 subs I took. Also had terrible amp glow so this is quite severely cropped to get rid of it. For some reason the darks didn't do their job. Anyway, not a bad result considering the short exposure.

This image was taken using my skywatcher 127 telescope and my canon 550d. This is just a single image with no stacking. Not focused the best, think I can improve but I am pleased to take my first photograph of the nebula.
This is my most "professional" astrophoto so far - I've never done HDR before.

Messier 26 open star cluster, at right, a bright binocular/telescopic star cluster, along with the fainter and small globular star cluster NGC 6712 at upper left, which itself is paired with the faint planetary nebula IC 1295, the greenish spot left of NGC 6712. All are in the constellation of Scutum, embedded in the rich Scutum Starcloud. The bright red star at top is S Scuti.
This is a stack of 8 x 6 minute exposures at f/4.4 with the Canon 6D at ISO 800 and TMB 92mm Apo refractor with the Borg 0.85x flattener/reducer. Taken from the winter home near Silver City, New Mexico.

Правда, возможно предназначенное для определённой аудитории (декаденствующих эстетов)) - фильм-сон, где богиня по имени Тильда (в смысле Ева), скользит со своим возлюбленным (его совершенно случайно зовут Адам) сквозь пространство-время, созерцая красоту мира под космический drone/ambient - очень люблю подобные работы, за их символизм-минимализм и красоту, думаю - не маловато ли ему будет проставленных 9/10?
Кстати, саундтрек к этому фильму выиграл приз в Каннах, а музыку написали совместно голландский композитор Jozef Van Wissem и Jim Jarmusch, проект носит название SQÜRL — так что послушайте хотя бы музыку: FLAC, раз не хотите сам фильм посмотреть.

