The Danjera Dam near Nowra, Australia, is a popular campsite and especially so for freshwater fishing folk. Its seven-kilometre long catchment is stocked with rainbow trout and Australian bass and hosts plenty of eels. Also under the waters of the dam are the ruins of the old mining town of Yalwal, where gold was discovered in 1852. A bushfire in 1939 burnt almost the whole village, leaving only one residence, one shop and the Post Office. Completion of the dam in 1971 drowned the gully and with it the area’s gold-boom history.
I have visited the dam a half-dozen or so times in the past two years, including on an ill-fated trip in early November, when I lost the memory card containing my last Milky Way core shots of the year. There were also several photos of M31, the Andromeda Galaxy, on that memory card, so I had to go back one more time to shoot some more. This time I was very careful to make sure that the memory card made it home with me. As well as M31 there are plenty of stars visible in the sky, and a few reflected off the dam's surface, towards the bottom of the shot.
Here is a photo of M31 in the sky over the dam, which I captured with my Canon EOS 6D Mk II camera, a Yongnuo 50mm f/1.4 lens @ f/1.4, using an exposure time of 8.0 seconds @ ISO 6400.

I have a better picture of this using narrowband filters now:
This bright emission nebula stands out visually, but even visual observations from a dark sky site won't bring out its full extent. I particularly like M17 because 1) it was the first emission nebula I looked at in my Dobsonian as a kid that made me think it looked like its name (a swan), and 2) the super dark molecular cloud near the "head" of the swan. How dense must that be? Find some images of the nebula taken with infrared light to peer into how furious the rate of star formation is - very well worth the search effort.

NGC 281, often referred to as the Pacman Nebula due to its resemblance to the character from the video game "Pac-Man," is an emission nebula located in the constellation Cassiopeia. It lies about 9,200 light-years away from Earth. NGC 281 is part of the Milky Way galaxy and is a region of active star formation.

NGC 3718 and its little friend This critter sits near the lower left corner of the bowl of the 'Big Dipper', and is a tough nut to crack.
Last night, I broke through the skin of that nut. :)

Since my processing methods have improved somewhat I thought I'd go back and revisit a gem I shot last summer. This is a composite of all data I acquired on the Dumbbell Nebula. Shot over the months of July, August and September. Dates of acquisition being 7/29, 8/11, 8/25, 9/11, and 9/25. A combined total of almost an hour's worth of imaging data. Combined acquisition data combined and saved over the initial September 11 master frame.

Final shot from the evening of October 18th, 2025: a wide-field image of comet C/2025 A6 Lemmon, captured with a Canon EOS 6D and an 85 mm lens.
Most of the images circulating online show only the portion of the tail closest to the nucleus… but that accounts for just one third of its true length!
That night, a CME — the same kind of solar particle emission responsible for the recent auroras, though less intense — reached Earth and interacted with the comet’s long ion tail, producing the intricate waves and distortions visible in the photo.

After a few cloudy and foggy nights, I finally had the opportunity to get to know my new digital telescope “ZWO Seestar S50 Smart Telescope” better and try it out with excellent visibility.
The constellation of Orion is one of the most beautiful and striking winter constellations. It contains a star-forming region and many interesting celestial objects. The most famous are probably the Horsehead Nebula and the Orion Nebula.

Nach ein paar trüben und nebligen Nächten gab es nun endlich wieder die Gelegenheit, mein neues Digitalteleskop „ZWO Seestar S50 Smart Teleskop“ näher kennenzulernen und bei hervorragender Sicht auszuprobieren.
Das Sternbild Orion ist eines der schönsten und auffälligsten Wintersternbilder. Es enthält ein Sternentstehungsgebiet und viele interessante Himmelsobjekte. Die bekanntesten sind wohl der Pferdekopfnebel und der Orionnebel.

La nébuleuse du Crabe (M1, NGC 1952) résulte de l'explosion d'une étoile massive en supernova historique, qui a eu lieu en 1054. L'évènement était tel qu'elle resta suffisamment lumineuse pour être visible en pleine journée pendant 23 jours.
L'astronome Charles Messier découvre la nébuleuse en 1758, à la recherche de la comète de Halley, ce qui le décide à rédiger son "Catalogue des nébuleuses et des amas d'étoiles", restant une référence aujourd'hui

Look just right the center of image to see this 6 km size asteroid move. Estimated magnitude 10.9 and somewhat brighter and faster moving than just two days ago. Nearly overhead at the end of this brief timelapse. 143 minutes lapsed time.

Have you ever seen the Southern Cross? This famous constellation is best seen from the southern hemisphere of the Earth. The photograph, taken from the cajón del Maipo, shows the four bright stars that form the Southern Cross just above the rock formation in the Maipo drawer. To the right of this constellation, also known as Crux, there is the orange star Gamma Crucis The band of stars, dust and gas that arises through the center of the image is part of the Milky Way. Just above the Southern Cross is the dark nebula of the Coal Sack.
The Southern Cross is such a famous constellation that it is represented in the national flag of Australia.

Alguna vez has visto la Cruz del Sur? Esta famosa constelación se ve mejor desde el hemisferio sur de la Tierra. La fotografía, tomada desde el cajón del Maipo, muestra las cuatro brillantes estrellas que forman la Cruz del Sur justo por encima de la formación rocosa en el cajón del Maipo, A la derecha de esta constelación, también conocida como Crux, existe la estrella anaranjada Gamma Crucis. La banda de estrellas, de polvo y de gas que surge por el centro de la imagen es parte de la Vía Láctea. Justos arriba de la Cruz del Sur está la oscura nebulosa del Saco de Carbón.