01. A Scanner Darkly / Помутнение — 10/10.
Криминальная sci-fi драма, от Richard Linklater, на основе позднего автобиографичного произведения от Philip K. Dick, который заодно написал Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? — по нему сняли всем известный Blade Runner. В фильме рассказывается о секретном расследовании путей распространения новейшего нркт, поэтому фильм снят в необычной полуанимционно-галлюциногенной манере, среди персонажей отметились Keanu Reeves, постепенно сходящий с ума двойной агент, который вынужден сам принимать этот препарат, чтобы внедриться в банду дилеров и «в свободное время» страдающий от неразделённой любви к Вайноне Райдер, собственно Winona в майке с глубоким декольте 💕 — слегка упоротая стерва-кокаинщица (на первый взгляд), далее Robert Downey, Jr. — философствующий дилер-шизофреник, который и сам перманентно под этим делом, и наконец Woody Harrelson — психопат-параноик, в любой непонятной ситуаций закидывающийся колёсами — причём в итоге всё окажется вообще не так как казалось поначалу. Отчасти в подобной атмосфере снят ещё один мегафильм — Enter the Void (Gaspar Noé, 2009) с Paz de la Huerta, хотя он намного более атмосферный и скорее о переселении душ, тоже посмотрите если пропустили. Ну и «Страх и ненависть в Лас-Вегасе», который многие считают бредом, хотя там млрд аллюзий на контркультуру 60-х.
02. Factory Girl / Я соблазнила Энди Уорхола — 10/10.
Биография культовой актрисы Edie Sedgwick (1943-1971) (потрясающая роль Sienna Miller), плюс циничный Andy Warhol (Guy Pearce), немного пафосный Bob Dylan (Hayden Christensen), который постоянно курит косяки задвигая философски-поэтические телеги, редактор Vogue (Ileana Douglas), и даже великие The Velvet Underground с Nico (Meredith Ostrom)! настоятельно рекомендую.
03. Inland Empire / Внутренняя империя — 10/10.
Мистический опус Д.Линча. Внутренняя Империя - это регион в Калифорнии. Именно там разворачиваются основные действия картины, рассказывающей о загадочной женщине, попавшей в беду. Лора Дерн играет Никки, актрису, которой предложили роль в фильме режиссёра Кингсли Стюарта (Джереми Айронс). Её партнёром по картине выступает Дэвон (Джастин Теру), которого режиссёр предупреждает об одержимом муже Никки и просит держать съёмки в секрете. По сюжету снимаемого фильма Никки должна сыграть Сью, а Дэвон - Билли, и оба персонажа должны начать любовный роман. В самом начале съёмок они узнают, что сценарий, который основан на польской народной легенде про цыган, является ремейком фильма, который не был доснят до конца, потому что игравшие в нём главные роли актёры были убиты.
04. This Is England / Это Англия — 10/10.
Моментально ставший культовым фильм Шейна Медоуза, рассказывает об английских скинхедах 80-х. 12-летний Шон Филд потерял любимого отца в Фолклендской войне. Подравшись со школьным задирой, он бредёт домой, и встречает в туннеле группу скинов, вливаясь в их тусовку.
05. Gradiva (C'est Gradiva qui vous appelle) / Вас зовёт Градива — 10/10.
Атмосферно-эротическая криминальная драма-мистификация от Алена Роб-Грийе, где профессор востоковед, исследуя в Марокко Североафриканский период работы Делакруа, получает редкие рисунки художника в таинственном секретном Театре страданий, после чего его разум теряется в галлюцинациях с сексуальным подтекстом — его начинает преследовать видение красивой женщины, Градивы, которая была музой Делакруа, на фоне марроканских лабиринтов. Нелинейный фильм-загадка!
06. The Departed / Отступники — 9/10.
Фильм Мартина Скорcезе, ремейк гонконгского криминального триллера Двойная рокировка (2002). Криминальный босс Фрэнк Костелло (Джек Николсон) берёт под своё крыло десятилетнего Колина Салливана, собираясь в будущем сделать его своим человеком в полиции. Проходят годы, и Салливан (Мэтт Деймон) оканчивает школу полиции штата Массачусетс. Вместе с ним там учился Билли Костиган (Леонардо Ди Каприо). Скорcезе наконец получил Оскар, давно заслуженный, за Казино, Авиатор и Таксиста, например.
07. Om Gud vill / По высшей воле — 9/10.
Красивая романтическая мелодрама, Швеция 70х, Хуан (мигрант) встречает вечером на остановке красивую блондинку (Нина Перссон, вокалистка The Cardigans), которая становится для него смыслом жизни. Amir Chamdin режиссер родился в Стокгольме, хотя его мать финка, а отец из Сирии, интересно, что шведка Nina Persson по фильму играет вокалистку финской группы Juli & The Monoliths, отца Амира звали Хуан.
08. Last King of Scotland / Последний король Шотландии — 9/10.
Великая роль Фореста Уитакера, о молодом докторе из Шотландии (Джеймс Макэвой), который приехал в Уганду, случайно став вскоре ближайшим советником президента Иди Амина, кровавого тирана.
09. The Prestige / Престиж — 9/10.
Двое британских иллюзионистов Роберт Энджер, выступающий под псевдонимом Великий Дантон (Хью Джекман), и Альфред Борден (Кристиан Бэйл), были друзьями до тех пор, пока при выполнении опасного трюка не утонула жена Энджера (как считал Энджер, по вине Бордена). С тех пор двое становятся заклятыми врагами и соперниками, устраивая друг другу диверсии, и уводят друг у друга любовниц. Бывшая помощница Энджера, а ныне любовница Бордена Оливия (Скарлетт Йоханссон) приносит своему бывшему работодателю (который отверг её любовь), дневник своего любовника. Ключевым словом для расшифровки дневника является слово Тесла. В роли Теслы отметился сам Bowie!

Комедийная драма, мечтающая стать журналисткой провинциальная девушка Андреа (Энн Хэтэуэй) по окончании университета получает должность помощницы всесильной Миранды Пристли (Мерил Стрип), деспотичного редактора одного из крупнейших нью-йоркских журналов мод (прототипом стала властная Анна Винтур, редактор Vogue), коллегой/конкуренткой Энн Хэтэуэй по фильму является красавица Эмили Блант, плюс звёзды типа Валентино и Хайди Клум в эпизодах.
13. Мне не больно — 8/10.
Красивая мелодрама с Ренатой Литвиновой в фильме нашего гения Алексея Балабанова, немного перекликается с фильмом «Осень в Нью-Йорке» (с Гир и Райдер).
14. Man cheng jin dai huang jin jia / Проклятие золотого цветка — 8/10.
Китай. X век. Из долгого похода возвращается император. Он поражен холодной встречей придворных. Императрица тщательно скрывает тайную связь с кронпринцем. Двор погряз в любовных и политических интригах, оплетающих дворец, словно гирлянды золотых хризантем.
15. Casino Royale / Казино Ройаль — 8/10.
Одна из лучших серий бондиады, как теперь стало ясно, во многом благодаря участию как всегда роскошной Евы Грин и Бонда - Крейга.
16. Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus / Мех: Воображаемый портрет Дианы Арбус — 8/10.
Из окна своей квартиры в Нью-Йорке Диана Арбус (Николь Кидман) видит фигуру в маске — таинственного нового соседа (Роберт Дауни мл.). Заинтригованная Диана хочет его сфотографировать и отправляется к нему в квартиру. С этого и начинается ее путешествие, которое раскрывает самые потаенные секреты Дианы, пробуждает в ней гения и направляет на путь выдающегося художника.
17. Red Road / Жилой комплекс «Ред Роуд» — 8/10.
Драма, где каждый день Джеки (оператор камер наблюдения в Глазго) приглядывает за небольшой частью мира, оберегая людей, которые живут под ее пристальным взглядом. Однажды на ее мониторе появляется мужчина, которого она не ожидала увидеть снова, и которого она больше никогда не хотела видеть. Реж. Андреа Арнольд.
18. Goya's Ghosts / Призраки Гойи — 8/10.
Фильм Милоша Формана, cюжет разворачивается во времена правления Карла IV, придворным живописцем которого был знаменитый Франсиско Гойя. На заре наполеоновских войн святая инквизиция активизируется в Испании. В числе прочих в её застенки попадает Инес - дочь богатого купца Томаса Бельбатуа, которую можно было бы даже назвать музой Гойи, так как именно её лицо живописец с регулярностью изображал на картинах и фресках. 8/10.
19. Apocalypto / Апокалипсис — 8/10.
Брутальный эпик фильм Гибсона, о временах Майя, хотя потомки индейцев позже подали простест — дескать их предки изображены слишком жестокими.
20. Остров / Ostrov — 8/10.
Павел Лунгин и Пётр Мамонов, драма об искуплении, получившая множество призов, снимали фильм на побережье Белого моря в Карелии.
21. Zwartboek / Черная книга — 8/10.
Paul Verhoeven снял отличный триллер с Carice van Houten (позже она станет знаменитой ведьмой в Game of Thrones).
22. Scoop / Сенсация — 7/10.
Скарлетт Йоханссон (легкомысленная студентка журфака) и Хью Джекман (английский аристократ), плюс Вуди Аллен собственной персоной, в образе фокусника-неврастеника. Фильм-фарс насмешка над двойным дном британской белой кости, поданный под соусом некоего сенсационного расследования.
23. Babel / Вавилон — 7/10.
Многослойная драма с Питтом от Алехандро Гонсалеса Иньярриту. В фильме развиваются три основные сюжетные линии и действует множество персонажей. Всё это показывает зрителю картину нашего мира как один большой Вавилон, в котором людям приходится находить общий язык: добиваться своего и уметь слушать других.
24. Interview / Интервью — 7/10.
Реж Стив Бушеми, он же в одной из главных ролей, но основным украшением картины несомненно стала Сиенна Миллер. Матерый, циничный, но не слишком удачливый политический журналист Пьер получает задание взять интервью у актрисы с русским именем Катя — звезды мыльных опер и B-хорроров.
25. Fast Food Nation / Нация фастфуда — 7/10.
Аврил Лавин, Брюс Уиллис и Патрицией Аркетт, а также Итан Хоук и Крис Кристофферсон, крутой состав в этом грустном фильме, о безнадёжной судьбе мекисканских нелегальных эмигрантов, которые вынуждены работать на мясоперерабатывающем заводе Макдональдса, около мексиканской границы. Аврилка тут защищает бедных коровок, и хочет их выпустить на свободу (но они не убегают) - есть пара смешных моментов и с участием прекрасной Патриции Аркетт и Итана Хоука. На одном из фестивалей зрители аплодировали стоя в конце.
26. The Illusionist / Илююзионист — 7/10.
Романтическая история с налётом магии, с Эдвардом Нортоном, про иллюзиониста, который показывает публике невиданные фокусы, которые кажутся не иначе как волшебством.
27. Lake House / Дом у озера — 7/10.
Красивая мистическая любовная мелодрама с Кеану Ривзом и Сандрой Баллок.
28. The Painted Veil / Разрисованная вуаль — 7/10.
Экранизация одноимённого романа британского писателя Сомерсета Моэма, Эдвард Нортон и Наоми Уоттс.
29. The Da Vinci Code / Код Да Винчи — 7/10.
Гарвардского профессора Роберта Лэнгдона подозревают в чудовищном преступлении, которого он не совершал. Лэнгдон знакомится с криптографом парижской полиции Софи Невё и вместе с ней пытается раскрыть тайну, которая может подорвать могущество католической церкви. Том Хэнкс, Одри Тоту, Иэн Маккеллен, Жан Рено, Юрген Прохнов - не дадут вам заскучать, фильм собрал огромную кассу и подвергся сокрушительной критике со стороны религиозных организаций.
30. High School Musical / Классный мюзикл — 6/10.
Ванильный тенейджерский диснеевский мюзикл, который стал невероятно популярен благодаря песням-хитам из него. В ролях будущие звёзды: Зак Эфрон (19), Ванесса Энн Хадженс (18), Эшли Тисдейл (21).
31. Lucky Number Slevin / Счастливое число Слевина — 6/10.
Джош Хартнетт, Брюс Уиллис, Бен Кингсли, Стэнли Туччи, Морган Фриман и неплохой криминальный триллер с закрученным сюжетом.
32. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest / Пираты Карибского моря: Сундук мертвеца — 6/10.
Вновь оказавшись в ирреальном мире, лихой капитан Джек Воробей неожиданно узнает, что является должником легендарного капитана «Летучего Голландца» Дэйви Джонса. Джек должен в кратчайшие сроки решить эту проблему, иначе ему грозит вечное проклятие и рабское существование после смерти. В ролях всё те же Джонни Депп, Орландо Блум и Кира Найтли.
33. Mission: Impossible III / Миссия невыполнима — 6/10.
Приключенческий боевик, в ролях Том Круз, Филип Сеймур Хоффман, Винг Рэймс, Мишель Монаган, Джонатан Рис-Майерс, Мишель Монаган. Пишут что Круз получил $75 млн, притом что бюджет был $150 млн, а собрали $400 млн.
34. The Lookout / Обман — 5/10.
Джозеф Гордон-Левитт, подававший большие надежды, попадает в автомобильную катастрофу и теряет память, cтав инвалидом, он зарабатывает на жизнь ночным уборщиком в банке, параллельно лидер преступной группировки планирует ограбление этого самого банка и вербует слабоумного уборщика себе в помощники.
35. Basic Instinct 2 / Основной инстинкт 2: Жажда риска — 4/10.
При всей моей любви к Шэрон Стоун, это полный провал, опус не идёт ни в какое сравнение с абсолютно культовым триллером Верховена — Basic Instinct (1992), название тут не поменяли очевидно только из маркетинговых соображений.