This is now 275 subs over 8 sessions totalling 17 hours, and is slowly getting there. Still needs more time, but I suspect it will have to wait until next year now. Used a different processing technique to my previous sad looking version, and it seems to have done the trick. Got Hubble's Variable thingy in there this time as well :)
I won't be sorry to see the back of this :)

Here is a roughly edited shot of the center of our galaxy the milky way shot at 50mm using a prime lens at F1.8 and 1600 ISO. i usually dont let my star images trail like this but i wanted to play with exposure a bit and grab more nebulosity inside the dark lanes of the milky way. This was shot in San Benito County, California about 50 miles away from Monterey,Ca light pollution wasnt so bad where i made this luckily. Please Enjoy!

In this image you see the summer triangle region of the milky way cropped just above the constellation scutum and the star Altair. the cygnus region of the milky way is striking in this image. You can begin to see the pink colors ot the North American Nebula near the star Deneb. this is a composite of 5 images shot at different lengths of exposure and settings blended together in post processing using a manual stacking process. The Great Orion Nebula, also known as M42, is one of the most famous nebulae in the sky.
Glowing clouds of gas and the young, hot stars of the star-forming region are near the center of this colorful deep-sky image that includes the smallest M43 nebula and the dusty, bluish reflection nebula NGC 1977 and company to the left.
Located on the edge of an otherwise invisible complex of giant molecular clouds, these captivating nebulae represent only a small fraction of the amount of interstellar material in this galactic neighborhood.

My first go at Prime Focus of M42 using the new scope. Fairly pleased with this being a single frame and so close to LHR too. Must pull my finger out with the whole stacking thing as I know It will improve my AP.

Partendo dall'originale monocromatico, ho lavorato con i livelli di Photoshop associando i colori dei vari gas di questo stupendo oggetto, cercando di essere il più fedele possibile.
Prossima sessione sarà riprende questo oggetto con il filtro OII per poi integrarlo con il monocromatico di questa foto fatto in H-alpha... cosi vedremo realmente i colori di questa nebulosa.

The Dumbbell Nebula is a beautiful planetary nebula in the constellation Vulpecula. Its relatively high surface brightness makes it visible in virtually all telescopes (even binoculars).
For this one I borrowed a *real* astro CCD camera from a friend (thanks John!). It sees the red light of the Hydrogen emissions much better than my Nikon (which has an IR blocking filter that also partially blocks the part of the spectrum that Hydrogen emits in). Compare to my shot from two years ago where the blue Oxygen emissions show up much more.

Taken with a TMB92L, Canon T3i DSLR, and Celestron CG-4 mount. Consists of 45 light and 41 dark frames, each a 35-second exposure at ISO 800, stacked in DeepSkyStacker and processed in Photoshop.
Sh2-114, also known as ‘The flying Dragon Nebula’ is a complex and unusual HII emission region in the constellation of Cygnus. Its complex, wispy structure is likely the result of winds from hot, massive stars interacting with the magnetic fields in the interstellar medium, but very little is known about it.
This image is a 2-panel mosaic, generated with observations in Ha and SII data and combined as HSS, with RGB stars.

Have been patiently waiting for this nebula to rise above my horizon. Still low in the murk and time-restricted with daylight approach so not much data to work with here, just a handful of subs taken through a h-alpha filter. Regardless it is still an impressive sight. IC405 the flaming star nebula in Auriga. ED80/350D EQ6 . 12nm Ha
My second attempt at shooting M42 on a rare night of clear sky in Singapore. Taken at Changi Beach - a place located at the eastern end of Singapore main island. Night sky there is definitely darker compared to where I first attempted M42 (which was in the central part of severe light polluted Singapore).
But the imaging session was short lived as the lens fogged up after 40 plus shots. What a waste! Guess I have to bring some heat packs along if I am going to this location next time.
Though the image is noisy, I am quite satisfied with the end results of the stacked image. The running man nebula is visible in the photo as well. Waiting for the next clear night to collect more subs to add on to this group of subs.

Finally a clear night! Took the opportunity to take 1.5 hours of data on M45 before the target I wanted to image came up.

only 4 subs from the dslr + h-alpha filter, stacked in DSS and the red channel separated into a grayscale image, have seen more detail in these four subs than 60+ subs in normal OSC so i'm pretty convinced by the ha-rgb approach even with a non-monochrome dslr its still - to me, - worth doing :)

Dista circa 37 milioni di anni luce e presenta bracci piuttosto compatti e ricchi di particolari, specialmente molte regioni di idrogeno ionizzato ben visibili perché di colore rosa acceso.
18 ore di pose guidate da 10 minuti a cui ho aggiunto quasi 15 ore con filtro dual band Antlia ALP-T da 5nm, telescopio newton 150/600 con correttore Tecnosky 0.95x, camera Tecnosky Vision 571C, montatura Ioptron GEM45, elaborazione Pixinsight.
Discovered in 1779 by Pierre Méchain, M63 is known as the "Sunflower Galaxy". It is one of the most beautiful spiral galaxies in the northern sky and is located in the constellation of Canes Venatici. It is about 37 million light years away and has rather compact arms rich in details, especially many regions of ionized hydrogen clearly visible because of their bright pink color.
18 hours of 10-minute guided exposures to which I added almost 15 hours with a 5nm Antlia ALP-T dual band filter, 150/600 newton telescope with Tecnosky 0.95x corrector, Tecnosky Vision 571C camera, Ioptron GEM45 mount, Pixinsight processing.