Rosette Nebula as seen on Nov 25 and 26 over two nights of capturing in the back yard. I was testing flexure fixes and needed a target that would be useful. This object is near the equator and thus any issues with RA would show up best here.
Equipment used for this effort:
Stellarvue SV4
Full spectrum modified Pentax K10D camera with cooler (Camera temps ranged from 6 to 9 C)
SSF6 flattener with IDAS LPR filter
Losmandy G11 with Gemini 2 and PEC turned on
Guided with Maxim and SSAG on SV70ED
Data set:
32 lights, 45 darks, 256 bias, 35 flats
I've also learned a few new things about the peculairities of the image data I capture. Because I'm using a cooled, full spectrum converted CCD based DSLR, the noise profile is a bit strange. There is amp glow that is non-linear. So far, I've learned that Maxim DL is the best tool for me to use to calibrate the source files. This does a nice job of removing the amp glow, although sometimes it does not do a great job on the hot pixels. It gets nearly all of them, but the biggest ones still come through.
I've been stacking the FIT files from Maxim using Deep Sky Stacker 3.3.3 beta 47. It does a great job of catching the hot pixels and does the right job of debayering the FIT files. I've recently found that my color settings for the debayer process were off by a large margin. I found that by reducing the blue level significantly and bumping up the red level the resulting cyan colored ringing on the brightest stars all but disappears. This has significantly helped the next step of processing in Pix Insight.
Stacked in DSS with Sigma Clip settings of Kappa 2 with 5 iterations on the best 90% giving 28 lights. This gives 4 hours and 40 minutes of integration time. Exported as 32 bit FIT file.
In PI, now that the data is in much better condition, I've had better results with using the basic tools. In order, I run:
Dynamic Crop to trim bad areas from the mosaic from DSS
Assisted Color Calibration
DBE with large sample areas
Masked Stretch script to get to a higher median level
Removed green using SCNR
Histogram Stretch to spread out the results
ADCNR with the built-in masking (I've tried using it twice with good results)
Unsharp Mask on the Luminance CIE Y to tighten up the stars
One more pass on the Assisted Color Calibration with a strong saturation boost value of 3
Dark Structure Enhance script did a nice job of increasing the contrast
Final export to TIFF and then into LR3. There I added a value of 1 to the blacks and 10 to the Clarity, Vibrance, and Saturation each. In the past, I've done Sharpness and Noise Reduction. I don't think this is necessary for this example. I also touched up a spot left from a missing set of flats - I missed getting flats after the first day's data and there was a big dust mote on the CCD.

All in all, I'm happy with this image. The data is reasonably good and I've learned a lot.
The Bubble Nebula is a beautiful emission nebula in the constellation Cassiopeia. The bubble is caused by stellar winds coming from its central star. Check out this Hubble closeup of part of the bubble.

Couldn't resist this. Only found out about this last night (tonight) and as it was clear I felt obliged!
For those that don't know - or don't care :) - a supernova is a star that has come to the end of its life and exploded
On the left is the image I took on 3 May, and to the right is the quick and dirty image I've just taken. The supernova is kind of obvious (more so with the yellow lines pointing to it!)
The "surrounding" stars are in our galaxy, probably just thousands of light years away. The supernova, equally as bright, is in M51, the Whirlpool Galaxy, and is about 31 million light years away. Which also means of course that it went supernova 31 million years ago. Fascinating stuff. :)

Sh2-155 s a diffuse nebula in the constellation Cepheus, within a larger nebula complex containing emission, reflection, and dark nebulosity. At an estimated distance of 725 parsecs (2400 ly), Sh2-155 is an ionized H II region with ongoing star formation activity.

At 9hr20 the OIII signal was still very weak and tricky to process, requiring a lot of noise-reduction trickery. I'll definitely have to return to this target again.
The colour palette is particularly weird. Normal HOO tends to be strident reds and blues; HaHOO makes for paler yellow-gold and cyan colours. After a bit of playing around, this formula of my own gives excellent cold blue-green tonality instead.

The Sunflower Galaxy, M63 aka NGC 5055 is in the constellation Canes Venatici. It's about 37 million light years away and is part of the M51 Group which, not surprisingly, includes M51.
This was an absolute pig to process. It's not hugely bright and needs a lot more than the 50 minutes I was able to give it. Still - I can cross it off the list now! :)

My second attempt at Pleiades, this time with about 3 hours total integration time, one hour each of ISO 400, 800, and 1600 with my Nikon D7000 and Tamron 150-600mm lens at f6 and 450mm.
M39 (ou NGC 7092) est un amas ouvert situé dans la constellation du Cygne. Il a été découvert par Charles Messier en 1764.

I've taken a lot of recent lessons learned and applied them to this data set. The original lights were captured on the night of Aug 24, 2011. At the time, I tried working with them and could only get some burned out images out of them. Over time, I learned about getting temperature matched darks for my DSLR and then about working with groups in DSS. With all this effort, I've been able to bring this shot to life.
There are still problems with flawed flats, but there's not much I can do about them since I didn't take flats that evening. I still had not learned the lesson to do that every night. Also, you can barely see some amp glow along the top of the frame. This may be something that I could remove with some better darks or by doing the stacking in PI.
Color balance was reset when I stacked, as I did not have the white balance set properly for the filter at the time I did the shots. I'm not sure if I like the burgundy look of the nebula. I did tweak the balance a bit in LR but at this point it's all aesthetics.
Used a full-spectrum modified Pentax K10D camera with a Stellarvue SV4 scope. Guiding with PHD by Orion SSAG on the Stellarvue SV70ED all on Losmandy GM8 mount. SV flattener used with Baader Moon and Skyglow filter.

Grouping like this was done to keep the lights and darks temperature matched. Stacking was done in DSS.
Processing done in PI. Mostly masked stretch, histogram stretch, sharpening, deringing, noise reduction, black structure enhance. Brought the image into LR to do spot fixes and a final stretch, sharpen, and denoise for the web.

The Veil Nebula is a cloud of heated and ionized gas and dust in the constellation Cygnus.
It constitutes the visible portions of the Cygnus Loop, a supernova remnant, many portions of which have acquired their own individual names and catalogue identifiers. The source supernova was a star 20 times more massive than the Sun which exploded between 10,000 and 20,000 years ago. At the time of explosion, the supernova would have appeared brighter than Venus in the sky, and visible in daytime. The remnants have since expanded to cover an area of the sky roughly 3 degrees in diameter (about 6 times the diameter, and 36 times the area, of the full Moon). While previous distance estimates have ranged from 1200 to 5800 light-years, a recent determination of 2400 light-years is based on direct astrometric measurements. (The distance estimates affect also the estimates of size and age.)
The Hubble Space Telescope captured several images of the nebula. The analysis of the emissions from the nebula indicate the presence of oxygen, sulfur, and hydrogen. The Cygnus Loop is also a strong emitter of radio waves and x-rays.

天蝎座鄰近銀河中心，可算是各種天體雲氣比較豐富的一帶。圖左可看到藍馬頭和星空調色盤；右邊則有班節蝦星雲、貓爪星雲、和龍蝦星雲。熟悉星座的朋友可能會留意到左邊藍馬頭多了顆亮星。那是因為這圖是攝於今年四月， 土星剛好移到馬鼻的位置上…
這圖用上兩幅不同相片拼接並加以疊合，處理時花了一番氣力但也實在有趣… 希望下次再挑戰多幾幅的拼接試試。

While in Coudersport, PA shooting the Milky Way, I decided to grab a few quick shots of the Andromeda Galaxy as well. I was able to capture Adromeda, the faint M110 Galaxy directly above (looking like they are touching) and M33 also known as the Triangulum Galaxy near the bottom of the image.

This galaxy is one of my favourite deep sky objects. Located in the constellation of Virgo, M104 is famous for its near
edge-on profile featuring a broad ring of obscuring dust. The dust lane is seen in silhouette against an impressive
central bulge of stars, which gives it a broad brimmed hat-like appearance, leading to its popular name of The Sombrero Galaxy. About 50,000 light-years across and 28 million light-years away, M104 is host to a central supermassive black hole.

The galaxies Messier 81 (left) and Messier 82 (right) in Ursa Major. Both are 12 million light-years from Earth and are physically near each other. M81 is a grand-design spiral galaxy, and M82 is a starburst galaxy, thought to be triggered by its close encounter to the more-massive M81.

My first (and probably last) attempt at a cluster. They come with their own challenges it seems. This is 29 minutes (because there are so many stars even the slightest tracking error screams at you!)
M13 aka NGC 6205 is about 25K light years away, and is about 145 light years in diameter. It contains several hundred thousand stars. Must be a pretty spectacular sight if you live on a planet orbiting one of those stars. Apparently we sent a message to M13 in 1974 - haven't had a reply yet though! :)

Flame Nebula and Horsehead Nebula as seen from the back yard.
This is a sum of 11 subs taken in the back yard as a part of testing. I didn't expect to get any results, so I'm pleased with the stack as it stands. There are some blown out stars resulting in color shifts that are difficult to control. Also, there are some flares on the filter that are also hard to control.
Still, this is a good exercise in using Pix Insight to control noise, so I'm learning.

Full spectrum Pentax K10D with Baader Moon & Skyglow and UV/IR filters
11 total subs of 10 minutes at 400 ISO.

In alto NGC4631, nota anche come Galassia Balena, è una galassia a spirale, appena in alto NGC4627 una ellittica nana, entrambe con una distanza stimata attorno ai 12 milioni di anni luce. Risulta più distante la galassia a spirale barrata NGC4656/7 evidente sulla sinistra.
Foto realizzata con pose guidate da 10 minuti per un'integrazione totale di 16 ore e mezza con Newton 150/600, correttore 0.95x, camera Tecnosky Vision 571C, montatura GEM45, elaborata interamente in Pixinsight.
At the top NGC4631, also known as the Whale Galaxy, is a spiral galaxy, just above NGC4627 is a dwarf elliptical, both with an estimated distance of around 12 million light years. The barred spiral galaxy NGC4656/7 evident on the left is more distant.
Photo taken with guided exposures of 10 minutes for a total integration of 16 and a half hours with Newton 150/600, corrector 0.95x, Tecnosky Vision 571C camera, GEM45 mount, processed entirely in Pixinsight.
